Chapter Twenty-Six
Chapter Twenty-Six
I looked at myself in the mirror. My hazel coloured eyes stand out with the light skin colour make up I had put on. The black dress I was wearing same up to just above my knee and the shoes I was wearing had a slight heel to it making a little bit taller.
A knock sounds onto the door. I turn my head towards it, and couldn't help but let out a small smile. With one more glance at the mirror, I picked up my purse and walked to open the door. I opened it slowly, not wanting Leon to find out that I was really excited for this date.
I opened the door to come face to face with Leon, who was perfectly fitted suit. His hair had been combed back, giving him an edgy but sexy kind of look. We stared into each other's eyes for a few seconds.
"Hi," Leon whispered with a small smile on his face.
"Hi," I whispered back.
"You look beautiful." A blush rose on my cheeks and I let some of my hair cover the side of my face. Even though it was a small compliment, it meant a lot to me. As vain as it sounded I needed someone to tell that I was beautiful, not too boost my ego but that was always something my parents told me. I felt a small pang go through my chest but not as much as I did before. I didn't want to ruin this evening that could be the best start to my first year of university yet.
"Thank you. You look very handsome."
"Thank you."
"Ready to go?" Leon asked holding out his hand. I stared at it for a second, before accepting. His hand is warm and comforting, something I have not had for the past few days.
"Yes."
The atmosphere was warm and light. It seemed that I wasn't the only one that needed a break from all the madness that has suddenly shown up onto my life. As we walked to his car, we talked about everything we had done from the last time we had seen each other.
As we drove to wherever Leon was taking me, I turned my head to look at Leon. I didn't know what it was about him but I knew that I could trust. He had been there for since I first came to the university. Even though I don't know a lot about him, I feel like I know a lot about him. All the small gestures that Leon has done for me is now adding up to this moment, the moment where we had our first date.
I knew that I shouldn't think about what the future could hold because I knew that anything could happen from past experiences, but I knew that Leon and I would be close to each other, even if we are not dating each other we would be good friends.
I felt a bright light flash in my eyes and I quickly look away from the burn that it was giving my eye. I slowly looked up to see that we were getting off the main road to a much smaller and emptier road. Even though it was dark, I could see the figures of the trees and plants everywhere. As we passed some of the houses I noticed that they all were old and worn down from all the storms that had taken place.
The road was pitch black and occasionally the car would shake from the uneven road. I looked around but I could see nothing. Suddenly Leon steered off the road and onto the mud.
"Where are we going?" I looked at Leon questionably, confused about why we were driving into the woods.
"We are almost there," Leon said, not taking his eyes of the bump land that we were driving on.
After a few minutes of looking out the windows, I notice an old broken house just like the ones that we had passed. I felt slight fear creep onto me as I notice Leon get out. He opened the door for me and held my left hand. He rubbed his thumb against it soothingly as if he knew what I was feeling. Closing the door we walked up to the front door which had small holes everywhere.
He opened it and led me into the house. The fear inside of me grew even more; I sneaked a glance at Leon to see that his face was perfectly calm as if he knew where to go. The steps here are slightly old and might let out a small creek or two but it won't break.
I blinked my eyes, waiting for it adjust to the darkness and it did but that didn't help at all. There was furniture everywhere, and the smell of dust filled the air.
"Are you sure?" My voice echoed around the empty house.
"I promise," Leon said, looking directly into his eyes. We stared at him for a second before going down the steps. Leon was right they did make creaking sounds but that did not scare me. The darkness ahead of me did.
The steps were steep and long. I vaguely remembered that dust that was catching onto hands as I slide it down the railway. Finally, it ended and we were met with a door. I looked back to Leon to see what he was going to do and he put his hand to his lips, telling me to be quiet.
Abruptly the doors opened. Leon pushed my back softly, indicating for me to go inside. Soft music played as I walked inside the dimly lit room. There were tables and chairs spread out everywhere.
"Welcome! Table for two, am I right?" I jumped slightly from the person that suddenly appeared in front of me.
"Yes, it is." Leon wrapped his hand around my waist as he says this. The waiter led us through the restaurant which was quite full when you go more inside. He took us to a table in the corner; away from everybody else in the middle of the restaurant.
Leon pulled out my chair for me to sit on. As I sat down I noticed that everything was made of stone. The stone looked like it had been carved perfectly, and if I didn't know better than I would have mistaken it for wood.
"It is beautiful isn't it?" Leon asked.
"It is more than beautiful! What is this place?" Amazement leaked onto my voice. For the eighteen years, I have lived, I had never seen anything such a beautiful restaurant. Everything had been perfectly placed; it seemed that even if you moved the tables a little it would lose the warm feeling received while you were here.
"This is underground werewolf restaurant only. It is called the M kauana. It means the beautiful days, referring to the olden days where they made most of their things out of stone.
"How old is this restaurant?" I asked, intrigued about the history of this place.
"Hundred and twenty-one years."
Just like that our conversation went. Unlike what I assumed we didn't have any awkward moment where we both didn't know what to say. Our conversation was filled with laughter and talking. I not only learned a lot about this restraint but I learned about a lot about Leon himself.
I didn't know how long had passed since we came here, but I didn't seem to care since I was enjoying myself. All the doubts that had been troubling my mind never seemed to come into mind when we were talking and having the food.
"What would you like to have for dessert?" Leon asked, looking up from his menu to lock eyes with mine.
"I don't think I can have any more food. The main course was huge!" I exclaimed to which Leon chuckled. As this was a werewolf only restaurant the portions were quite large since werewolves eat more than humans.
"Let's order a dessert that we can share. What about this one?"
He pointed towards what he was talking about and I agreed to have that one. I felt a slight migraine in my head but ignored it, thinking that it might be about the long day I was having today. As the minutes past the migraine increases and soon I wasn't able to concentrate on what Leon was telling me.
"Ashley, are you feeling okay? You look paler than usual," Leon asked with concern. I was about to nod my head yes when I heard the voice that I thought wouldn't hear for a long time. The dark voice
"Ashley the angel, how have you been?" I clench my jaw in irritation and anger.
"Ashley, tell me what is going on? Is he here?" I felt my body shake and I blinked my eyes rapidly, trying to make them focus on the person in front of me.
"He is here," my voice was barely over a whisper, I felt a thrill of fear go through my body at the weak sound of my voice.
"Ashley I want you to look at me straight in the eyes. Yes, right there. Now take a deep breath in and out. You need to be calm down." I tried to do what Leon said but for some reason, I couldn't.
"I have to say it has been a long time since I have visited you. Have you missed me?" I wanted to answer him back, but I knew that was exactly what the dark voice wanted from me.
"As much as I love to watch you suffer. I am only here to give you a warning. In exactly thirty days I will kill you and the boy next to you."
I froze when I heard that sentence. I was speechless, not only due to the threat but because I knew that the dark voice always told the truth.
