3- I Need You, Baby
| Caleb |
Avery gently rocked our babygirl, who was currently being really fussy. It wasn't until late that night that we got Juliet to sleep.
I wrapped my arms around Avery's waist. "I don't what I'd without you, baby. She loves you," I whispered.
"She loves you too, Caleb." She shook her head.
"Really? You got her to sleep." I countered.
"Maybe she just wanted her mom. There are times where she just wants you." She laughed.
I rolled my eyes, "Okay."
She giggled and kissed me. "You're lucky I love you, Caleb Andrew."
"Awh! I love you too." I grinned.
"Come on. Let's go to bed, I'm tired." She whispered. I wiggled my eyebrows, and she playfully hit my chest. "Not like that."
I snickered, "Dang. Come on, baby."
I scooped her up into my arms and headed for our room.

Later that night, it was just Juliet and I. The other three had to get home, they had families too, well, except Joey. He did have a girlfriend though.
Juliet was asleep on the couch again, cuddling with her favorite stuffed toy. It was the first toy we ever bought, and Juliet loved it from the start.
I sat in the chair across from Avery, holding her hand. I sighed, "What did I do to deserve this? That should be me and not her. God, I can't lose her. I knew from the moment you placed her in my life that she'd mean everything to me. What did we do to deserve this?"
"Honey, you didn't do anything. I see this sorta thing all the time," the nurse spoke. "It happens all the time. I've seen people who should've been dead, walk outta here. Trust me, it can happen to anyone."
I shook my head, "It's selfish of me, but I wish that she never went out last night. Then she wouldn't be here."
"Mr. Grimm, you didn't know that it would happen. One thing I do suggest; speak positively to her or near her. I don't know how, but it helps. Just talk to her, and show her some kind of affection." She smiled.
"Okay. Thank you, and you can call me Caleb." I stated.
She smiled, "Lilah."
"Nice to meet you." I mumbled.
She sat down in the opposite chair. "So, tell me about her. It helps to kinda talk about the person."
"I met Avery in the third grade. We became best friends. She was actually my first kiss, when we were in the sixth grade. Nothing happened to us, but I did have the biggest crush on her, I'm sure every guy did. Then before eighth grade, she moved to Nashville with her parents." I start, "We, uh, remet at Liberty University. I didn't finish school, because I had gotten an offer for a band. Avery finished her schooling, and moved to Nashville again. We, uh, started dating shortly after that. We got married, and had Juliet."
"Wow. That's a nice story Caleb." She smiled.
I shrugged, "We've always talked about raising a family together. You know, when I was told that she was pregnant, then the baby didn't survive, my heart sunk. I wondered if she even knew."
"Well, Caleb, from the reports, she was only about 5 or 6 weeks. If she didn't know, she was going to find out real soon." She replied.
"We were trying for another. But with a six year old, and me being in a band, and her being a photographer, it was kinda hard." I laughed lightly.
"When she wakes up, there's always another opportunity waiting. And as long as you're willing to fight for her, I am. I don't give up easily on patients." She smiled.
"I won't give up on her. Thank you." I whispered.
"No problem. Get some rest." She suggested. I nodded and she left.
I looked back to Juliet, and she was peacefully sleeping. I sighed and slid out of the chair, getting on my knees. I carefully laced our fingers, her hand being stiff and cold.
"Baby, I'm trying so hard to be there for our daughter. I need you baby, we both need you. You're gonna survive this. I don't care what the doctors says. He says this takes a miracle, but he doesn't faith in God. He's got this, baby. He's got this, He's got us. You're gonna live through this, you're gonna fight and we can raise the family we've always talk about. We're gonna watch our daughter grow up, we're gonna watch her get married and raise her own family. We'll be those awesome grandparents someday. We're gonna fight this, baby. I'm not leaving you, and I love you so much." I whispered, "I really don't want to go home, but I've to get Juliet home. She has school in the morning, and she needs to go. I'll be back tomorrow. I love you, baby. Just know that I'll love you forever, and I need you, baby."
I stood up and kissed her forehead. I went over and picked up Juliet, letting her sleep on my shoulder. I grabbed my things and left the room.
I was woken up in the middle of the night by Juliet. She came in and cuddled against me.
"Daddy, when is momma coming home?" She asked.
"I don't know baby. The doctors are taking care of her. She'll be home soon." I reassured.
"I miss her." She whimpered.
"I miss her too, babygirl. Get some sleep." I nodded.
"Okay." She whispered.
I kissed her forehead and she fell asleep quickly. Even with my daughter in my bed, it felt empty. It felt empty without my wife, without her presence, without her body pressed to mine. Instead, I was holding my little girl praying that I wouldn't lose either one of them.
That morning, I dropped Juliet off at school and went back to the hospital. However, when I entered Avery's room, her parents were there, and they didn't look too happy.
