Ch 8

So, nothing of interest happened in the next week, I finally finished the books and we practiced sparring. Chat refused to give up the location of the butterfly miraculous which I had already figured. I told Kagami my plan, the one I came up with before would be our plan B. She agreed to look around and try and find it for me. She wouldn’t be able to get it to me until that night but she said that she’d find a way to let me know when she gets it.

Today, a package from her came for me. It had no return address or name. Chat was weary of it but I had work and gained his trust in the week I’ve been awake.

The box was small, it didn’t look like a miraculous box, but it was around the same size.

My fingers wesled their way under the tape sealing it shut and forced it open.

Inside, there was a jewelry box. I frowned slightly, it shouldn’t be the miraculous, it’d be dangerous here and I was expecting it next week. I lifted the lid and bit back a gasp.

It was a beautiful pair of ruby earrings. If I were to best describe them, they looked like the ladybug miraculous when it’s activated minus the spots.

“Chat?” I called up the stairs. “I need a bit of fresh air, I’m heading out, I won’t be goon too long.” I didn’t wait for a response as I escaped out the front doors.

Tucking the empty box under my arm I fixed the earrings into my ears. The gate opened for me and I tossed the package in the dumpster to hide it a bit.

I walked down by pont des arts, catching sight of kagami on the other side. I tucked a lock of hair behind my ear to subtly show that I got her message. She nodded to the bridge and we met in the middle.

She leaned on the railing watching me for a moment before speaking. “Are you sure you want to go through with it?”

I propped my elbows on the same railing, gazing down at the water below. “Yeah, I’m sure.” I fiddled with a strand of hair, thinking. “Hey, where was it?”

She was silent for a long moment, I started to wonder if she heard me. I opened my mouth to ask again but was cut off.

“It was on him. Hawkmoth I mean. Marinette, it’s kind of stone. It might work, but I don’t know what might happen. I asked Tikki and she’s not sure either, that’s why I want to know that you’re certain of this plan.” I felt my heart ache slightly at the mention of Tikki, I really missed her.

I took a deep breath, I don’t have the luxury to be indecisive any more, I need to do this regardless of the consequence it may possess. Right now, it can’t be about what I want, it’s about what the people need. “Yes, I am.”

Kagami rested a hand on my shoulder, “I believe in you Marinette, and I trust your judgment, don’t die and make me regret my trust.”

“Thank you, we can do this.” I squeezed her hand. “I just really want my Chat back.” my voice got caught in my throat for a split second and I blinked away the hot tears.
“Are you okay?”

I nodded, bushing off her concern. “I’ll be fine.” I was quiet for 5 beats. 5 increasingly awkward beats. “So next week is the full moon.” She nodded silently. “What are you going to do after?”

She thought about my question for a long moment. “I don’t know, I guess I didn’t think about that. Is that weird?” I shook my head, this entire situation was weird. “What about you?”

“Honestly? I don’t know either, everything is just… chaos. I think that for once in my life, the present is too distracting for me to even see the light at the end of the tunnel.”

“Then I guess we better start collecting firewood. We’ll make our own light. We can’t expect a light at the end if we don’t start walking with our own, self made light so we don’t get lost on the way.”

I snorted a bit in agreement. “How is it that suddenly everyone I talk to is full of inspirational quotes? I think I could start filling a book with them.”

“I guess with this long of an akuma, we all become a bit poetic.” she smirked.

We stayed like that for a moment more before she offered to walk me back home.

My eyes blinked open under the water, the water embraced me and my arms floated above me with the bubbles flying up around me. I opened my mouth in surprise and watched my breath literally escape me. Water started flooding my mouth and if I didn’t start making my way to the surface soon, my lungs would be invaded as well. I could see the round moon and shining stars taunting me from above, distorted by the water.

What’s taking him so long? Kagami was right, this was stupid plan. I couldn’t stop thinking back to last week when I met Kagami for the last time till now in this spot and we talked about what we’d do after today. And just like that day, I had no clue and I’m afraid I never will.

------------
Hey! I realise that I titled chapter 7 last week as chapter 6 so I'm sorry about any confusion but I fixed it so yay! Also, I really hope you enjoyed this chapter because soon we're going to defeat the akuma! In like, two chapters! To answer any questions regarding that, no, it won't be the end, theres still more to the story, and no its not really two, more like one but it happens on chapter 10, sorry about the spoiler. In other news, im warning you ahead of time that the next chapter isn't really a chapter, its more of an intermission. For anyone interested, I'm going to post the entire fairytale that Marinette was reading. Its one i really enjoy and I hope that you all enjoy it too! Thats all I have for today, have a great week and I'll see you then!
