Involvement

Waiting on the team to arrive, Barry decided to entertain himself and spin Parker's chair carefully. She tucked her feet into the chair. Barry generated faster circles, laughing wildly, as she continuously giggled.

"Hello," greeted Dr. Wells.

Barry reached forward and jerked the chair to a stop. He pouted when Parker latched her hands onto his shoulder, head hung low.

"What were you two doing?" asked Cisco.

"I was just spinning her in the chair," said Barry.

"Not a good idea, huh?" asked Caitlin.

"Nah," said Parker painfully.

Cisco took the folder from the computer desk. He scoffed, "A VA file number is all the info you have on the bomber?"

"CCPD's been ordered off the case," announced Barry.

Caitlin's brow scrunched. "Who has the power to do that?"

"The army. Yeah, some general, his name was Eiling, I think," recalled Barry.

"General Wade Eiling," confirmed Dr. Wells.

Barry and Parker shared a look. She asked, "You know him?"

"Yeah, I know him," said Dr. Wells shamefully. "About ten years ago, General Wade Eiling contracted S.T.A.R. Labs to develop advanced gene therapy for soldiers. I was interested for potential medical benefits for civilians; Eiling wanted to develop mind reading capabilities for interrogation purposes. I stopped the study when I saw his techniques up close, but our split was less than amicable..."

"He took all the evidence I collected on the bombing. Everything but the folder," said Barry.

"Well, lucky for us, the VA finally joined the new millennium and digitized their records," said Cisco. He sat next to Parker and clicked away on the keyboard. "A lot of redacted info, but our girls name is Bette Sans Souchi."

Parker craned her neck to see the screen. "Oh, she was an EOD specialist for the army. That explains quite a bit..."

"EOD?" asked Caitlin.

"Bombs," clarified Parker and Cisco.

"Is there an address?" inquired Barry.

"One person in case of emergency: Cameron Scott. Englewood," informed Cisco.

Parker watched in the reflection of the computer as Barry disappeared from behind her. The suit was gone, and so was he.

××××

Parker's eyes dug into her kneecaps. She rubbed her face back and forth, green and purple streaks flying across the darkness in her closed sight. She thought of everything she could to try to distract herself from the situation at hand.

"There must be a perfectly reasonable explanation for why he isn't answering," said Caitlin quietly to Cisco. She pressed the speaker again. "Barry!"

Shirtless and panting heavily, the man himself slid into the Cortex.

Parker slapped her hands over her eyes, not wanting to see his shirtless torso. Well, she did, but in a special way. She preferred if Cisco and Caitlin weren't there, too.

"Don't ask," she heard Barry mutter. "Park, I'm decent."

"I'm going to ask. Where's my suit?" asked Cisco emphatically.

"Our suit," corrected Parker.

"It's gone."

Cisco stared blankly at him. "What do you mean, 'it's gone?' What did you do with my suit?"

"Your suit blew up, dude," said Barry flatly. "I managed to get out of it before it went kaboom."

"My suit went kaboom?"

"Fun fact about Bette Sans Souchi: she's not carrying bombs.  She touched the emblem on the suit and turned it into a bomb. She's a meta-human," explained Barry, appearing entirely hostile by the exchange.

"With the ability to cause spontaneous combustion upon tactile contact," added Dr. Wells.

Parker stared at Barry, horrified. The suit that she spent hours working on, that she had an emotional tether to, was gone from their grasp. That suit was her first piece of beautiful work.

"She blew up my suit," breathed Cisco.

"Okay, you have, like, three more," reminded Caitlin.

"I made two, and that was my first," pouted Parker.

"I loved that one," whined Cisco.

Barry tapped the desk, attempting to steer the conversation on track. "Come on, guys, what else do we know about her?"

"Oh, I don't know, she's pure evil?" asked Cisco. "We're gonna find this girl and send her butt into the pipeline. No one blows my tech to smithereens and gets away with it."

Parker remembered her own sliver of information. From her back pocket, she dug out the sketch and unfolded it, placing it into Cisco's hands.

His mouth dropped. "Unless she looks like that..."

"I don't think she meant to hurt me," said Barry.

"Her being a meta-human explains General Eiling's interest in her," mused Dr. Wells.

"And why he stole the case from us," said Joe, entering into the Cortex. "He didn't want anyone to know what she could do."

"Detective," greeted Dr. Wells.

"Doctor," nodded Joe. "So, a human bomb. Must be Tuesday in Central City."

"Yes. General Eiling is not one to give up a potential asset without a fight," explained Dr. Wells.

"We have to find her before he does," demanded Barry.

"I'll start running the FRS," said Parker.

"Uh, first, can I see you two for a second?" asked Joe.

Barry and Parker met him in the hall.

"When were you planning on telling me that Iris saw the Streak?"

"That was not planned, she caught me off guard," said Barry honestly.

"We had a deal. You keep her in the dark about meta-human's and I don't go Floyd Mayweather on you."

"Okay, Joe, I know--"

"And she's writing a blog now!"

"I already talked to her about that," said Barry.

"I haven't, but I can try," offered Parker.

Joe nodded encouragingly. "You try. Barry, you talk to her again, and be more convincing."

Barry dropped his head. He bounced a little from foot to foot, thinking, as he didn't know what to say to assure his foster father, let alone how to get Iris to stop.

"Uh, Bar, I think he means now," said Parker.

"Yup," said Joe.

Barry took off.

Parker ventured into Casa de Genius for some quiet reading time.

To: Iris
Hey there. So I was searching on the internet and guess what I found? A blog! You'll never guess about what.

From: Iris
Oh, come on, not you too. You and Barry can't start ganging up on me now

To: Iris
Okay your dad literally threatened to kill us if we didn't get you to stop. I'm not tryna die thanks and you shouldn't either

From: Iris
Yeah yeah. Don't worry. I'm sure the streak would save me from danger (:

Caitlin patted her shoulder. "Hey, are you busy?"

"What can I do?" asked Parker.

"Do you think it could be beneficial for Bette if you made her gloves? I don't want her to be afraid when she's here," said Caitlin.

"Uh, check the top drawer of the file cabinet in the Cortex. I keep extra winter clothes in there. Should be some black gloves," offered Parker.

"Yes, that's perfect. Thank you. So, did you want to call Barry, or should we?"

"For what?"

"Cisco thinks he knows where Bette is heading. We need Barry to check it out."

Parker raised her book in the air. "I just got to a good part. You can have it."

Caitlin smiled. She returned to the Cortex.

"You are the shuckiest shuck faced shuck in the world!"

Parker's eyes scanned the line over and over. Her mind didn't cooperate with the words. All she could think was about Bette touching Barry's skin. One touch, and he would cease to exist.
