Palmer and Smoak
The next day, Barry ran into the Cortex with new information on a possible meta-human case: a girl who died from unknown blister-type wounds all over her body.
Barry brought his findings from the body to S.T.A.R. Labs, letting Caitlin help him find out more on the case.
"Death by apitoxin," Caitlin announced.
"Honeybee venom," Dr.Wells clarified.
Parker and Cisco had varying degrees of discomfort on their faces.
"Why did it have to be bees?" Cisco grumbled. "I don't do bees. Ain't nobody got time for bees."
Dr.Wells ignored Cisco. He looked at the biological evidence from the scene once more. "When a honeybee stings, their stingers are ripped from their abdomen, killing them."
"There were no stingers in the body. And no dead bees in the car," Barry said, understanding where Dr.Wells was aiming at.
"Honeybees only insert point one milligrams of apitoxin when it releases its stinger," Caitlin informed.
"Yet, Ms. Kang was found with enough venom in her body to kill a herd of elephants. So, it appears, not only have we found a meta-human who can control bees, but also increase their amount of toxicity."
"Bees communicate by releasing pharamones, maybe they're controlling them through secretion?" Barry wondered.
Cisco fake-gagged. "Parker, want to join me in getting a beekeeper suit?"
"Gladly," she mumbled, taking a seat in the chair behind the computer desk.
If the entire case was going to involve bees, she was almost one-hundred percent sure she would be sitting out. Maybe even taking a trip to Starling City just to ensure she wouldn't get stung.
Barry smiled. "Pretty sure I can outrun a bee, Park."
"But.." Another voice chimed. Arms wrapped around Parker's shoulders. "Don't run into a lake. Bees will wait for you to come up for air, then sting you. Turns out there's a lot to discover.."
"Felicity!" Parker yelled, squeezing her favorite blondes arms excitedly. "What are you doing here?"
"Can you guys come outside for a second?" Felicity asked.
Team Flash bundled up to comply to her request.
Felicity watched the sky, conversing with Parker about things that happened since their last meeting.
"No super cool meta-humans to talk about. Iris still doesn't know Barry's the Flash. Oh, my little Allen phased through a wall the other day. That was pretty cool. Anything good happen in Starling?"
Felicity made a sound of excitement and her finger shot up to the sky, pointing at a blur in the sky.
"Is that a bird?" Caitlin asked, squinting.
"No, a plane," Cisco said.
The blur became a wobbly human-shaped figure as it decesended from the sky. It narrowly missed the side of the S.T.A.R. Labs building and with not so much of a smooth landing, fell onto its knees on the pavement.
The 'it' turned into a 'he' after the helmet of the suit was pulled off, revealing a man.
"It's my boyfriend," Felicity breathed.
Before Parker could say a thing about Oliver, the man walked closer in a robotic way, due to his suit. His closeness allowed Parker to examine him. Perfect eyes, contagious smile, luscious black hair.
"Hi!" he happily greeted, throwing a hand up. "I'm Ray!"
While the others of Team Flash were exchanging names, Parker leaned over to Felicity, wildly impressed with her ability to snag attractive men.
"He's a damn Disney Prince," Parker mumbled.
"Oh, I know.." Felicity agreed under her breath.
"And who's this? No, wait, don't tell me.." Ray quickly said, grinding his teeth in thought as he stared at Parker. "Parker?"
"You'd be correct," Parker said, holding her hand out to shake his.
Adding reasons to believe he was a true Disney Prince, Ray Palmer took her outstretched hand and kissed it.
Parker tried to wipe the ecstatic look off her face before anyone saw.
"I've heard a lot about you from Felicity."
The girls shared an impressed look. Felicity hooked an arm through Parker's and led the Team back into the Cortex.
Everyone besides Parker lingered around Ray, watching in awe or interest while he stepped out of his suit.
"Well, my ears popped," Ray said after he set the suit on a mannequin for examination.
"You're lucky you didn't break your neck," Caitlin said.
At the keyboard, Parker's fingers typed in Ray Palmer into a Google search on the computer. It was odd, at first, how quickly a picture of his face and job popped up. With a look at exactly what his occupation was, it made sense.
"He could probably pay for it very easily.." Parker predicted. "This dude owns Palmer Tech. Good Lord, Felicity.. You really know how to pick your men."
"Yeah, what is it with superheroes being billionaires?" Caitlin wondered.
Parker raised her eyebrow. "Barry isn't rich."
"So, have you picked a name yet?" Cisco cut in. He was practically bouncing on his heels, eager to give a suggestion.
"I'm kind of partial to the A.T.O.M," Ray admitted.
Cisco tilted his head. "You married to that, or..?"
In order to lessen the offence, Dr.Wells decided to give a compliment. "Your A.T.O.M. suit, is quite the technological achievement, Mr.Palmer. I'm impressed."
"And he's never impressed," Caitlin added, ensuring Ray knew the full extent of the nice comment.
"Well, thank you. But I can't quite seem to keep it up."
No one would have noticed the sexual innuendo, if Felicity hadn't caught it and proceeded to go a little too in-depth to ensure the rest of the Team understood it was not meant as a innuendo.
"He means the suit."
"Yeah, I mean the suit."
"Yup, I can say that every thing works just fine. There's nothing to fix in..that..area.."
"No, no, no, the sex is great!"
Parker and Barry caught each others eyes, a mix of horrified and insanely amused. That was the moment they understood why Ray and Felicity were together. Both were painfully awkward.
"I know from Felicity that you have been very helpful with Barry and the Flash suit, and I was hoping to get another set of eyes on my.." Ray paused, looking for Felicity's help to finish his sentence.
"Problem," she filled in.
"Problem," Ray repeated.
"Any friend of the Arrow is a friend of--"
Cisco interrupted Dr.Wells and nodded eagerly. "Hell yes! I've already got so many ideas.."
"Uh, guys, we kind of have a lot going on already," Barry disagreed loudly. He looked to Parker for back up, but she was confused on why he was refusing their stay. "There's a meta-human killer that can control a whole swarm of bees?"
"Cool!" Ray said. He stopped. "I mean awful."
Parker held a hand over her heart, having a flashback to the night she met Oliver. "Ah, memories.."
"I'm sure Caitlin and I will provide ample support, Barry," Dr.Wells encouraged.
"He only mentioned Caitlin and himself because Parker and I are obviously sitting this one out," Cisco clarified. He air-fived Parker from across the room.
Felicity, however, noticed Barry's odd attitude. She held a hand against Ray's shoulder. "Ray, why don't you stay here and work on your suit while Barry, Parker, and I run to Jitters for some coffee.."
Barry and Parker agreed. The three grabbed their coats and Parker snatched the keys to a S.T.A.R. Labs van. There was an audible groan from Felicity and Barry.
Just to prove them that she was capable of driving safely, the entire way to Jitters, Parker drove like a Grandma. She kept the speed at twenty miles per hour and if turning, flipped the turn signal on five blocks before the actual turn.
Felicity and Barry didn't complain at first, knowing that was Parker's goal, but within the first ten minutes, they were begging her to drive faster. She didn't obey, forcing them through more painful driving.
When they arrived, the two nerds jumped out of the car with heavy sighs, relieved to be free from Parker's driving. Felicity and Barry went straight to order coffee while Parker found a table.
"You know I left Starling City to get away from the mood and the brood, but it looks like it followed me here," Felicity said hastily.
Barry handed Parker her iced tea and took a seat at the table, nodding apologetically. "I know, I'm sorry. Like I said before, it's just not a good time."
"I've been through enough with you to know when you're holding something back.. Is this because I told Ray your secret?"
Barry's eyes moved to Parker, who sat unaffected by Felicity's words. His forehead scrunched. "Park, aren't you mad that another person found out?"
"You aren't the one who told. Mostly every one we know has the capability to tell if it's necessary. For sweet Disney Prince Ray Palmer, it was," Parker said. She breathed a dreamy sigh and sipped her iced tea.
"Back on the topic.. It's just that I don't want to put anyone else in danger," Barry admitted to Felicity.
Felicity narrowed her eyes. "In danger of what?"
The answer wouldn't be told to Felicity until much later. Their first interruption was by Eddie Thawne. He jogged through Jitters to reach Barry, a grim look on his face.
"Barry, Parker, hey," Eddie greeted.
"You remember Felicity, right?" Barry asked.
"Of course, hello.." Eddie said, but it sounded forced and had a hint of panic.
Felicity noticed, pouting. "Is everyone in Central City in a bad mood? I thought Central City was supposed to be the fun one!"
The hesitancy, panic and Eddie's eyes darting between everyone was enough for Parker to understand what Eddie came for.
"Felicity knows," Parker explained.
Eddie opened his mouth to start on what he wanted to say, but stopped, the words registering in his brain. "Wow. So everyone but Iris."
"Feels that way," Barry sighed.
"It is that way," Parker corrected.
"How do you lie to everyone you care about?" Eddie asked in disbelief.
"For starters, don't think of it as lying," Felicity chimed. "Think of it as protecting her from getting hurt. With a fib."
"But Iris can tell when I'm lying. And it's putting distance between us."
A bell went off in Parker's head, and apparently, so did one in Felicity's. "Idea!" they chorused, then looked at each other.
"Were you thinking date night?" Parker wondered.
"Exactly. Dinner?" Felicity asked.
The girls high-fived, looking to the boys for confirmation. Barry was checking his text messages.
"Another bee attack. It's at Folston tech," he said.
"I'll see where Joe is," Eddie said, grabbing his own cell phone.
Barry slid out of his seat and kissed Parker's cheek. She patted his cheek lovingly.
"Beee careful," Felicity sung.
Almost physically pained by the pun, Barry actually stopped for a moment. "For real?"
"Bad pun, sorry," Felicity apologized.
"Just don't die," Parker shouted after him.
Barry Allen did the opposite of that, the two girls learned on the drive back to S.T.A.R. Labs. Ray hadn't texted them in depth details, but he mentioned something about having to use the defibrillator to revive Barry.
Parker was enraged. She slammed the car door shut and stomped the entire way up to the Cortex, making sure they knew her angry presence was near.
"Who should I be mad at?" Parker asked when the doors opened. Her fingers gripped the back of a computer chair so hard her knuckles turned white.
"It is our own fault, Ms.Sylas. We couldn't find an exit fast enough," Dr.Wells admitted.
"But Barry could. Because he has super speed!" Parker locked eyes with Barry. "You need to start thinking on your toes. Stop relying so much on us, because obviously, it doesn't always work."
Felicity stood beside Parker, her glare directed towards Barry. "I was very specific that you not die."
"I led you the wrong way. The schematics we had, they weren't up to date," Cisco informed.
Parker's eyes turned into slits.
"They weren't up to date? That's never happened before," Barry said.
Parker would have applauded. For once, Barry noticed a flaw in a plan before herself. She was proud, though she wouldn't admit it since her anger outweighed it.
"What, you think Cisco was trying to get you killed?" Felicity joked.
Unfortunately, Barry took it too seriously. He gave an awkward laugh, scratching the back of his neck. "No.. What? That's crazy. Doesn't make any sense."
"I know.. That's why I was joking.." Felicity said, her head tilted with curiosity.
"Barry," Dr.Wells said loudly, interrupting their talk. "It's our job to protect you, and today, we failed, but this serves as a learning point to be more vigilant in the future."
Caitlin, who no one noticed was absent until then, walked into the Cortex with a tablet in her hands.
"Good news-- the apitoxin is out of your body. Your levels are back to normal, Barry."
"Perfect," Barry said. In the blink of an eye, he was changed into a suit. "Love of my life, plus Felicity and Ray, we're going to be late to dinner."
"Are you sure that's wise?"
"You just died."
"Takeout might be a better idea."
Following Team Flash's protests, Ray nodded his head. "Yeah, we could totally cancel."
"I'm fine," Barry insisted eagerly."Alive. Hungry. Let's go."
