December 2018,

Usual routine, usual torture, there seemed to be no escape from that monotony, that assiduous and linear life, too much inside the box. It didn't take Himari years to feel at ease, more: she took the train to reach Shibuya from the farthest suburbs every morning at 8:15 without ever delays, setbacks, any opportunity missed on the way, arriving at her gaming company by 9:00. Usual black coffee, without sugar or at most a cube - that was the turning point in her life - and then sitting down at her desk and preparing draft after draft of different projects. That the work made her day easier was partly worth it, it was pleasant to draw, define, model, but the fun was less when the delivery times were tight and no one had time to appreciate even the simplest illustration or when they gave assignments so far out of her personal tastes that he felt like his hands were itchy all day.

«Shimizu Himari, right? Please, take some», one of her colleagues, who had recently joined the company, handed her a slice of cake during the break and Himari's expression could match that of a little girl on her birthday, devouring it instantly. Among her fellow artists she stood out for her somewhat ''unusual'' ways, she often appeared reckless or childish but was described by everyone as one of a kind.

«Have you seen the director's suit? It takes courage to go out like that», commented the frivolous colleague, almost making her spit out the cake.
Those were the moments that kept her going, small and casual, between work and home, when she wasn't swallowed up by a crowd or by thoughts. On such occasions, precious, unforgettable memories flashed in her mind, leaving her dreamy and with a cheeky smile without having time to notice.

But the festive air in the room was dampened by the arrival of a colleague with a newspaper in his hand and a tired, worn face, who stammered incoherent sentences without considering anyone else. Himari caught some details highlighted in the newspaper, regarding yet another scam, yet another attack, this time almost in broad daylight; the small criminal organizations no longer seemed to fear anything, they seemed to enjoy seeing the citizens collapse in fear.

Himari's dull gaze slowly rose towards the standing figure of her colleague, breathing heavily and surrounded by the others. Those events brought her back down to earth, which is why she was still there after years and shouldn't have complained about a more than stable position, about such boredom, given how fatal the external stimuli could become.
He remembered well how it was at the time, as kids you didn't think about the consequences that much; they slipped away like drops of water in a storm, until the thunder came. Even though she had gotten involved in petty crimes, at the time it was really almost indifferent, she could hear that roar in the distance but she was never afraid of lightning. She should have limited herself to watching the rain from behind opaque glass like now but she felt like a protagonist and danced in the rain, feeling the inevitable nostalgia for it.
She missed those times of joy and tears, but where she felt real emotions and above all where she was there. It seemed like an eternity had passed.
