Chapter Seventeen

"How do you do it?"

"Do what?" I asked turning my head around to look over at Leon who was staring straight ahead. Both of us were walking beside each other in the empty hallway that is normally filled with students.

"How do you smile through what you are going through?"

"I don't, I mean what happened in the elevator is an example." I said looking down the deserted hallway.

"No, like now. How do you walk around talking about this without bursting into tears?" Leon asked, turning to look over at me. Something inside me was surprised at Leon interest in me. Before in the elevator Leon stopped the elevator and comforted me till I was no longer happy. As I soaked his shirt his shirt with my tears, he whispered sweet things into my ear.

"I think the outburst earlier helped me to let out all of my emotions. I really needed that, especially after yesterday. Why do you sound so surprised?" I asked turning to look back at Leon who was staring at me with an unrecognizable emotion.

"It is just that after everything you had been through yesterday, I thought you would like sometime alone. I know many people like to let out their emotions by doing something they like doing."

"I know that many people like to be around others because then they don't get to think so much about the dead person. Sometimes thinking too much can bring harsh thoughts enters your mind, or sometimes it creates a problem that is not important," I said looking down at my feet that are in walking in a slow rhythm.

"You forgot something," Leon said clapping his hands loudly. I stared at Leon who seemed suddenly excited. I raised my eyebrow towards him, curious to what he was talking about.

"What did I forget?" I asked brushing my long, brunette hair behind my ears.

"Sometimes when people over think they get all sad because of all the thoughts that have come into their brain."

"How do you know all this?" I asked looking at Leon with a confused expression. Leon opened his mouth to answer but was cut off by his phone. Leon took his phone out, and the moment he saw the caller id his eyes widened slightly.

"Ashley, I am sorry to say this but I have to take this urgent call and it might take a while till I finish the call. I hope you can forgive me."

"Sure go ahead," I said, smiling slightly to him, trying not to show my disappointment. Leon smiled back and walked away to receive the call.

 I stared at his back, as Leon hurried down the hall I had gone through to find Julie. My eyes widen in shock as I realised where Leon was going, different thoughts entered my mind as I wondered if I should go after him and tell him not to go there, or to just let him find out by himself. Maybe he won't be caught. I decided that I should take the risk of him not getting caught because if I go after him I too will get in trouble for the second time in a row. I turned around and walked towards my dorm that was at the opposite end of the university.

As I walked I thought of my time with Leon. Even though I hadn't known Leon for long, I could already tell he was going to be good roommate. I thought back to the tour that he had shown me, I remembered the times when he made me laugh, I remembered the times he made me smile and I remembered the times where I felt like there was no worry in the world, but of course that is a huge myth that people believe in.

"What are you doing in a deserted hallway alone?" I heard someone ask from behind me. I snap my head towards the voice. I saw Jake leaning against the wall, with his arms folded. He pushed himself off from the wall.

"I should be asking you the same thing," I said, staring at him.

"I am guessing you are going to your dorm. Am I right?" he asked me, coming forward so that he was standing next to me. I felt a slight shiver run threw my body. I didn't know if it was because I was feeling cold or because of Jake.

"I am. What about you? Where are you going?" I asked.

"Same as you, I am on my way to my dorm," Jake said walking towards the dorms, "Are you coming?"

"Yes!" I said, my voice going much higher than I wanted for it to go. I walked to where Jake was. Goosebumps appeared on my arms as I walked beside him. My body alert as if something bad was going to happen.

"So what were you doing all alone in the hallway?" Jake asked, turning his head to look at me.

"I was just coming back from the tour Leon was giving me."

"What tour?"

"Leon was just showing me around the university, since this is my first year here."

"Were you both alone?" I felt a sudden anger well up in me. Something inside me felt like he trying to say something to me.

"Why do want to know?" I asked snapping my head towards Jake who looked slightly surprised with my sudden anger.

"I was just asking. I am sorry that I offended you, I had no intention to," Jake said, politely.

"Which floor is your dorm on?" I asked walking into the elevator.

"The one below yours," Jake said behind me, I turned around to see Jake leaning against the wall of the elevator.  His legs were crossed for balance. I pressed the button my Jake's and I floor and waited for the doors to close so that I could ask him all of the questions that were waiting to be answered.

"Where is everyone?" I asked crossing my arms over chest and staring at Jake.

"In their dorms," Jake said standing up straight and also crossing his arms over his chest.

"Everybody is in their dorms?" I asked.

"Yes."

"Why weren't you in your dorm?"

"I should be asking you the same thing," Jake replied back.

"You know my reason. What was your reason?" I asked tilting my head to the side. I waited for his answer, very curious to why he was acting so mysterious. Before he could answer the elevator doors opened, Jake stood up and walked to the entrance of the elevator. He stopped and turned around to look at me.

"Be careful Ashley, you never know who the bad is until it is too late." Without waiting for my answer Jake left. I watched with my mouth open the elevator doors close. My heart beats rapidly against my chest. Fear crawls into my body that is now shaking. I open my mouth further open and let an ear splitting scream.
