Chapter 7: Traps, lots of traps
"So, which part of the forest are we supposed to be? It all looks the same," Dust groaned.
"Need a wing?" A voice called.
The group turned towards the new voice. It was one the feathered beings when they helped the mother in that forsaken kingdom.
"Hello again," Dream greeted.
"We heard that you needed to go to another part of this forest, but it is quite big to walk on foot". One of the older ones stated.
"That would be very appreciated"
"We have a carriage," humanoid owl said as they pulled the pegasus towards the group. "Unfortunately, we can only fit 4 people inside".
"That is quite alright," Dream thanked them while hopping into the carriage where Killer, Dust and Error followed behind.
"Oh! Oh! Can I ride one?" Ink jumped up and down whilst pointing excitedly at a griffon.
"Yes, you can, I'll help you". A small winged creature answered.
"Sir," a male addressed Blue and Cross, "Would you like to ride one too?"
The addressed men softly thanked the purple bird, and proceeded to climb onto the pegasuses.
Nightmare looked around, he and Horror didn't have any room to fit.
Horror stood beside his boss while admiring the griffon and pegasuses.
"Hello handsome~," A big dragon-hybrid flirted, in which Horror turned to look at the male, "I'll carry you~".
Horror looked at his leader for help, but Nightmare only returned a pitiful expression.
The negative guardian felt sorry for the taller male, it looked uncomfortable but he couldn't do anything.
A phoenix approached the leader, "I'll carry you too".
Nightmare grimaced but nodded, he would've swapped with Horror but he doubted the smaller phoenix could carry someone as large as Horror.
"Let's take off, boys," The winged leader announced, before leaping into the air and spreading his wings.
The pegasuses neighed before running and slowly ascended into the sky. While the griffon roared and did the same.
The two remainders lifted the two skeletons into their arms and followed the crew.
Once in the air, their leader asked Dream for where they're heading to. Dream showed the map to the male, and pointed at the forest area. The male nodded and flew ahead.
"Hello dearies," the mother's soft voice cut the silence in the air as she approached the two creatures who held Horror and Nightmare. "I want to thank you both again for risking your life to save my child.
"Oh, um, your welcome," The negative guardian mumbled, he wasn't very used to gratitude.
Her hands reached out to the duo, "here, my baby made this for you". In her hands were two rope bracelets with two colourful feathers attached to it, and had two jewels on either side of it.
The two men reached out for the bracelets and put the bracelets.
"It looks beautiful on you, my baby would be so happy," she beamed, watching the two male.
"WE'RE UNDER ATTACK!" The leader yelled, alerting the group, "
Rocks, boulders and arrows were thrown in their directions, which the winged creatures tried their best to dodge, but was hit, causing them to start descending down to the ground.
Nightmare swore he saw a familiar purple looking stand further in the distance but he couldn't get a better look as they descended down into the forest below them.
As they landed, none of the creatures survived the attack besides the mother and the leader. Everyone was injured or unconscious from the fall.
Killer was the only one who wasn't injured. A voice in his head told him to quickly use his skill to help his group. In that, he hastily summoned his staff which surprised the empty socket male, and casted a spell.
The group was touched by a soft green glow as their injuries slowly disappeared.
One by one the group sat up, even the unconscious ones.
Killer muttered a 'holy shit' to himself before checking up on his boss who laid beside a tree.
"What happened?" The guardian asked, rubbing his skull.
"I... I think I healed you guys," Killer grinned, "It was so fucking cool".
"Oh, you leveled up." Nightmare pointed out.
"I did? Holy shit, I did!"
"We need to head back, it's dangerous here," The eagle urged the mother to return with him. She looked at the group, but was taken by the hand and they ran.
"I guess we have to continue on foot," Dream sighed before taking out the map again, which surprisingly wasn't damaged. "Come, follow me".
✦•······················•✦•······················•✦
"Are we there yet," Killer groaned.
"Quit acting like a baby, you complain every time we have to go somewhere," Nightmare scolded.
"Don't worry Killer, we're nearly there," Dream reassured the complaining murderer.
"Yeah, I hope s-" Dust was cut off as he tripped on a wire, "oh shit".
Before they fell in a dark pit. And they slid down a steep platform and fell deeper into the dark caverns.
Suddenly, they hit the bottom of what they thought was a tunnel.
Many murmurs of not being able to see, filled the tunnel. The only light they saw was each of their eyelights, which unfortunately didn't light much.
"Does anyone have any light?"
Three lights were lit, coming from the hands of Ink, Error and Nightmare.
Killer gaped, "How did you do that?"
"We're magic users," Error stated nonchalantly.
"Ok, what now?" Cross asked, rubbing his arms as he landed badly on top of it.
"We have to find a better light source, our magic won't sustain and it'd be a waste of mana." Nightmare instructed.
After a few minutes of searching, Blue felt something on the wall, at his fingertips it felt round but grainy, "I think I found something," he called.
"What is it?"
"I think it's a button," Blue answered.
"What are you waiting for, press it".
He was weary, he watched many documentaries about temples and usually it's a trap. Hesitantly, he pressed the button.
Suddenly, torches were lit and now the group can see the room. In front of them was a long tunnel and at the end was a split, with two arrow points, 'left' and 'right'.
"Let's go," Killer takes a step.
"Not... good idea..."
As Horror warned, Killer took a step on to the tiled floor of the ruins.
The room started to rumble and shake, a loud sound of stones sliding against stones filled the tight room.
Behind them was a large boulder, sitting at the top of a ramp, that gradually rolled towards the group.
"RUN!" Cross yelled before grabbing one of his team member's hands.
Quickly the group ran in the opposite direction to the boulder to avoid being crushed by the massive stone.
"SHIT, LEFT OR RIGHT?" Killer screamed, making a terrible mistake when he peaked at the boulder behind him.
A small pebble on the ground, tripped the eyeless male, who landed with an oompfh. Attempting to get up from the floor but was stuck between two rocks.
"Killer!" Cross yelled, seeing his team mate on the ground.
The boulder grew closer and closer to the fallen skeleton, who struggled to get up from his fallen state.
As the boulder was about to hit the emotionless killer, he was snatched away by two vines wrapped tightly around his body.
Killer looked down to where the vines came from. The vines belonged to his boss, who continued to run down the hall towards the other who took a left turn into another room.
Before Killer could thank his boss, he was hushed by his boss who had a finger to his teeth. "Quiet".
Further into the room was a large beast which was a hybrid of two creatures, it had a long serpent-like body with green and yellow stripes, its upper body was a human female.
She laid asleep on her tail and hissed in her sleep.
Shockingly, Horror appeared to already be behind the creature, and in front of a new doorway.
Killer gestured at Horror who in turn, shrugged at the male and took a step back from the beast.
Carefully, Dream took his first step around the large hybrid and sneaked past the creature and successfully made his way to Horror's side.
Following suit, Dust and Cross sneaked their way by the female.
As Error was making his way past the hybrid, Ink whispered to Error, "You think I could feel her scales?"
Error whipped his head towards the painter, "Are you stupid!" He whispered-yelled at Ink, who was already reaching for the tail.
Unfortunately, Ink slid his hand across the tail of the creature, "It's smooth". In which the beast, woken up from her slumber, her green eyes fixated onto Error, as she was ready to pounce at the male.
Before Error could react, he was entrapped in the tight grasp of the woman.
"What a beautiful man, what bringss you here?" She hissed, "Are you here for my love?"
Being tightly bound by the snake, he crashed as she grazed her clawed hands against Error's bones.
"Get off him!" The negative guardian yelled, attracting the attention of the creature.
"Oh? Are you trying to steal my man? My husband?" She snarled, moving her tail further from the group.
"He is not your husband!"
She smirked, "Are you trying to challenge me?"
Nightmare continued to glare at the snake.
In response to the silence, she chuckles, "If you want him back, you must bring me three things".
"What may that be?" Nightmare urged.
"What I need is some meat, it has to be a cow, a crown with a green gemstone and some bones," she grins at the male.
The king scoffs, before agreeing, "Fine, but you must return him to us after we obtain your things".
She hummed in thought, leaning on her body, "alright, little one~ But if you don't get what I want, I will keep him, he'll be my husband and I will kill you for challenging me".
The leader huffed before marching off towards the hall with Killer dragged in tow.
"Wha- Boss!" Killer yelped.
"Let's go," The negative guardian huffed.
"I'll keep watch," Dream whispered.
In which, the twin nodded and continued down the path.
Nightmare paused, "We need some bones, a gem and some meat," he placed his hands on his chin while he listed the things they needed.
"We have meat," Dust added.
"We do?" Killer asked from his spot on the floor.
Dust gave the killer a deadpan expression before nodding his skull.
The killer raised his hands in exasperation, before continually laying on the ground,
"So, we have meat, now we need a crown and some bones," Nightmare ...
"That's easy enough, we're skeletons, we can give one of ours," Ink suggested.
Cross looked at Ink, "that's not how we work, we can't just give a limb". He then turned to the chef, "Do you have any meat with some bones in it?'
Horror sadly shook his head, while Cross let out a quiet 'damn it'.
"We must look for something," Nightmare growled.
✦•······················•✦•······················•✦
Error blinked up at the moldy yellow ceiling, its vines draped down from the roof and into the cracks of the walls.
The destroyer was disgusted. He felt a squeeze around his torso, which made him look at what was around him. Wrapped around him was the tail of the serpent woman, she laid boredly on the sandy tiles, while playing with a small vulnerable mouse. Error tried his best not to glitch so as not to disturb her but was ultimately unsuccessful as the snake turned around and gleefully smiled at the destroyer.
"Awake I see~" She giggled, lifting the squirming and struggling mouse above her head as she opened her maw and dropped the squeaking mouse into her mouth and swallowed it whole.
The destroyer gave her a disgusted look in which she quickly reassured the male.
"Do you think I'm disgusting?!" She asked, "I'll stop, anything for you, my love".
Error grunted, and looked away, which she quickly grabbed his face to face her again.
The glitch yelled before crashing and going limp in her tail.
The snake hybrid slowly raised the destroyer closer to her, she looked at his face. She giggled and puckered her lips and slowly went closer to his skull.
"We have what you requested, fiend!" Nightmare rushed into the room where the serpent was curled around the unconscious glitch.
She huffed and crawled towards the king, "let's see what you have, worm" she snarled the last word.
She looked through the plate of meat and bones, and a crown sat beside the plate, she barked a laugh, "not good enough".
"Not good enough, this is what you asked for!" the king shouted.
She lets out another laugh, "he's mine now, and you'll be dead where you stand".
The beast stretches up before pouncing at the king, who prepared to defend himself. But she stopped mere inches from the king, and yelped. Whipping her head around to see what attacked her.
Behind the beast was Horror standing beside Error whose left hand was lit and some part of her tail was missing, replaced by black smoke.
"MY LOVE, WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO ME" She screeched in pain as she glared at the destroyer.
"I don't love you," Error began, readying another attack, "I love another!" before shooting an attack at the serpent.
She screeched in pain and hid behind a pillar to avoid another attack.
"How dare you!"
The group dodged the swing of her tail.
Ink played a harmony that boosted the party, Blue got up close to the snake proceeding to punch and kicked her and jumped back to avoid any attacks.
As she was distracted by the Blue and Ink, her back was turned to the group in which Dream shot a multitude of arrows at the woman.
Her head snapped at the group, and she lifted her hand to feel her back. She jolted as she eyed the green gemstone attached to the crown that was left previously by the group.
"Dream! Shoot the gem on her back!" Error instructed as he prepared another attack on her side.
Dream nodded and charged an arrow.
Hearing this she slid to the side to avoid the attacks and slithered towards the crown. She gasped as she felt around the area when she saw that the gem was missing.
A cough signaled her to turn around, and staring at her was the shiny gem in the hands of the tall hooded male, who gave the gem to Error.
She snarled and leaped for the group only to fall and hit the ground as the gem on her back was hit but an arrow.
The party watched her fall and disappear into a puff of light blue smoke.
Just as fast the ruins around them started to crumble, the group began running.
"Follow me..." Horror called.
Jumping through tight holes, running through traps, the group ran until they saw a light at the hall.
Just as the ruins crumbled, the last of them made it out with minimal injuries.
"Oh shit! We forgot the crown!" Blue yelped, looking back at the collapsed ruins.
He felt a large hand tap him on the shoulder, once he turned he was faced with the broad chest of the chef, who quietly handed him the said crown.
Blue let out a small 'oh' before inspecting the crown, brushing his skeletal fingers across the smooth golden surface.
"How many of these do we have?" Blue asked, facing the positive guardian.
"Perhaps you should ask my brother, he should have the artifacts", Dream suggested.
The blue male nodded and strolled over to the guardian's brother, "Do you by chance have the relics?"
The dark male looked down at Blue, before nodding and snatching the crown out of the younger male's grasps.
"Where to now?"
"Warslusea, the ancient sea," Dream announced, looking into the far distance.
