Ch 10

Today was the day of the full moon. I had convinced Chat to let me roam the streets in my wolf form and I must admit that strolling through the city as a wolf is much more fun than as a human.

I bound through the streets just enjoying my wolf form for once. The air was a bit crisp but my thick fur kept me warm as I sprinted through the streets. I'd be lying if I didn’t also maybe have my long dog tongue out, giveing a toothy grin to the sky.

I started to slow my pace once I noticed how low the sun had gotten in the sky. I stared up, looking for any sign of Kagami but no dice. Probably a good thing as well, I had noticed chat had been following me for a bit, he thought he was being subtle but with my heightened senses, I heard every move he made.

As the sky grew darker, I started to make my way to the bridge, it should be around 11ish now so I had about an hour to mentaly prepare.

The full moon hung in the sky, big and beautiful. I bathed in it’s moonlight, drunk on the stars glittering above me, a comforting sight to behold.

Midnight drew near and I felt the transformation happen. I leaned against the cool railing to steady myself when a small purple brooch was dropped in front of me from above. I caught sight of kagami dressed in red soaring above the city on the way to lure Chat to our trap.

I felt sore afterwards, my bones aching from the shift but I still snached that brooch and fixed it on my shirt.

A small violet butterfly creature exited and greeted me. I said the transformation words and was encompassed but a blinding lavender light. My outfit was nothing like my ladybug costume, instead I was wearing a fitted suit. If I were to best describe it, it was a cross somewhere between the original Hawkmoths suit, Stormy Weather’s, and Lady WIFI’s. I looked down at the staff I held in disappointment, I know it wouldn’t have been a yoyo but I’ve only just started to learn fencing and if I were to use this against Chat, what if I made a big mistake and ended up hurting him instead?

Fear and worry plagued my mind, disrupted when I saw a bright light flying at me. I bounded out of the way I looked to where the attack came from. On the rooftops I saw Kagaim battling with Chat, moving towards me. I held a ready position as they landed on the bridge. Chat’s eyes widened at me, I don’t think he recognised me, but was more surprised at the miraculous.

“You.” He snarled, his lip curling, baring his teeth. I said nothing and readyed my staff and he did the same, making sure to keep Ladybug in his sights as well.

He rushed up to me, going for first strike but I dodged, remembering his lessons.

I dove forward, extending the staff but he intercepted it, our weapons clanging together. Kagami caught on to what I was doing quickly and started throwing out fencing moves I should counter or attack with. The one problem with that is Chat then knew what I was going to do. I appreciated the help but I feel like she was just making it easier for him.

His baton swng at my head and I just barley ducked in time, trowing up my own staff to block the hit. We struggled there for a moment, my arms quickly turning to jelly. He backed off giving me little time to stabilize before he attacked again.

It wasn’t long after before I was backed into a corner, my staff thrown far from me, my wrist throbbing from when he hit it forcinging me to let go of the staff. He leapt forward, his claws outstretched and as I leaned back I tumbled over the edge. He had just ripped off my brooch as I started to fall. We made eye contact for a split second as I detransformed and his face was just utter horror at what he had done.

Kagami took that chance to take his bell as I was welcome but the water below.

My eyes blinked open under the water, the water embraced me and my arms floated above me with the bubbles flying up around me. I opened my mouth in surprise and watched my breath literally escape me. Water started flooding my mouth and if I didn’t start making my way to the surface soon, my lungs would be invaded as well. I could see the round moon and shining stars taunting me from above, distorted by the water.

What’s taking him so long? Kagami was right, this was stupid plan. I couldn’t stop thinking back to last week when I met Kagami for the last time till now in this spot and we talked about what we’d do after today. And just like that day, I had no clue and I’m afraid I never will.

I saw a dark figure dive in after me, I had trouble make out who it was as they scooped me up in their arms and started to kick towards the surface.

As soon as I felt the crisp night breeze on my face I coughed and sputtered, getting the water out.

“Oh thank goodness you’re okay.” Chat squeezed me tight in his arms before pulling us up onto the sidewalk. I was so wrapped up in the fact that he was okay that I hardly noticed the clusters of ladybugs circling over head, fixing everything in their path.

“Chat?” I asked, pulling away to see his face, his green eyes full of terror. Wait, green eyes… “Chat!” I cried, muffling my sobs in his shoulder. “It’s you, you’re back.”

“I- Marinette, what happened?” It was his turn to pull back. That’s right, Akumas forget after they are saved.

I drew a deep breath. “It’s a long story, should we head back home to tell it?”

“Home?” he furrowed his brow.

“Or we could head back to my place if you’d feel more comfortable.”

“Right, I think I remember you finding out my identity, yeah, if it’s okay, could we head to your place? I don’t think I’m ready to face my father yet.” I froze for a second before nodding. “Are you alright?”

“Yeah, let’s just go, there’s a lot I need to catch you up on.”

We made it back to my house and I didn’t think I was ready to confront my parents yet so we went up to my balcony, down below, we could see a lot of confused people waking up from their time as a statue and looking around joyfully confused.

I opened my trap door and we sat on my bed, not talking for a few minutes.

“So, what happened? Last I remembered was you being loaded into the back of an ambulance.”

I hummed thoughtfully. “Well, I was in a two week coma after that so I don’t know much, but I do know about the last two weeks.”

“Wait! You were in a coma? And I was an Akuma for a month?” he gripped my shoulders, panicking.

“It’s all fine, you just turned people to stone…” I trailed off suddenly all too aware of how that sounded. “I worked with Ladybug to try and deevilise you. But before that Chaton, I feel like I should tell you about your dad…”

“What about him?” He leaned forward, curiose.

“Well as an Akuma, you arrested him.” I took a deep breath, avoiding looking and his concerned and confused face. “For being Hawkmoth.” I said the last part hurriedly.

“What?” He muttered, his eyes wide, not wanting to believe it. “No, no he can’t be!” tears started to form in the corner of his eyes.

“I know it’s a lot to take in, everything has been really weird this past month. I understand if you need time.” I barely finished that last sentence when he wrapped me up in a hug.

I said nothing, only squeezing him tighter. I felt him shutter with silent sobs and we stayed like that for a long moment, neither of us pulling away, just staying there, wrapped in our warm embrace.
