Blue
Of course, Dean managed to track Cas down at lunch. He was in the cafeteria by himself until Dean sat down next to him.
"What do you want?"
"I wanna spend time with my buddy."
"I am not your buddy."
"Not yet. But I'm getting there."
"When Crowley was picking on me, why did you speak up?"
"Because Crowley's a dick. I didn't want him to be a dick to you."
"Well, thank you." Cas was doing something in his notebook. Dean tried to take a quick look, but Cas wouldn't let him.
"More poetry?"
"No."
"Then what is it?"
"A drawing."
"Of course you're an artist. What's it supposed to be?"
"Do you have to know?"
"Yeah, actually." Cas sighed.
"Someone I met earlier today." Dean smiled.
"Really? Who?"
"Her name is Pamela."
"Pamela Barnes? The, uh, 'psychic'?"
"She isn't really a psychic. She just knows how to read people."
"What, like read people, or-" He put his middle finger to his temple. "-read people?" Cas scoffed.
"You're an ass." Dean laughed.
"Okay then. So, do you draw everybody you meet?"
"Only my friends."
"Then where am I in this book?" Cas looked at him.
"I did say 'friends'."
"You did. I heard you," Cas sighed. "Oh, I see how it is."
"It's nothing personal."
"Well it seems pretty personal. So you let Pamela be your friend and I'm just gonna get the cold shoulder?"
"You seem upset."
"Well, gee Cas, I can't imagine why," Cas sighed, giving in to the nickname. "I came on too strong, didn't I?"
"It has nothing to do with you."
"Then what's it gotta do with?" Cas closed his notebook and looked Dean in the eye.
"I've never been comfortable around other men. Okay?"
"Why not?" Cas looked away.
"My father may seem kid-friendly in the commercials, but he's...really not. I still have scars." Dean began to understand.
"I'm sorry."
"I just try not to let him drink. Or piss him off."
"Man. That sounds like shit."
"I'm used to it though. I've adjusted to the shit. The...complete and utter bullshit." Dean cleared his throat.
"Well, if you ever need to talk about this, I'm here."
"But why?" Cas looked at him again. Dean nearly shed a tear, looking at Cas's bewildered face. Beautiful face.... His eyes were such a wonderful shade of blue, he completely got lost in them. They were hypnotic. Beautiful, yet pained. Hurt. He didn't want to see that. He didn't know why he was thinking of such crazy things. These thoughts were the thoughts of...someone in love. But he couldn't have been. Could he?
