Getting Used to Things
"Hello? Carter?" A voice wakes me from my dreams. Groaning inwardly I get up and go outside to see who it is. I'm greeting to the smiling figure of Waglington.
"Good morning. I was wondering if you would like a tour around the town since it has changed so much?" He asks me, his tone friendly and inviting.
"I-i don't know....I really should finish building my house...." I admit. He turns away for a moment.
"I'll ask Steve to build you a house that way you can spend more time getting to know everyone if you would like?" He suggests.
"Well....I-I guess so....." I get all flustered. Why do I feel this way? He's just a person. Shaking my head to clear my thoughts, we walk together towards the town.
"I'm sorry that your father is gone Carter....I'm sure that we will bring him back eventually." Wag comments.
"My father was kind and caring, albeit a very experienced prankster. Whenever an opportunity to prank appeared, he would jump at the chance." I tell Wag as we reach the remains of the town.
"Here, let me get you a flying ring." Wag says and disappears in a cloud of smoke. I whirl about in panic. He appears a few moments later beside me.
"What the hell!" I exclaim.
"Sorry. I just traveled to my specter dimension. Here." He explains as he hands me a golden ring.
"This will give you wings so that you'll be able to fly." Wag smiles at me. I put the ring on, and suddenly I can feel things on my back. Turning to look the best I can, I see beautiful black angel wings. I smile at Wag.
"Thanks!" I tell him. Jumping up, I stay in the air, my wings flapping behind me. He smiles and me and I twirl around laughing. I felt like a kid again...
"Come on, I'll show you around. You know about Tucker, Sonja, and me so far. I'll take you to Jordan's towers." Wag states. I nod to him and we fly over to two towers near the town. We land next to the guy with red glasses.
"Oh hey Wag. Hi Carter." He acknowledges. Wag talks to Jordan about magic for a little bit, then we head off across the stretch of water. A giant tree looms into view surrounded by stone walls.
"This is where Tom lives..." Wag murmurs. I nod solemnly, and take deep breaths. Wag and I land next to the tree and Tom appears.
"Hey guys. What's up?" He asks.
"I'm just showing Carter around for now." Wag explains. That's when I remember.
"Hey Wag! Where is Andor?" I question.
"Well he decided to leave Dagrun and travel to become stronger..." Wag tells me.
"Oh..." My voice must have given away my disappointment and Wag puts a hand on my shoulder.
"He will be back eventually Carter. Don't worry about him." Tom adds. As tears threaten to fall, I race off, flying far away. The tears flow down my face and I stop on a mountain, and let out a sob. Everyone I knew is gone, and I'm alone.
"Carter!" I hear a voice call out. The tears won't stop, and I just sit on the mountain letting my sadness overwhelm me. My wings wrap around me into a cocoon of temporary calm.
"Carter...." Wag's voice breathes through the calmness.
"Go away..." I reply.
"No. Carter running away doesn't solve you're problems....and I know you probably feel alone. I did too when we first arrived here. Please don't shut yourself away." He pleads. Slowly, I unfold my wings. Wag offers his hand.
"Come back with me Carter." His voice and smile were warm, not cold or full of pity. Hesitantly I reach out and take his hand. He helps me up, and I can't help but notice the little jolt of electricity I feel where our skin touches.
"Wag...will you teach me magic?" I ask him. He smiles.
"Of course Carter. I'll make you my apprentice." Wag says and I smile through tears. We travel back to the town and Wag's tower had gotten bigger.
"I asked Steve to add in some rooms for you to stay in." Wag explains.
"Thank you so much..." I murmur. Wag leads me through the tower explaining everything and then he gets me started on learning my first spell.
"Magic isn't going to be easy, but I'm sure you can do it. You're a tough cookie." He tells me. I giggle and head outside to start using the dig spell.
"That's a good starting spell to help you start leveling up your magic powers. I'll leave you to it then." Wag gives me a hug and flies off. As I'm digging around, Jordan flies over.
"Hey Carter.....I was wondering if you wanted to hang out sometime?" He asks me sheepishly.
"Like.....like a date?" I inquire. He nods meekly. Thinking it over, I shrug.
"I don't see why not." I answer. His face brightens and his childish grin spreads across his face.
"I'll be back later to pick you up!" Jordan calls as he dashes away. I look down at my torn fuchsia shirt and black skinny jeans. This is no way to dress for a date. Quickly running to my room in the tower, I changed into a black shirt with a cute purple and black plaid skirt. So I like purple and black....a lot....sue me!
"Carter!" Jordan's voice shouts from outside. I finish curling my dirty blonde hair and head downstairs. Jordan's eyes bug out when he sees me.
"Wow Carter. Come on, I have something special planned." His hand is offered to me, and I take it. He flies with me to a quaint picnic table in a lush green forest. Wag and Sonja were there too.
"We will be your servers tonight." Sonja smiles at me. My face heats up and has probably turned pink. I didn't know others would be here...
"I promise I have not spiked the food with drugs. I am clean." Wag announces and I can't help but giggle. Jordan and I sit at the table, and were brought steaks and pumpkin pie. Suddenly, the world started to shake.
Give me the girl.
A voice from the sky echoes over the land. Sonja and Jordan pull out swords, and Wag has a spell book in his hand. Ianite and Tucker dart over, weapons drawn. Tom is the last to the party, his hammer ready to slay.
"Why do you want her!" Ianite shouts into the sky.
That is none of your business witch.
That's when I realize who the voice belongs to. I race forward.
"Where's my dad! What have you done with him!" I scream. The voice chuckles.
I did nothing to your father. These new travelers were saving Ianite and then swapped places from their world to ours. But I hadn't realized you were still here. I will still have my vengeance!
The voice booms and a whirlwind starts around the group.
"Carter!" Wag shouts. I look at them helplessly as another one springs up around me.
"Let me go!" I scream as I'm whisked away from Wag and Jordan and everyone.
"MIANITE! LET HER GO!!!" Ianite booms.
