24 Hours

Sara was inconsolable. It took a while to get her to calm down. Once she was calm, they were able to move her into a room. She would be staying the night at the hospital.

After Sara fell asleep, Stevie stepped out to find Lindsey. He was still in the dark of what was going on.

She found him, still in the emergency waiting room. Lindsey saw Stevie and he stood up. His brows furrowed as he saw tears rolling down her face.

He met her halfway and she lunged herself into his arms. He quickly wrapped his arms around her.

"She lost the baby, Linds." Stevie sobbed into Lindsey's chest. "There was no heartbeat."

Lindsey closed his eyes, his heart breaking. Tears quickly appeared in his eyes and they slowly made their way down his cheeks.

"Oh, Steph." Lindsey said in a whisper.

They stayed that for a moment. They held onto each other and just cried.

They pulled away after some time and Stevie said. "They are keeping Sara here overnight. They will perform a procedure in the morning to get the baby out. I'm going to stay with her."
"Of course." Lindsey said as he led Stevie to sit down. "I'll go home later and take care of things. I'll also tell the girls what happened. Then tomorrow after the girls leave for school, I'll bring you some clean clothes so you can change."

Stevie nodded her head and leaned into Lindsey. Her heart felt so heavy. Her heart broke for her daughter and the pain she was going through. It made her remember her own miscarriage and how she felt.

Stevie pushed away her own pain because she knew she had to be strong for Sara.

Lindsey was able to see Sara before he left. Sara sobbed in her father's arms and Stevie was close by on the other side of her.

Michael let them be for now and stayed sitting down on the chair close to Sara's bed. He had his head in his hands, his tears rolling down his cheeks.

He couldn't believe this was happening. They were so thrilled with becoming parents and now he and Sara just lost their child. It was beyond anything he had ever experienced.

The pain was too much, but he couldn't even imagine how Sara must be feeling. He knew it may be worst than him.

Stevie stayed the night with Sara and Michael in the hospital room.

The next morning, Lindsey came by after the girls went off to school. He brought Stevie clean clothes but she didn't changed until Sara was taken into the O.R.

All the girls were devastated for their big sister and were eager to see her and be there for Sara in her time of need.

Stevie and Lindsey kissed and hugged their daughter tight before she was taken to away to get the procedure done.

After Sara was taken away, Stevie was able to take a quick shower and change into fresh clothes.

Once she was done she brushed her hair quickly and let it dry into her natural curls.

She then sat next to Lindsey and they held onto each other. Stevie's tears didn't stop. She was very worried about her daughter.

Sara was released from the hospital two days later. She requested to stay with her parents. She had no desire to go home. That was the home she was supposed to bring her baby to once they were born.

Now, she felt she needed some time away from their house. Michael agreed and promised to visit when he wasn't working.

Sara settled into her old room and laid down on her bed. She sobbed until she fell asleep wishing she wouldn't ever wake up.

*Three Weeks Later*

Sara continued to stay with her mom and dad. Lindsey and Stevie tried to get through to Sara but she closed everyone off. Even her sisters tried but it was no use.

Even though Sara wasn't vocal and usually just stayed staring at the the wall, Michael would come over and visit. He would lay with her and talk to her. He did most of the talking.

Stevie could see the love he had for her daughter and it killed her that Sara was going through such a loss.

She tried to get through to her by telling Sara about her own story of miscarriage. Sara knew about it but still, she found no comfort in her mother's words.

It was now September and the third week of Sara's stay. Things went on as usual in the Buckingham household with the other girls.

But, a 24 hour stomach bug was going around their school and Lillian and Destiny were the first ones to bring it home.

Stevie took care of them of course as well as keeping a close eye on Sara. Sara was doing a little bit better. She would join her family at the dinner table most nights. She would eat very little, but Stevie was glad she was making an effort to get of her room. To Stevie, Sara was making a little progress.

The stomach bug then began to make its way around to the rest of the girls. at this time, Sara stayed in her room. She didn't want to risk getting sick.

Rhiannon was next, then Lindsey. Next was Robin, then it was Isabella and lastly was little Aria.

Isabella was usually a tough girl, but when she was sick, she became a mommy's girl.

Currently, Stevie was laying down with Isabella. Isabella held on tight to her mother. Tears rolled down Isabella's cheeks and Stevie would wipe them away.

Lindsey was feeling much better and helped in anyway he could. Isabella would allow Lindsey to help her but Aria just wanted Stevie.

Lindsey could see how tired Stevie was. She was taking care of everybody that she forgot to take care of herself.

He walked into Isabella's room carrying a crying Aria in his arms.

"I...I want mommy!" Aria sobbed.

Lindsey has tried his best to take care of Aria on his own, but she continued to cry for Stevie.

"I'm sorry, Steph. I tried to calm her down but she wants you." Lindsey said.
"It's okay." Stevie said with exhaustion in her voice. "Come here, baby girl." She reached for Aria.

Lindsey put Aria down close to Stevie. Now Stevie was sandwiched between her two little girls.

To make matters worse, Aria was having seizures on top of the vomiting. She wasn't able to keep her medication down.

"Shhh...it's okay, baby girl." Stevie said softly. "Mommy has you now. Shhhh..."

Aria hiccuped as she now started I calm down. Isabella was close to falling asleep.

Lindsey sat down at the foot of the bed and watched the love of his life sing to his little girls.

Isabella fell asleep but Aria was fighting it. Stevie slipped out of Isabella's grip and stood up with Aria in her arms.

"Steph, you need to rest." Lindsey said as he followed her to their room. "You're pushing yourself too hard."

Stevie walked over to their bed and laid down with Aria close to her. Aria laid their pitifully and lazily played with her mother's hair.

Sulamith jumped up onto the bed and curled next to Stevie and Aria.

"I'm fine, Lindsey." Stevie said. "My girls need me right now. I'm going to check on Sara soon."
"I'll go check on Sara." Lindsey said. "Don't worry about her. I'll take care of her."

Stevie wanted to argue but she was starting to feel worn out. Stevie felt as if she were the next one to get the stomach bug.

She sighed and nodded. "Okay. Me and Aria are going to take a nap. Right, baby girl?"
"Right, mommy." Aria said quietly.

Lindsey kissed their foreheads and tucked them in by pulling the blanket on them. He then walked over to check on Sara.

A few minutes later, Stevie's sleep was interrupted by Sulamith's barking. Stevie sat up, knowing what was coming.

She put Aria down and once she did, Aria began to seize.

Tears rolled down Stevie's cheeks. There nothing she could go but watch helplessly as her daughter went through a seizure.

It didn't last long. Once Aria finished seizing, she was now awake and aware that she had a seizure.

She began to sob and Stevie picked her up in her arms. She rocked Aria and calmed her down.

Aria then complained about her tummy hurting so Stevie rushed to the bathroom. She held Aria's hair back as Aria vomited into the toilet bowl.

Once done, Stevie got Aria back into bed and got her back to sleep.

Stevie then snuck out and checked on Isabella.
Isabella sat on her bed holding her baseball mitt and ball.

"Isabella? You alright, baby?" Stevie asked as she walked closer to the bed.
Isabella nodded and said. "I still feel yucky. But I'm feeling much better, mommy."

Stevie sat down on the bed and kissed Isabella's forehead. "I'm glad you're feeling better."
Isabella smiled and said. "Thank you, mommy for taking care of me."
"Awe! Bella! Of course! I'll always take care of you." Stevie whispered, suddenly feeling emotional.

Isabella hugged her mother and they stayed that for a moment. They let go and Stevie stayed with her for a while.

Stevie then left Isabella to check in on Sara. Stevie found Sara fast asleep. Stevie didn't want to wake her, so she slipped out of the room.

Stevie sighed as she began to feel sluggish. She walked back to her room and laid back down with Aria.

Lindsey came to the room two hours later. He had checked on Sara when he had told Stevie he would. He then went to their home studio to work on some songs.

He checked the time and saw that it was almost dinner time. He didn't have the heart to wake Stevie, so he decided to take matters into his own hands and order take out.

He ordered soup for everyone because they all were still getting over the bug and didn't want to put anything heavy into their stomachs.

When the food had arrived, Lindsey woke Stevie up and Aria. They were the only ones that were still asleep.

Lindsey then walked over to wake Sara up.

"Sara, it's dinner time." Lindsey said softly.
Sara sighed and said. "I'm not hungry, dad."
"Sara, you haven't eaten anything all day." Lindsey said. "Please, eat with us."
"Daddy, please. I'm not hungry." Sara said.

Lindsey looked down and sighed silently. "Okay. I'll check on you later."

Sara didn't say anything and pulled the covers over her head. Today was one of those days that Sara wished to never wake up.

By the time Lindsey got back to the dining room, everyone else was there.

Aria has gotten her appetite back and was eating her soup.

Stevie knew that Aria and Isabella's bug was reaching the 24 hour mark. She was relieved that everyone was on the mend and feeling better.

After they ate, Stevie heated some soup up for Sara. She placed the bowl of soup on a tray and poured some water into a glass. She then placed the glass on the tray.

Aria was finally less clingy with Stevie and was now sitting with her father in the living room watching tv. All the girls joined Lindsey and watched a movie that was on.

Stevie picked up the tray then walked upstairs to Sara's room.

Stevie pushes the door open with her foot and walked in. Sara wasn't sleeping, but her back was to Stevie.

"Sara? I brought you some soup." Stevie said as she placed the tray on the nightstand close to the bed. "Come on, baby girl. You need to eat something."

Stevie rubbed Sara's back gently. Sara closed her eyes and let the tears fall. She control her voice and said evenly. "I'm not hungry."
"Sara, I'm so worried about you." Stevie said. "Please don't shut us out."

For the past week, Sara was pushing everyone away. Even Michael. But Michael loved her and wasn't going to give up on her.

Currently, he is the hospital. He was called into emergency surgery but he would be over to stay the night with Sara once he was finished.

"I know how you feel, sweetie." Stevie said. "I still think about the baby I lost everyday, and I know you will think about your baby everyday. I know it's hard. But you have to push through. Don't give up."

Stevie's tears rolled down her cheeks. Sara sat up and looked at her mother. Her tears matched Stevie's.

Sara lunged herself into Stevie's arms and sobbed into her mother's chest.

"I want my baby back!" She sobbed. "Why did my baby have to die?! Mama, why?"
Stevie rocked Sara back and forth as if she were a child. "I don't know, baby girl. Terrible things happen all the time and most times there is no rhyme or reason for them. I wish I could take away your pain, Sara." She said. "The baby will always be in your heart. But one day, I know you will get another chance. I just know it. You can then tell them about their big brother or sister that is looking down on them and taking great care of them."

Sara clung to her mother and just let everything out that she had been holding in.

After some time, Sara had calmed down and was feeling a bit better. The pain of losing a child would always be there. But she knew her mother was right. She had to push through and move on. With the help of her husband and parents, Sara knew she would be okay.

Stevie was finally able to get Sara to eat her soup. As she ate, she asked how her sisters were doing. She now wished she could have helped take care of them and give her mother a break.

Once Sara was done, Stevie kissed Sara's forehead and picked up the tray from Sara's lap. Sara thanked her mother for being there for her and for the soup.

By this point, Stevie was losing her energy. Now that she knew Sara was going to be okay, she would be able to rest a whole lot better.

She just needed to put the tray in the kitchen then she would go straight to bed.

However, Stevie had only taken two steps towards the door when her vision began to blur.

Sara looked at her mother and saw her sway.
"Mom?" She said as she stood up from the bed.

She rushed over to Stevie and was able to quickly take the tray away and place it down on the floor.

Sara then put an arm around her mother and that's when Stevie went collapsed.

Sara gasped and held onto her mother and eased her down onto the floor.

"Oh my gosh! Mama!" Sara cried. She tried to wake Stevie but she didn't even stir.

Sara stood up from the floor and quickly ran to the hallway. Then stopped at the top of the stairs.

"Dad!!!" She yelled. "Daddy, help!"

Lindsey heard Sara's voice. He quickly stood up from the sofa and ran towards the stairs.

"Sara? What's wrong?" Lindsey said as he took two steps at a time.
"It's mom. She fainted!" Sara sobbed.
