~Chapter Five~

The Clubhouse

The rest of the day went by pretty quick which I was thankful for because it meant no snooty questions from classmates about the cafeteria conundrum. I just went about my day as usual pretending nothing happened.

When the bus pulled up to my house, I was in no mood to tell mom about the incident. I got off with Cedar and Sage who thankfully didn't know anything about the spaghetti. As they walked into the house, I decided to go to our clubhouse in the woods since I didn't have any homework. I slung of my backpack next to the garage and tool off running.

Our clubhouse wasn't very close to the house, but that was never a problem. I willed myself into a wolf, and felt that familiar breeze whoosh around me. My senses sharpened and I stood there as a wolf, ready to run.

As I darted through the trees, everything I was worrying about seemed to melt away. It was only me and nature, in our own world.

Before I knew it, the old wooden clubhouse we call the den came into sight. I looked around taking mental notes on what needed to be fixed:

1. Hole in side of wall

2. Reattach door

3. Leaves scattered inside

4. Shake out blanket (we spread out an old blanket as a sort of 'carpet')

I decided to leave the list at that so it wasn't too overwhelming. Since the house was so far away, I couldn't get tools to use, so I was restricted to natural elements.

As I morphed back into my human form, I scanned around for something to patch the basketball-sized hole in the wall. How did that even get there?

I bent down to pick up a branch that probably fell off during the last windstorm we had. I heard a bush rustle behind me, and as I turned to see what it was, someone mauled me from behind.
