Star looked in the nest of eggs. She searched for one that was marked with a venom stain. It wouldn't hurt the dragonet, just melt the eggshell. 

And besides this was important. She needed to know her dragonet. She believed that it would be better if everyone knew their dragonets and siblings and parents. 

There! In the corner was a rainbow egg with a black venom mark. The eggshell had surprisingly stayed put and didn't melt at all. 

Star quickly and quietly tucked the egg in her hands. She needed to get out here fast. She facetaloned. Oh who was she kidding? No one would come in the middle of the night. They were all too lazy and sleepy.

Star still hurried out of there and flew to her hut, the egg tucked safely in her arms. 

She landed and ran inside and put the egg in a spendthrift she had made for it. It was warm in her talons. It was rainbow with spots of blue and purple, just like her. 

"You got it?" A female voice asked. Star jumped.

"Oh, Shore, yes." Star said to her partner. "It's in the makeshift nest."

"Good, when will it hatch?" Shore asked. 

"Soon, probably by the next full moon." She replied. "We need to teach her everything about Rainwings, how we were before, and that we're not lazy and sleepy."

"Yes." Shore said. "I can't believe how powerful we were before, and now we're so weak." 

A rustling sound came from outside.

Oh no. Did someone follow Star after all? Was she noticed? 

Star signaled to Shore to go outside and check it out with her tail. Shore nodded. She opened her jaws, preparing to shoot venom. 

They burst outside, it was full dark, except for a shadow in the corner. 

"Hey!" Shore yelled, blindly shooting a spray of venom. The dark shape jumped. It was large and definitely not a Rainwing. 

"Who are you?" Star added fiercely. "What are you doing in our Rainforest?" She yelled. 

"None of your business." The voice said. It was male and silvery. "You won't have to even remember you saw me." 

"Oh yeah?" Shore challenged. "Are you sure about that?" 

The dragon lunged at her before Star could yell. It gripped Shore's throat and started to choke her. "Quite sure." He replied. 

Unknown to the three, the egg was already starting to hatch, earlier than expected. 

Shore shot venom at him and hit him in the jaw. The dragon was going to scream, but Star clamped his jaws shut. 

Fury and pain shone in his eyes. She shoved Star off. And took deep breaths to take away the pain. 

Shore opened her jaws again, but the dragon had closed it. 

"Shore!" Star yelled. 

"Protect the egg!" Shore yelled back.

"Oh, an egg? Well good for me, bad for you." He started moving towards the hut. 

Star darted inside first, she saw the cracking egg. She gasped and picked it up. 

The dragon grunted and Star heard a snap and a cry of pain. Shore!

She flew to Shore, her body limp. The dragon clutching his head in pain. "Fine." He hissed. "I'll take you instead." He slammed her head on a tree and she fell unconscious. He dragged her to the hidden kingdom of the Nightwings. 

Crack! The egg burst open. A pale pink dragonet with blue and purple spot unfolded her majestic wings. 

"Ark?" She asked. 

"Ark?" She asked again after a while. 

No one was there.
