Igneous - 21

She awoke instantly to unforgiving sunlight shining through the window, and nearly went blind.
She'd been sleeping in massive caves her whole life; whenever she had napped with TruthSeeker and WaveDrift, they'd always slept in caves.

She had never-never- experienced this before. And she hated it.

Her eyes were screaming at her to shut them again: they weren't ready for this environment quite yet. She eventually managed to get out of the surprisingly comfortable hammock and wake up Clicker and Hive. WaveDrift and Truth' were already awake, sitting outside the shacks or whatever and completely ignoring or unwilling to process the fact that they were being suspended 40 feet above the ground with little to no railings to catch you.

Big pat on the back from her to the RainWings who built this.

They all went deep into a discussion about where to next, which she quickly zoomed out of until they had come to a conclusion.

Clicker and Hive had, as already requested, would begin a new life here. Except in the rainforest, maybe in the border.
Truth, Igneous and Wave' would head.... Someplace else to find a dragon who would know what to do.

Igneous eventually sighed and flew off, needing to gather her thoughts about leaving this place just yet. It was gorgeous here, though she was unfond of the heights, the plants and wildlife was busling like nothing she had ever seen.

After barely minutes of flying she settled on a pretty evergreen tree: quite odd to find one in the Rainforest, she had wondered how long it had been living here.

She closed her eyes to hear the birds twittering and frogs croaking.

And a loud shout right next to her ear.
Igneous screeched and tried to punch the attacker, only to lose her balance and topple off of the tree, landing on her back.

A small face-a very small face- of a RainWing popped into view, looking down at her. She wasn't a dragonet, which was odd with her small structure and size.

"Hello, dragon thingy. I'm Ec- sorry, Aurora. What brings you here to my tree? Did Pineapple snitch get ur hiding spot to you?"

Igneous waved shyly, getting to her feet and tried to wipe the obvious dirt marks off of her legs.

"I'm Igneous.... Um. Sorry that I can't get to... know you. But I'm leaving soon, soooo..."

Aurora looks depressed by this statement— almost desperate for her to stay.

"DON'T LEAVE! I mean, if your going to leave even thought your the only actually interesting dragon other than Pineapple, can I at least tell you about myself? I need to tell someone or I'll go mad, but I'm not ready to tell Pineapple just yet..."

Igneous nodded, hesitantly at first, and flew up to Aurora.
She had never had a mysterious dragon tell her her whole life story before, and it was massively surprising how much this dragon has gone through.
Through trial, through tears.
Perhaps... perhaps all dragons had their own story to tell like this, but just never had gotten the chance to make themselves heard before.

She smiled at the new dragon, and in just a half an hour she understood this dragon.

Igneous wondered if all of those dragons back home -- all those poor, poor StoneWing's, dying in a war -- had similar, deep perspectives on life and it's gruesome ways.

Maybe if they did stop this war, maybe their children could finally not be tied to the fate of death all the time, and get along with one another and make friends, even not in their own tribe.

She only vaguely remembered trying to make friends, just to come with the saddening conclusion that all of the other StoneWing dragonets had went off into a war.

It had left her heartbroken.
She, now, did not know which option would have been best for her. This future, or the other.

As Igneous recalled the looks that the other two shared, she should have know form the beginning that she would be the third wheel.
Her heart shattered again just to think for a second that she - a StoneWing - would be good enough for TruthSeeker.
Foolish, as her dad said.
Foolish.

She then held in a heartbroken wail - for Aurora's sake - and flew out of the clearing. She shouldn't be here anymore, she wasn't good enough for this type of luxury. All the dragons the slaughtered, them seen as enemies. But now that the toxic layer was cut off of her, she could see now that War was just poisoning them all.
He has been for moons.

As she was flying back, she recalled her earliest memories, which were few...

Igneous giggled as she saw her father return from 'work'.

"Father!" She squealed and jumped into his arms, hugging him fiercely.

She then looked over his shoulder for mom.
Mom always came home with a gift for Igneous, perhaps a squirrel or a hint of what daylight and sun was, or a tree leaf. So far she had gotten to taste a couple various animals - a mouse, a deer, and a small pond duck. The mouse was her favorite, of course.
She had heard her mother's stories of WindWings that gave her nightmares for weeks, and how bright and 'bold' everything was there, how the colors would burn your eyes and the sun would heat your scales, like a blanket.
She waited patiently for mom to walk in too.
But she did not come.

Igneous looked at her father questioningly.
"Where's mum? She promised me a hug!"
Her smaller self was angry - how DARE mother betray her like that.

Granite looked at the child, clearly holding back tears.
"She's..... she is not with us anymore, Igneous."
He choked back sobs.
"Sh-she went to say hello to the Creators, remember, those fake legends? She'll speak with legends, little Inchworm."
He then gave a cracked, no, a broken smile.

Igneous soon realized what he meant.
Through all the sleeping that they were causing the evil WindWing's on, mother had gotten sleepy too.
"So mother is sweeping? When will she wake? Can't w-we just make all of them sweep?! MAKE THEM SLEEP, DADDY, MAKE THEM SLEEP! MAKE THEM TASTE MY GUTS - MAKE THEM BURN TO SLEEP!"

She roared, throwing items, breaking glass, ripping books, Granite trying to hold his little monster.

Glasses shattering and screams could be heard from a mile away, making the community fearful that night...

"She has spirit - a-a a fiery soul."
Legend boomed happily.
"I was wrong about her. That anger can be manipulated easily, driven endlessly. With her.... I could create a dangerous weapon, with the correct amount of training."

He smiled.

"So, Granite, let the training.... Begin."

After that day, her world would know her as her new rank, her new name.
As the Spy.
