Our Melody
So, Barry went forth in his life. With time, the team decided against their previous decision to not know anything about Flashpoint. He told them all about Flashpoint Parker and the kids, his parents, and Kid Flash.
He explained how incredible it was to be granted with Melody after all the destruction he caused in the first place. Then, he continued on with, "So, that's why I ask of you all to keep information about Parker from me. I don't want to know when, where, or how she passed. I don't need to know."
"We won't, Barry," agreed Iris softly.
Sometimes, they found themselves in tricky situations. On occasion, he asked questions, such as, "When did Park have Melody?" or "Did we have a real wedding this time?" to which whomever was asked had to phone a friend to see if it was worth hurting Barry a little. In the outcome, it would always bring a smile to his face. The issue was knowing whether it was a sad or happy smile.
He and Parker did have the same wedding as before. It was spontaneous, included the slow-talking Priest, and Barry crying. It was only a sooner date than what he remembered from the other timeline.
Melody was an instant pregnancy, perhaps a little before he and Parker were officially married. She was born in the midst of an angry Parker speech, according to the retelling Barry received from everyone. She was yelling about team effort and togetherness when she suddenly came to a stop in the speech and her face fell white.
"Ahhhh, no," she had said flatly, frozen still. "Oh. No. Noooo."
That was when Cisco started listening to her. He sat up in his seat, cautiously asking, "Parker, you good?"
She, wide eyed, looked at Barry. "Your child is about to slide the fuck outta this."
"Our child?" corrected Barry.
Parker's face flushed red and she slapped her hands over her pelvis, covering the water stain against her jeans. No one had ever seen her as embarrassed as she was then. Afraid of an outbreak or causing further stress, the team was eerily silent. Harry left.
Barry pushed off the desk he leaned on slowly. He approached her as if she was a wild dog, stepping forward with time and one hand out in case she 'bit', or in her case, snapped at him. She had been yelling at him for the tiniest things within the last week. He expected their beloved daughter would be arriving soon. Parker never yelled at him for pointless things.
When Barry's hand approached a spot where Parker didn't have to move an inch to grab, she did. She tugged him once, hard enough to bring him front and center. She had gripped his hips, staring up at him with a quivering lip and watering eyes.
"Parker, it's all right. I'll be right next to you the whole time," Barry had said, bringing her in for a hug. "We've waited months for this. I'm ready to meet our girl. Are you?"
"No," said Parker instantly. "No, I want to quit. I did the trial and now I want to quit. I'm terrified. I don't want to do this anymore. It's gonna hurt. I'm gonna be torn up and never be able to--"
Barry pressed her head further into his chest once she started softly rambling about the sexual deeds that might be sacrificed because of their child 'ripping her up.'
"Do we even have the money to have a child? What if I have to do a C-Section? That's money we have to take from here! And I still haven't fixed part of the floor from Geomancer!"
Barry cupped her face in his hands, trying hard to stop his smile before she got mad about that, too. "Parker. I need you to breathe."
"I can't. My throat's closing up."
"You're not allergic to having a baby, dear."
"No, I'm allergic to pain in my uterus, dear."
Out of Parker's family, Peter was the only one to make it over in time for the birth. He was on the opposite side of the bed, holding Parker's hand. He slapped her wrist to get free once she cracked his knuckles from squeezing too tight.
Barry, on the other hand, had three of his fingers fractured by his wife. He didn't notice too much, at first, too excited to see the love of his life enter the world.
Cisco was instantly named the godfather, to which you can be sure he made endless references about.
Iris, despite Parker's hesitancy, was named godmother.
Barry, back from Flashpoint, had read everything in the Baby's First Year book. He knew how and when she opened her eyes for the first time, or the first time she giggled.
"That one was at me," said Cisco proudly. "Parker handed Mel to me and I held her like a football and was doing my best Tom Brady impression. She laughed at my terrible athletic ability, probably."
Every first for Melody was written in immense detail. Parker had known he was going to want to go back and relive each experience, especially the ones he wasn't there for. She had understood he wanted everything and anything to do with the slightest memory of his wife, especially things that dealt with their daughter.
The seashell hanging over Melody's crib, however, was one of the single things he couldn't find an explanation for.
One of the nights Cisco stayed with Barry, he offered to put Melody to sleep. He let it happen, though he followed and lingered in the doorway to watch.
Whispering little songs in her ear, Cisco rocked her in his arms until she fell still, then he tucked her into the crib successfully. It was almost like a Mission Impossible movie, he joked, when withdrawing his arms. He had to freeze at any movement Melody made, fearing she would start bawling.
"You're good with her," observed Barry.
Cisco's fingers tapped a photo of Parker, Caitlin, Barry, and him on the desk. He smiled at it, still grieving tremendously, but slowly regaining the strength in his heart. He didn't have to say anything. He learned what he did from Parker, in the short amount of time he spent with her and Melody.
"Can I ask a question?" wondered Barry.
Cisco shrugged.
"Why does Melody have a shell here?"
Cisco chuckled, which caused Melody to stir. In lightening speed, though, not literally, the two were out of the bedroom and closing the door. They retreated quietly to the living room.
"It's how me and Parker found her name," explained Cisco as he popped open another beer. He offered one to Barry, who raised his eyebrow knowingly. Cisco nodded, remembering, "More for me."
Barry asked for further explanation.
During the return of King Shark, Cisco and Parker were walking the length of the dock to stretch out their legs. Random sentences dragged on and on, as usual when the two were together. Complete nonsense could be spoken and they could still understand each other; that's just how they were as a duo.
Parker had stuttered on some 's' word, prompting Cisco to tease her with a numerous amount of 's' sentences, ending with the famous: Sally sells seashells by the sea shore. Refusing to be a loser, Parker repeated the phrase in different tones, over and over, to get it correct.
"'You've got a great melody going on,'" he recalled himself saying. "And that's how we got her name. Parker loved it right away. So, you're welcome for naming your daughter, basically."
Barry smiled. "Thank you."
