"Brother wake up" I growl as I do every morning. I walk past his room then past my parents. Their door is open. They're already up. I walk down the stairs and into the kitchen. Mum sits at the table reading one of our books :  how we become. How we become is a book that is not available for normal humans,only us. Apparently my great grandmother wrote it. Dad isn't in the kitchen so I walk to the lounge room. He's not there . I decide to take a shower but as I push the door open someone is already in here and it's not dad.

I gaze at the object. It wears a blue hoodie and black pants. "W....who are you?" I say as a take a sniff. Same sent........... "Dad,mum!" I yell as I take a step backwards. I can feel my instincts starting to kick in. I'm obviously going to try to defend our territory. Mum comes up the hallway.  "Your fathers hunting,what is -" mum says, cutting herself off.

She spots this stranger. It backs up and jumps out the open window. I race after it and leap out the window,seeing it race towards the trees. I land on the grass on both feat but I use my left hand to steady myself. I feel my bones changing. Mum and my brother jump out after me, my brother must of been watching. I race after this person and as I do I completely change into wolf form.

My brother runs at wolf speed,catching up to me. (He, being only nine, can only change on a full moon.) my mum changes as well.we are now into the bush and I realise,dad hunts around this area. I see that we are gaining on this person. I increase my speed. Different animal scents are all around me now but I take no notice.

We finally come to a dead end,a big cliff towers above us. Mum darts left and my brother right as the person comes to a stop. I slow my speed a little and creep closer. Mum  - still wolf form- reveals herself and the person tries to run but my brother  cuts him off. I walk towards it. Growling.

I'm now face to face. His hood flies off when a sudden burst of wind blows. It reveals its face. a boy. His dark brown hair sticking to his forehead in sweat,I see his hands are all wet and his dark brown eyes narrow at me. I growl a warning and he looks away.

To confront him I need to change so I do. I will myself to change back and my bones click back into human form. I walk closer to him. Just when I'm about to talk mum does. "Who do you think you are" she is in human form. "I am me,that's who I am" he answers. "Ok then let's try,WHAT THE HELL WAS YOU DOING IN OUR HOUSE" she rises her voice. My dad suddenly jumps out of a bush. "YOU ......WAS ...IN MY ...HOUSE!" He yells. I knew he was around!. The boy shakes a bit.

He tries to escape but we close in further. "I......I...." The boy  starts. "Ok then let's try this from a different angle " dad says. We all nod and spring forward,knocking him to the ground. Mum and  My brother pin him to the ground and I put my foot on his throat. They let his limbs go and he tries to fight me off . "SPEAK" we say. I press a little harder. "Ok...ok...fine.....I...was...." he looks strait at me and I push harder.

"Name" dad says. "No" he answers stubbornly. I narrow my eyes at him,he catches my glare. "My ...my name is jack" I soften my hold briefly because I'm thinking 'I used to know a jack' he uses this moment as an advantage and grabs my leg,swings it aside jumps up and runs away. I go to run after him but dad stops me. " no,Maddie don't,We will come back tomorrow morning,the ground will hold his scent,in the meantime let's go home and we can call the police." He says as he picks up a average sized kangaroo he must of caught and we start to walk.

"Police!" I say worried. "As long as we take away any signs of wolf heart stuff and don't show any signs when speaking." Dad says. I hesitate. We start towards home.

"Dad,I think calling the police is a dumb idea,no offence but...well I believe... I believe that maybe our uncle Paul and....." I stop for a second. "AUNTIE JADE!" Max and I both say excitingly (him more then me).  "Well...they could help" I add. Dad stops and thinks for a second. "Matt.....the police is a little risky,they have a point" mum says quietly. "Yes but...remember what happened last time Sara?" Dad says.

"What happened last time?" Max asks. "Nothing" Dad answers. "Ok...ok ok fine I'll see if they are free,if so we will go out tomorrow morning " dad says as we reach our house and step inside. "Ok,I'll cook this beast ready for lunch for us,go take a shower Maddie " dad orders. I nod and walk up the stairs to my room.

I grab fresh clothes and head to the bathroom,I lock the door and pull the blind down. I have my shower.

After the shower I head out and see dad on the phone. "Yeah,tomorrow morning.......sent will be held.............yeah......ok...I know.......great........... No.....no....they're not ready......ok....see you then....bye" dad says. It's a bit awkward hearing only one half of a conversation.

"All set?" I ask as I pull my jacket on. "Yup....where you going?" Dad asks. "I'm going Into town, remember?" I say. "No....?" He says.

"Max...soccer....ring any bells?" I say. Dad nods. "MAX, WE'LL BE LATE,COME ON" I yell. Max comes down dressed for soccer and the soccer ball in his hand.  "We not taking the car?" He asks. "Nope,we are going to run.....all the way" I say. He smiles and we head outside.

we take off at full wolf speed,laughing and dodging obstacles as we race towards the small town we live 8 kms away from.
