Chapter 10 - TruthSeeker ✔️
TruthSeeker opened her eyes just enough to see that she was in a cell. A prison, she thought worriedly. A WindWing was on her right, probably still unconscious. There was a small bucket of water on one of the corners by the entrance, and two beds made of straw on the other side facing the guards. Only one side of the prison wasn't caved out with bars and guards, which a small room with a hole was in, to go to the bathroom. The other dragon was in the bed closest to the guards. He looked fairly unharmed other than needing to jump in a lake to get all of the grit and dirt off.
(Ignore my sloppy handwriting please)
The StoneWing guard closest to the door unlocked the cell, putting an extra bed right below hers, in a line. He then stared daggers at both of them, slamming the cell door closed and locking it tight. The guards all seemed to be facing the opposite direction of the cell, looking out to other cells and muttering things, one of them even had a book, and seemed to be reading it, not paying attention to them at all. The guard closest to the water bowl grabbed something out of a Fanny pack and grunted to the guard on his right. A deck of cards, she realized, I wonder if all guards are this distracted. The guards next to the beds seemed to be the most alert, looking around any second, like a dragon would jump at them and attack them with knives at any moment. She knew that the best side for escaping was the one closest to the water dish, but even then it seemed barely possible to get out alive.
A thumping noise came from the exit and all of her guards turned more guard - ly, standing up straighter and wearing serious expressions, scanning the area. Two dragons came down. The one in front was a light grey StoneWing that wore a professional expression, looking around with a frown as if it were a dragonets bedroom that wasn't cleaned up enough. The StoneWing behind him looked oddly familiar, practically white with shiny metal bands on her right foot. Too familiar.. I know her... who is that again? Her mind searched for a glimpse, memory, anything, and ended up with something.
Her noisy talon steps clattered against the floor. She looked up and saw a young dragonet giggling. GracePromise, or Grace then. Grace suddenly became alert, her ears twitching and her face dead serious. I snorted at her and whacked her with my tail, giggling as well. Her laugh is contagious, I thought grumpily as Grace giggled with me. All of a sudden a loud thump came from the stairs. We both scrambled into the room, forgetting to be stealthy, and the dragon continued up the stairs. Clatter, clatter.
I quickly grabbed the thing closest to me, two huge math textbooks, and walked towards the door. Grace glared at me and shook her head viciously, grabbing my tail. I rolled my eyes and jumped at the dragon, getting loose of Grace's grasp. Closing my eyes, I began to wack at that dumb dragon with all my might. After the first few hits the dragons cries were cut off and a thump went across the floor. I didn't notice, care, think. I felt the books being tugged away from me. I managed to sock the dude before a body tackled me to the ground. I opened my eyes.
"TRUTH!!" Said the voice, suddenly familiar. Grace was standing above me, blocking my pitiful hits.
"You just beat up Tooth! You could. Have. Killed. TOOTH!" She cried, grabbing my wrist and helping me up.
"He was just giving me my Dragonology textbook..." she whispered, looking at her boyfriend Tooth, shaking his unconscious body. His lip, nose, and tail were bleeding.
Huh. How did I do that. I thought guiltily as I looked at the teary face Grace was making.
All of a sudden memories upon memories rushed back to her. She had been kidnapped. She got her last name. Her father hugging her before bed. Straight A's. Mother cooking. Her parents dancing together, the whole house echoing with their laughter.
She was TruthSeeker. WaveDrift was next to her. That was Igneous, her kidnappers daughter. Her mom and dad probably thought that she was dead. She was a prisoner of war. TruthSeeker put her talons on her head, shaking. She knew one thing for sure.
Her life would never be the same.
