Chapter 57 || Truth
Isaac POV*
During the walk home, she was pretty silent, I expected her to be talking my ears off, but she stayed silent.
We got to the shop, my dad was nowhere in sight, so we went straight to the back. Where I found him behind his desk.
"Oh, you're home." He smiled as he looked up. "Hi Mr, Bowman." Ava greeted as she appeared from behind the door. He smiled at her too.
He leaned back in his chair. "I- uh, I just came back to get some clean clothes..." I said awkwardly. The look on his face was strange. I could see he was happy I was back, but he seemed preoccupied with something else.
He nodded and watched as I made my way to the stairs and headed up, back in my room I dropped onto my bed, letting out a long sigh, your own bed is always more comfortable.
"So..." Ava started, sitting down next to me. I looked over at her. "Tell me everything." She smirked, I let out a groan as I sat up, "fine, but first-" I got up, "I'm gonna take a shower." I smiled. I hoped I appeared calm because inside I was screaming. I don't want to tell her anything if I'm honest.
"Right." She smirked again. I ignored it and went out to the bathroom. I turned on the shower, hoping there would still be some warm water left. Lucky for me there was. I undressed and stepped in.
It felt better than I was expecting, I let out a sigh of relief as the water ran down my back. I stayed like that for a few minutes. Just letting the water warm up my body. I grabbed the soap bar and started to clean off the dirt.
As I cleaned my arm and chest, what happened yesterday was getting near impossible to ignore. I had more marks than I thought I'd have. I couldn't help but smile to myself. It happened... it wasn't a dream this time.
I finished cleaning up and got out, I had brought some clean clothes, changed into them, and headed back to my room, mentally preparing myself about what to tell Ava.
I wanted to tell her everything, but I don't think she should know everything. Knowing her she'll keep asking until I say something...
I stopped in front of the door, my hand hovering over the doorknob. I took a final breath and stepped inside.
Ava was sitting on my bed, back towards me. "Right, so what did you want to ask about," I said, already feeling embarrassed. I slowly walked up to her, not getting an answer.
"Ava?" I asked as I stopped at the end of the bed. I looked over and noticed she was holding something. She was staring at it, not saying a word.
"What- what happened?" She asked, not looking up. I stood there confused, "what do you mean?" I asked.
She turned around to face me, and that was when I realized what she was holding. They were my clothes. The one's from the night we broke Marc out. The ones I had because they were covered in blood. She must've found them under my bed.
"Isaac, what is this?" She asked again, a concerned look on her face. "Why do you have this, who are these?" She kept asking, I didn't even get a second to answer. I let out a sigh as I sat down next to her.
"Mine.." I said quietly. "Wh- yours- what in the world happened to them?" She said, a little louder. "Well, remember how I told you we helped the werewolf escape...?" I looked up. "This is for that night?"
I nodded. "Turns out, it was a lot harder than I thought it would be." I let out a laugh, but she didn't seem to find it funny. "Then whos- who's blood is this." She asked carefully, scared of the answer. I smiled at her. "Mine"
Her expression turned serious as she looked at the clothes again. "Tell me, everything." She demanded I let out a sigh, and I did. I told her.
Everything about what happened that night, about the hunters chasing through the forest, and about me getting shot. I also told her about the rat and the blood-drinking. And after thinking about it, I decided to tell her about the powers as well.
I felt good to tell someone else, I know I told everyone at the church, but this was different. I had known Ava for, well my whole life. I felt like I could trust her.
It stayed silent for a while after I finished my story. Ava had put my back clothes under my bed and had listened intently.
"You should tell your dad." She said eventually. "What! No, hell kill me if he found out!" I yelled back. "There is no way I can tell anyone."
"I don't mean about the werewolf, about the side effects..." she said, a little calmer. I looked away. "You gave them for a reason, and he's the only one who can help..." she continued. "Only one?" I repeated. "Do you know anyone else who knows about vampires?" She asked, crossing her arms.
I shook my head. "I guess you're right..." I sighed. "But how would I even begin that conversation," I admitted. "Don't worry," she said as she put her hand on my shoulder. "I'll help you with that." She winked. I forced a smile and looked up again. "Now, you had something to tell me." She smirked as she made herself comfortable. Oh right...
I gave up and just decided to tell her... well, the things I was comfortable with, I wish I didn't. After I told her what happened she couldn't stop asking questions, I awkwardly answered some of them but avoided others by eventually just getting up and walking away when they became too much.
"Hey! Wait, I'm not done yet!" She yelled after me as I headed downstairs. "Yes, you are," I yelled back. I ran for the living room, but Ava had managed to catch up to me, grabbing me by arm. "I have more questions." She laughed. I pulled my arm away and was about to argue back when my dad interrupted.
"Ah, there you are." He started as he walked up to me. "Hi, dad" I smiled, walking up to him as well. "Good to see you still know where you live." He joked. "Yeah... listen, I'm sorry I'm away so much..." I apologized. "It's okay, as long as you're not doing anything dangerous." He joked as he walked to the front of the store. "Heh, yeah, I'm not." I lied, following him.
He walked behind the corner, bending down and grabbing something from underneath the counter. "Well since you're here now," he got up and handed me a piece of paper, making his way to the back "You can catch up on some chores." He smiled. I looked down at the list surprised. "Wait- dad, really?" I asked as I turned to him. "You can't be serious..."
"I am, now, if you need me ill be in the back." He smirked before leaving, leaving Ava and me standing in the shop.
