- ❹ - Assistant & Intern

"You're going to watch from the audience, like a regular employee. Since you'll be working like one."

"Huh? I thought I was your assistant..."

"You are. One of my jobs as an assistant before, was to watch over Miss Yanemoto. I have passed down that duty to you now."

"So then? What department are you going to throw me in then?"

"Is there anything that you've studied particularly prior to law?"

"Well... I didn't exactly study it but..." I paused trying to validate in my own thoughts if that would 'count'.

"Well?"

"I used to work part time at a daycare in my teenage years, and in my recent years I've been tutoring..."

"Private tutoring?"

"One of my relatives is a teacher at an all girls school, and when I had the time, I would go in a help if I could, nothing special."

"I see."

Hayami sat in silence, thinking to himself after he glanced at me for a short moment.

"Education." He spoke up.

"Education?" I repeated.

"I'm assigning you to the Education Services Group, as an intern." He announces. "Soon, Sanno's granddaughter, will be put on a project with the education board. You're going to be a part of it too."

"Intern? That takes me back!" I laugh. "Alright. If it's for Mr. Sanno's sake... It can't be helped."

"I can't be having you be too busy, after all you're going to be the writer of the game." He hands me the contract that I had created for the marriage program.

"Are you talking about the whole 'task' thing that was mentioned during our meeting? We're going to tell them to do stuff on top of having them live together?"

"Of course." Hayami smiles. "How else will they open up to each other? You'll be in charge of writing proposals for those. When you finish you can turn them in too me for approval."

~*~*~*~

I recall the lengthy conversation that Hayami and I had earlier today. I didn't really care about the whole downgrade of a position Seichiiro gave me, in all honesty, I was almost looking forward to working less that I did before.

More time for me, I guess.

I waited in the lobby for "Kougami", one of the marriage candidates that also worked in the education unit. Hayami thought it would be a good idea to make me work under his instruction, since later on today, when he would find out about his "special executive" promotion, he would learn about my involvement and give me flexibility to work on the marriage program activities.

I hear the elevator open from behind me, so naturally I stand, turning to greet my new "supervisor".

He stepped off the elevator and walks up to me.

I bow and smoothly introduce myself accordingly. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Kougami, I am Haruna Amemori, I look forward to working under your supervision."

He bows back, and smiles. "Nice to meet you too, and likewise." When I stand up straight he looks into my eyes and his face hardens into an expression. Not in an aggressive way, more like, a pleasantly suprised face.

"I've...seen you before, at...Long Island. That bar down in-"

I look back at him and then pretend to act somewhat taken back. "Ah, that's right, I remember."

"You were with CEO Sanno..."

I look away for a split second then return my gaze to him. I had forgotten that he had seen me with Sanno.

"Ah, yes." I admit. He had clearly seen me on that day, as I had seen him.

He nods and points towards the elevators for us to leave.

We get to the bustling Education floor, everybody was working visibly hard. As Mr. Kougami walked passed his colleges, he nodded at them and smiled, to some he'd whisper a small 'hey' to.

When we get to the back of the office, there was an empty desk beside a row of occupied ones. More interns that where there look up from their desk as they see me arriving.

Kougami stops short and I stop with him, all the interns stand and bow at there senor.

"Good afternoon, Mr.Kougami." Many of them said quietly.

"Good afternoon. This here is your new team member." he looks at me and places a hand on my shoulder, ushering me forward to introduce myself.

"Ah- Haruna Amemori, I look forward to working with you all." I give them a business smile.

~*~*~*~

I walk down the now, crowded hallway after the loudspeakers announcement to gather all the employees, resounded within the large corporate building. Some of my colleagues had offered to walk me to the auditorium, but I had turned them down. I wanted to learn my way around here myself.

I seemed to blend right in with everyone surprisingly well. It sounds funky, but I was actually worried about not being able to do so. I wonder why?

I'm just as human as they are, aren't I?

The hallways were really crowded, and honestly, they were starting to make me feel claustrophobic, so I decided to stay a little behind to avoid the waves of people.

Among the countless employees that walked past me, I felt a homey vibe come from almost every single one of them. The cheerful, carelessness of conversation that flowed within the familiar groups, seemed so far from the news that they were about to receive.

Mr. Sanno had truly built his company to accommodate its employees, and anyone, even a stranger from the streets who knew no history about the company, could probably sense it.

By the time I got into the enormous auditorium, most of the seats were already taken, so I had to scan thoroughly to find one.

"Ah..."

I spot a seat at the very end of a middle row, and almost being the only person left without one, I rushed towards it.

The assembly starts as soon as everyone is seated.

The introductions went on and the video that Mr.Sanno had prepared began playing, naming off "the special executives".

The first, Yamato Kougami, from the Education Services Group.

Next, Ren Shibasaki, a blonde man that seemed to know Mr.Kougami. If not for his last name I would have completely thought he was foreign.

Asahi Kakouyin, from Lifestyle Products Group. A tall brunette with a powerful presence.

"Fourth, Kai Fujisawa from the IT Solutions Group..." Emotionless looking man.

"Fifth from the Finance Group, Hiroto Chitose..." A smug grin played out on his face as he waved at all the ladies.

"Junta Nikaido, from the New Businesses Group." A young and promising looking man.

Each man walked up respectably as their name was announced. They all looked pretty confused, at least to some extent. I tuned out as I sank into my thoughts.

What if Miss Yanemoto ended up not accepting anyone from the CEO's pick? I desperately hoped that that wasn't the case, I'd lose my job, and the only hope to get another. Not only that, but Mr. Sanno's only request would be...

No... don't start thinking negatively now...

Hayami's voice resounded in a muffled quality in my mind as he began to introduce Miss Yanemoto for the 'MVP' award.

"From the Lifestyle Products Group, Fumiko Yanemoto." Was all that entered my ears with clarity.

I look up at the sound of the very feminine name. Expecting a feminine girl, my eyes stop on the small frame of the CEO's granddaughter.
