Chapter Four
Chapter Four
"And that is the history of Oakmund University," the headmaster finally concluded, "You all have 1 hour to socialize and eat lunch before we begin our next orientation." Many of us groaned at the sound of another orientation since the first one had lasted for more than two hours.
All the students stood up and rushed to get in the queue for lunch. As I got up I felt a yawn pass my lips. I never got enough sleep because yesterday night when my mom phoned me she scolded me for not remembering to phone her then she asked me questions. A lot of questions.
When I finally hung up on her it was 10:30 pm and I had to wake up at 6:00 am.
"Someone's sleepy," a familiar voice said behind me, making me jump in fright.
"What the hell Jared? You almost scared me to death!"
"Oh you poor little thing," he said putting a sad face on. I couldn't help but let out a small smile. This is something that I liked about Jared. Jared was the type of person to fool around and make you let out a smile even after a long day.
"Where were you in the orientation?" I asked him as he puts his arm over my shoulder.
"Behind you."
"Seriously!"
"Nope," he said.
"So how's your roomie?" I asked changing the subject.
"Roomie?"
"Ya, you know a slang word for a roommate. Duh," I said.
"Well, my roomie is a complete clean freak." I laughed at the way Jared said, roomie. It was almost like he was afraid to say the words.
"What do you mean?" I asked completely confused with what he said.
"Well he likes everything to be in order and- do you smell that?" He asked looking around.
"Smell what?" I asked smelling the air just to smell nothing.
"It smells like c-" he started to say but got cut off when by a girl jumping on top of Jared and wrapping her arms around his neck and her legs around his torso. Then she starts to kiss all over his face.
"I missed you," he whispered to her.
"I missed you too," she said back and they start to make out in the middle of the lunchroom. Everybody around us didn't seem bothered by it at all.
What is wrong with these people?
Well if nobody is going to break them I'm going to.
"Get a room," I said to them thinking that will make them stop.
"Gladly," said Jared and carries the girl with him, never breaking the kiss and starts to walk to his dorm.
Just when I thought they were actually getting a room the girl turned around and said something in Jared's ear making him groan in annoyance. Jared put her down and she took his arm and pulled him back to where I was standing.
"Sorry about that. I'm Carrie" she said snuggling into Jared's chest.
"I'm Ashley and I'm hungry," I said with a smile tugging on my lips.
"Only Ashley would say like that when meeting someone," Jared said chucking.
"It's like you read my mind. Come on let us go" Carrie said.
"So Jared is she the family friend you were talking about yesterday?"
"Yes, but there is lots more. Wait and see," He said.
We walk inside the cafe talking casually when I look to where the food was served. I see that there is no queue at all!
"How did they feed two hundred students in fifteen minutes?" I asked shocked.
Both Jared and Carrie looked at each other with a bit of panic in their eyes but that faded when they saw me looking at them.
"They-" both of them said at the same time and stare at each other battling on who to say first.
"You say," Carrie said.
"They have lots of chefs and there is not a lot of pushing in the queue," Jared said way too quickly, to which Carrie gave him a pointed look.
"Ok," I say not believing everything Jared had said.
We all walked to the chefs, take our plates and fill them with food. I looked down at the plates and they were abnormally very large.
I wonder why?
"Jared you sure do eat a lot," I said looking at his filled plate compared to mine which filled a quarter of the plate.
"Maybe you just eat too little," he said leading us outside because all the tables inside were filled.
"Hey Jared over here," someone shouted.
I looked over to see a big table consisting of guys that look like they came out of your dreams.
No kidding!
As we got closer I noticed that many of them seemed to have girlfriends. I also noticed the three guys from last night.
Leon, Jake, and Keith.
"Hey, Jared and Carrie," everybody said to them. Many slapped Jared on the back really hard while others hugged Carrie.
"You weren't kidding when you said there were lots more," I said to no one in particular.
"This is only a quarter of them," Carrie said making my eyes grow wider in shock.
"Hey everyone this is my friend, Ashley," Jared said to everybody. I got a chorus of 'hi's and heys" from everybody. When I looked around for a seat I saw that there is only one spot remaining. Sadly it was across from Leon and not beside him.
Why am I so sad that I am not sitting next to Leon?
Because you have a crush on him!
Ignoring my overactive thoughts I took my plate of food and sat down.
"Hi, my names Julie," a girl said on the right side of me.
"Hey mine is-"
"Ashley I know. Jared remember," she added when she sees my confused look. "So, where are you from?" she asked putting fries into her mouth.
"Peace league," I said to her.
"Cool I have friends living there," she said.
"Really maybe I know them," I said to her feeling uncomfortable suddenly because I felt like somebody was staring at me so I looked at the direction I felt the stare only to see that nobody was staring. I went back to talking to Julie then again I felt someone staring at me.
I turned my head a little bit sideways so that I could see who was staring at me but they couldn't see me staring back at them. I looked to see Leon staring at me. Before I even know what I am doing I turned my head fully and stare at him.
"Stop staring at me," I said.
"I would stop staring at you but you are just so damn beautiful," he said making a blush creep its way onto my face. Leon must have seen it too because the corner of his lips pulled up causing me to get angry at myself for blushing.
"Aww, you are so sweet. Just because you can't get a girl you stare at your roommate I completely get it," I said back.
"What? I could have girls at my feet but I am just not that type of guy," he said truthfully making something in me happy that he was not a player.
Before I could say anything back he turned to talk to his friend beside him. I stared at him to make sure he wasn't going to be a creep and start staring at me again. It wasn't like you minded him staring at you.
After a while when I am sure he was not going to stare back at me I turn my head back to Julie who had a thoughtful expression on her face.
"What are you thinking so hard about?" I said to her nudging my arm against hers.
"Nothing," she said making me give her the look.
"Fine I don't know what to wear for the party," She said with a sad expression.
"I have got nothing better to do so I'll help you," I said making her expression happy again.
