I'm moving up in swimming. Mr. Hosen says that he has something exciting to tell me next practice. I haven't even been able to focus during school. Well at least for the sessions I had this week.
Finn has been having a lot more doctors appointments lately. I'm sure it's nothing but I wish I knew what was going on. My mom is still taking as many hours as possible at the hospital, so I'm still stuck with my dad. Today he finished a whole bottle of whiskey and shoved me into the wall. I'm okay, now at least. He's starting to get angry that his own wife is not showing him affection. I wish I could tell him the reason why.
This morning when I showed up at Finns house there was a different vibe. I know that sounds weird but I didn't know what it was. It felt different. Everyone didn't seem as upbeat and happy as usual. I was confused. Were they mad at me? I think I'm just paranoid. But I continued to be paranoid throughout the whole lesson and really didn't remember any of what we learned.
After school it was time for swim, which my mom took me to on her only break. She always kissed me goodbye and said good luck. I loved her more than anybody out there. So there I went, eager to hear the supposedly exciting news Mr. Hosen had for me.
"Hey there Joey! Ready for the news!" I nodded my head very fast. "Well I've had professionals come and evaluate my swimmers for a very important event. All of these people were very impressed with your swimming specifically. You are going to the Olympic trials this year if you want it!" My jaw dropped so far down, my eyes widened, and I could barely feel the breath leaving my body. I started to jump up and down with joy and I gave him a big hug. I have never been this excited in my whole life. Something to get away from my dad and something that could change my life. I have gotten a lot of scholarship offers but this is so much better.
After that I jumped right in the pool and started training like crazy. I wanted this so much. I did endless freestyles, breast strokes, and back strokes, and then I went home my dad was passed out on the couch with the television remote in his hand and my mom was still at work. I couldn't wait to see her and have Mr. Hosen tell her the news.
