Chapter 19 - TruthSeeker ✔️
It had been two days since the fall. They had been traveling nonstop (but staying on the island until figuring out a plan, of course) to just barely escape from the other Dragonlings, who were hunting them down. Apparently, even when they had said that they wouldn't hurt her, her power was just too much to not try and take. Again. They had slept in the cave, but quickly fled as the female Dragonling (who had called herself Clickrictling, her power was to talk to us) had heard approaching soldiers. The male had finally introduced himself as Riktikling, who she had not seen before. The group had eventually given the newcomers nicknames, which was unintentional but slowly adapted into their new names: Clicker and Hive.
Riktikling had gotten his name first. He had intentionally wanted a new name; to show a new life or something. He had named himself the first normal word he had heard in dragon: Hive.
She thought the name was cute, but all Wave' could think about were the stinger would sink into your flesh and insert poison into your body. She, of course, found this hilarious as WaveDrift outwardly cringed whenever the name was said.
They had barely slept ever since the fall, and a while ago were racing (if you count racing to be just walking, thanks to WaveDrifts son-of-a-goat wing) away from several Dragonlings who had caught their scent. Screeches and extremely loud whistles could be heard from all directions as they had desperately climbed trees to avoid yet another patrol of Dragonlings.
Scenes like these were easy to catch among the crew about every 20 minutes.
Igneous had seemed a bit twitchy recently, and nobody knew why. Perhaps it was because of eating disfunction's, or maybe not flying for a while, maybe from the pressing anxiety of getting chased and ambushed 10 times per day so far, but Truth knew that it wasn't any of those highly worrying options. She knew Igneous, whose wings tired out quickly, whose eating schedule was worse than a rock, and who had lived a life of the anxiety of being a spy and whatever with her dad.
This? This was different.
This was something that she hadn't been there for.
Something that her dear friend was hiding.
For, this was a secret. And if you knew Truth, you would know that she does not like to have stuff hidden from her.
Truth sighed.
It was currently a little before sunset, and the only thing she had to watch was Igneous pacing. WaveDrift was scouting the area(or he was SUPPOSED to be), and the two Dragonlings were collecting resources. She was up on a lower branch in a large pine, Igneous being right below her. She got lost in thought watching Igneous do circles around the tree, sighing and growling often.
She had tried not yelling at her friend, she really tried.
But she only lasted ten minutes before giving out.
"My SPIRITS, Igneous, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?"
Igneous practically flew into the air, jumping a good ten feet before bonking her head on the tree branch, slowly sitting down and rubbing her head.
"Jeez, Truth', you could have done any different approach than that. Literally any."
TruthSeeker grinned and leaped off of the tree branch to sit next to her friend, all annoyance from the last approach disappearing.
"So. What's up? What's the big secret?"
She could have sworn that Igneous's face just got, like, three shades lighter by this question.
Igneous can blush?
Her mind (who she had just recently named Elda The Annoying Brat) whispered eagerly.
"Nothing....."
Igneous whispered quietly, looking away.
"It's just- you know, if I said it would get awkward-it's no-no big deal, really, but-"
Truth' then slowly got up and stood by her face to face, close enough that they could feel each other's breath. She gazed into Igneous's eyes for a bit before doing something she had never done before.
She slapped Igneous right on the cheek.
Igneous yelped and glared back at her.
"What was that for?!"
Truth' chuckled and motioned her to continue.
"Okay... it's just.. you know, what I first met you guys-before you realized, of course, I kind of, with Wave', you know, I've never met anyone like you guys. You were each so unique and I'm sorry if I'm ruining this friendship, but-"
"Igneous...."
They looked back at each other for a bit before Igneous loweredher gaze, blushing.
"I know that you like WaveDrift."
"What?! No, that's crazy-oh. I forgot that you WindWings aren't-"
"IGNEOUS!"
She heard that before something huge crashed into her. She let out a small yelp before falling onto the ground. Something was holding her in place, and she looked up to see WaveDrifts grin as he held a large rabbit, plopping it on top of her.
"Look! A caught it! These rabbits are much harder to get than ours."
She quickly shoved him off oof her and chucked the rabbit a couple tails lengths, gagging by the smell.
"How old is that thing, it smells like you when you forget to take a rinse."
He frowned.
"Hey, that's a bit extreme.."
Igneous chuckled and grabbed the rabbit, lighting it on fire with a long blast of heat, disintegrating it in about half a minute. Before WaveDrift had released what she was doing, his prize had turned into a pile of ash.
They all looked to the sky as Hive and Clicker returned.
Clicker sighed.
"Well, I guess it's time to continue. To the New Continent. To Pyrrhia."
They together were holding two big trunks.
