Chapter Fifteen

Petra's POV

"You betrayed the Master Jenny, and it won't forget that anytime soon." The trail seeths, obviously trying to get on her nerves, I'm just not exactly sure how. Though I did notice the strange exaggeration on 'Jenny'.

Jennifer's fists clenched as her ears went back against her head, eyes blazing in anger.

"Don't you see?! The Master has you fooled like it has the rest of them fooled. You can't trust it to do anything it says it will!" She shouts back, making the trial look surprised that she actually spoke out, and yelling at that. With her fur bristling, she decided to keep going, "The Master may tell you that its palms will save this world from those who live in it, but you need to realize that what its planning isn't going to save the world! It'll destroy it!"

Chapter Fifteen- The Trails Part Two

The guys glared at her, seeming to be staring right through her to her soul, scanning for something g unknown to the rest of us, staying silent for the most of this odd display. "You, you're one of the good ones. Don't let this battle end you." He slowly let's his gaze stare into each of us before finishing with, "Any of you. You all are what keeps the world turnin. The ones willing to do the right thing."

He walked over to Jen continued to galre before finishing with, "You won't get any trouble from me. But I can't promise anything from the others." As Jen looked shocked by the statement, I couldn't help but notice the sun disappearing and the moon replacing it, making its way into the sky as stars appeared above our heads.

Jessie shook her head, almost like she heard something that didn't make any sense and wanted to get it out of her head, making me worry about her.

"You really can't put in a word for us? Something? I'd hate to have to fight all of the trials." She points out, acting more friendly than before. The man shakes his head, putting his pickaxe on his back. "No. They aren't like me. They believe that The Master is right, you'll have to fight them." Jen didn't seem to like that, and shook her head, asking, "Couldn't you help?"

The Trial's eyes widened as he took a step back. "Against the Master? That's a lost cause! You all are doing the right thing here, but I don't stand a chance!" He exclaims, making me narrow my eyes. How can anyone know something that's so terrible without doing anything? My blood boiled so much at what had happened here that I didn't notice Jessie wrapping her arms around her own stomach.

"What?! You're on our side on this, but you won't fight?" I ask, realizing too late that the hint of annoyance in my voice was more than a hint. Much much more. "Its not that simple." He tried to object, making my eyes narrow. I could feel Jessie's hand on my arm to stop, but I couldn't help it. "How is it not that simple? The Master needs to be stopped, you said it yourself. So why not help?"

Finally, Jessie snapped me back from my anger-fest by quietly choking out my name, making me turn to face her. Her eyes were squeezed mostly shut in pain, her skin had paled, and she was now clutching her head as if she had been hit.

"Jessie?" Olivia called in concern, drawing her attention from the Trial over to her best friend, wh owas hunching over in pain, tears dripping from her eyes.

I move closer to her, realizing that she is no longer cold, and is a normal tempetautre, making part of me glad that I don't have to flinch away anymore, and another part if me terrified of what was happening right now. Luckily Jen had an answer. "This is the transition stage. Normally she's asleep for it and doesn't feel it. However, the process takes a bit. Petra, you'll need to carry her until she moves to the next symptom."

Something about that made my eyes widen, stomach flip and my heart skip a beat, I wasn't sure what made it happen though. Jessie didn't even seem to hear us over whatever pain she was in, cringing as we talked. So, I decided to walk in front of her, hoping to get this through to her. "Jessie, I'm going to carry you alight?"

I didn't see any signs of her hearing a word I had just said, so I carefully move my arm under her knees and one under her arms to support her, watching as she gasps in shock, her head snapping towards me in fear. She relaxes when I match her stare, trying to keep her calm in a silent way as she leaned her head against my chest, holding her head once again, blocking out an unheard noise.

"Look, you can help us, or run. I'm fine with either. Just know that we are doing this together, not apart." She points out, starting to walk forward through the multi-biome terrain that looked almost easy to get through. Too easy. Olivia and Axle followed in tow, not bothering to even question this. Lukas nodded for me to follow, so I did. But as I left with the others, I heard Lukas say something that would stick with me the rest of the way to the Trial.

"Look, we may be no match for The Master alone, but together? Heck, I don't think a giant could stop us. But that doesn't mean we don't need all the help we can get." He starts, starting to walk behind us, my ears picking up the sound of him walking. Though I couldn't see the Trial's face, I knew that those words were hitting him, and when Lukas called this one sentence over his shoulder, they hit me too. "This may be a lost cause, but if we are the heroes anyone says we are, we'll rush towards it anyway, and try to save the world."

A smile spread across my lips at those words, and I knew he was right. I looked down at Jessie, who shook with pain from whatever was going on in her head, and I realized those words applied to her.

She may be a lost cause, getting her back to normal in time, but I was going to do it anyway. Jessie was going to get better if I have to die to do it.

She's the person I care the most about.
