Two Year Later...

"Where do babies come from?" Mikasa asked innocently, she was now eleven years old and have gotten use to living in the underground. Levi and Furlan being her new family and looking out for her while she cared for them as well. Gaining her own room and using Levi old shirts while getting trousers that fit her better along with newish shoes. Using Furlan old shirts as her new nightgowns at night. 

"Didn't you already know that, I thought you knew that ... why doesn't she know that" Furlan replied in a slight panic, sweat falling from his forehead before turning to Levi for answers. Furlan and Levi now being sixteen themselves and gotten use to Mikasa being in their lives. Both rather proud over the little lady she was becoming and glad to teach her the unknown before letting her help out with their "jobs" by letting her deliver any payment/food to those who helped out or those they looked after. 

"She's lived with us for two years and how did we not notice she didn't know that subject already. Is that normal at this age, I mean I was taught about it from day one .. is this not normal for children? Are failing at bringing her up now? I'm not cut out for this bull-crap" Levi ranted back, turning pale as he didn't want to be one the stuck explaining the birds and bees to Mikasa who seemed smart enough to know how to survive and yet never learnt about babies. 

"Father was going to let the doctor tell me but the kidnappers showed up instead. I didn't think it was important since you two never talked about starting a family and passing on family secret skills. But than when I went to drop off the money to those who helped you with the job a couple days ago .. someone mentioned it" Mikasa mumbled as carried on cross stitching a couple of ocean waves on Furlan handkerchief after seeing them in one of his books. 

"Urr well, we're still a little young to think about starting a family. Well, some our age might already be a parent or doing such things with someone. It's just .. you're a little young but I guess you should know about it" Furlan awkwardly spoke, rubbing his neck as he wasn't sure how to explain such a subject. Most in the underground learn from a young age by seeing it all around them and the type of jobs women can take that's rather limit to being a whore or helper to a small shop. Meaning, they didn't really have to be told the fully story but learnt over it slowly as they grew up and listened to drunks speaking over it. But mikasa, she had a normal happy family that decided to let the embarrassment of the story fall into the Doctor hands. 

"Hang on, it got mentioned to you? By who? Did they try anything?" Levi spoke up, an angry look filling his eyes and his hands turning into fists.

"Not really, they agreed I would be a right charmer once I grown up and my body develops into a young women. They think I'll have all the men drooling over me and could have my pick over any and all men once I'm grown up. Even marry a rich man and have his babies, buy my way out of the underground but I could have some real fun with the men from the underground before I leave. My parents always said I'll be a real looker once I'm older, charming myself my own prince charming and have a child but they never explained how a child works. Do you know?" Mikasa explained as she placed the handkerchief down on the table beside her chair, leaving the needle to lay on top.

Levi calming down once he heard no one tried anything but he still wasn't happy with the lads speaking such a way near Mikasa or talking over her doing such things when she's older either. Mikasa was smart and strong, she didn't need a rich man to carry her away to a better life or any man to treat her like nothing but a prize they won. She could be and doing anything she wanted in his eyes and he wouldn't let just any man play with her for a good time unless he actually loved her and would stick with her. Mikasa didn't need to be played with or left behind once someone was done with her or for her to be locked up like a rare jewel. She had to be free and until she was, he would try his best to keep her away from any type of chains life threw at her.

"Well, we do know but I'm not sure how to explain it to you. It's a rather serious and natural thing but It's embarrassed for one to speak over. Well, it is for me anyway. But don't worry, it's nothing to be embarrassed over or anything bad. Just .. um .. I don't know how to handle this" Furlan weakly smiled as he looked to Mikasa, trying to keep her calm but losing his own calm and falling to the embarrassment rather quick.  

"Why don't you take some food to Rose, she's pregnant now and needs a little bit extra to keep strong and keep the baby healthy. Why not ask her over pregnancy and anything to do with puberty?" Levi offered as he looked to Mikasa before glancing to Furlan who bighted up at the idea of throwing Mikasa at someone else to explain the baby talk and anything a girl would need to know. 

"Do you think Rose will tell me, she's seemed grumpy lately" Mikasa replied unsure as she stood up, ready to grab some of the extra bread and head out. 

"Say it's repaying the favour to me over her ex, she'll tell you for sure. Do you want me to walk you over to her house, it's just five minutes away but you don't like walking past the old pub .. right?" Levi offered as he went to walk over to the coat hanger, lifting up her red shawl to place around her shoulders before he went for his own coat. Mikasa knew to use her shawl whenever she left, it became her favourite thing she owned and Levi took some pride in getting it for her when he noticed the air was getting a little chilly for her bare arms whenever she walked with him or Furlan or both during the evenings.   

"I'll go alone, I'll just slip through the alley way like normal. It's quicker too" Mikasa answered, letting Levi place her shawl around her while she stayed holding the bit of bread. 

Levi just nodding along, making the shawl was on her properly before stepping back and ready to open the door. If he wasn't going to walk with her, he'll at least watch her walk down the road a little and be able to step out if anyone tried anything. 

"The alley way?" Furlan spoke up like a worried mother making Mikasa slip out the door rather fast.

"Bye" Mikasa called back before hopping down the stairs and rushing away before she got grabbed and dragged back. Earning her a stern lecture over the dangerous and how she's only eleven making her still an easy target for bad people, she's heard it enough times from Furlan to know every single lecture by heart. Sure, If Levi gave her a real warning or disappointed look, she knew she did wrong but for now the alley ways were her short cuts and secret paths. They were quick, sneaky and easy to use and she knew both Levi and Furlan used them during work as well. 

"She's gotten brave, I wouldn't even walk those alley ways without you when I was her age .. I still didn't use them by myself until I was thirteen and knew you'll be waiting at a meet up point. Are you sure we're doing the right thing in letting her wonder, she wasn't born in the underground like us. She doesn't know the true dangerous just yet or how to survive fully on her own .. what if something happens?" Furlan nervously spoke, worry in his eyes as he walked over to the still opened door where Levi stood watching Mikasa fade further and further in the distance.

"Mikasa might not have been brought up here but she can handle herself. I hate to admit it but she's more like me than I'll like to admit and yet, she's nothing like me at the same time. She knows the dangers, the risks and knows when to fight and when to run. She's practice fighting with me and she's good already, close to my own level if I keep letting her train with me. But, she's also longing for the same freedom as us, she wants to spread her wings and fly and she wants to find a home where she'll truly belong. We've given us a place to belong but she knows, she won't always be an equal to us because she wasn't born down here. She has heart, she holds hope still and she see's a person soul .. something I can't do" Levi admitted calmly, his arms crossed as he stayed staring where he last saw Mikasa knowing she'll be okay and if not, she knew how to escape from trouble or to fetch him for help. Something he could never do, ask for real help while she knew her strengths and weakness. Biting down her own pride to ask for help when needed and stepping in when she knew he needed help but won't admit it. 

"When did we get so old" Furlan joked, shaking his head playful.

"Mikasa can make anyone age quickly, who knew living with a little lady could be hard. Just image what she'll be like as a full grown women, we might not survive" Levi joked making Furlan chuckle. 

"We're not going to let a single person lay their eyes on her once she's an adult .. aren't we" Furlan finally asked in defeat and Levi just nodded in agreement.

"We might have became doting fathers instead of big brothers" Levi admitted as he stepped back, closing the door. 

"I am a doting brother but you .. I won't label yourself as a brother or a father. Yours and Mikasa bond is something else, something special" Furlan answered with a smug grin, a knowing look in his eyes that he won't share with either Mikasa or Levi anytime soon. 

Some Hours Later...

"Welcome home, Mikasa. How did the talk go or should we pretend today never happened?" Furlan called out from the bathroom as he was stuck washing the dirty clothes today as Levi cleaned the living room.

"Mikasa?" Levi asked as he turned to the young girl who was shakily placing her shawl up and sliding her feet free from the old boots she wore. 

"I'm going to die" Mikasa admitted in horror, her whole body shaking as Levi just stared at her with wide eyes, Furlan popping his head out of the bathroom in worry.

"W-What did Rose tell you?" Furlan nervously asked, wondering if asking an ex whore who was getting her life back together after her ex who was once an costumer broke up with her and ran away with all her money, maybe she was a bag idea to explain sex ed to Mikasa. Rose was a sweet lady normally but she was still rather angry and against all men apart from Levi and Furlan since they've looked after her more than once before her ex became apart of her life. They're weren't friends by comrades?

Levi and Furlan had became guardians in the underworld as they looked after everyone and anyone, even those forgotten by god himself. They did their jobs, asking for unneeded extra crew members just to help them gain some money and food without giving it to them like charity work. They knew other's still held pride and didn't want to just be given things in life even when they might die the next day without any food. 

"She was nice, she told me how babies are made and the basics. Then she talked over puberty and that's when she started getting annoyance and scary. I'm going to die, once a month my body is going to try and kill me  ... I'm dead" Mikasa shakily spoke, still pale in the face making Levi and Further share a look before turning back to her.

"No, no, no, oh god no. You're not going to die and you're body won't try killing you, it's just an expression. I promise. It might hurt but no more than when you have growing pains or something .. right Levi" Furlan quickly spoke in a caring voice, rushing over to Mikasa to try and calm her down before she cried.

"Urg, I don't know about that one. We can't say it's going to be all candy and flowers not when we both know it's not always easy to deal with for a whole week. I'm surprised women can do normally things during it, seems like being eaten by a titan is much nicer than dealing with that crap" Levi answered honestly, gaining a glare from Furlan as Mikasa tensed up even more. 

"Okay, why don't we make a nice cup of tea and I'll explain it even more but a little clearer over the facts. You don't need to fear anything that Rose or Levi may have said" Furlan weakly smiled, stroking Mikasa hair a little as he looked to her. 

"She said that pregnancy isn't as bad as dying each month but it's still painful and will mess up my life forever. She said a man will **** me and ****  *** *** *** **** ********** ****** ***** **" Mikasa started to cry, Furlan taking her hands in his before listening in shock over everything Rose told Mikasa. Clearly a still angry Rose towards her ex was not the best choice to teach Mikasa anything before she laid the lies and horrors on thick and even Furlan was now scared for Mikasa a little even though he knew none of the extra would happen to Mikasa. 

"Okay, cuddle time .. we all like cuddle time. Let's calm down and blank that from our memories and we'll tell you the right stuff you need to know without any of us having nightmares later" Furlan muttered back, standing up and picking up a still horrified Mikasa. 

"Hang on, how can **** ******** ******* ***** even happen. I mean I would pay to see ***** ***** ****** ************ **************. Wait, how do **** ***** ******** **************** *************. And Rose just told you that those things happen? Holy shit, I think we've been living in the normal life for once" Levi replied back impressed and Furlan gave him a warning look.

"You calm Mikasa down, I'll make us some tea and no talking about what Rose to her. She's traumatised more than when she got kidnaped" Furlan huffed back, walking over to an unready Levi before shoving Mikasa at him and storming over towards the kitchen.

"Look, I night everything Rose has just taught you sounds terrifying but most of that will never happen and is just Rose upset rambles. She won't have said anything she did to you if she was in a better mood. Meaning, you don't need to worry over anything she said. Sure, the baby making is true along with what happens when you become a young women but nothing else will ever happen. I'm sure it won't" Levi sighed, walking over to the sofa and trying his best not to drop Mikasa before falling down on the sofa and sitting up the best he could with her on his lap.

"Positive it was all bullshit" Mikasa mumbled like a child into his shoulder.

"Positive and even if some of it wasn't bullshit, I'm sure you could handle it. Your Mikasa after all, if you've delt with living with Me and Furlan all this time, you can handle anything" Levi replied honestly, stroking Mikasa hair knowing she liked it and it always helped to calm her after a nightmare. 

"Rose also taught me about morning wood .. how do men grown wood? It doesn't sound normal and apparently one of the main cures is becoming friendly with a right hand. How can a hand turn wood into flesh, it doesn't make sense" Mikasa rambled about as the curious child she was sometimes, Levi freezing up as Furlan could be heard choking on air in the kitchen.

"That's a talk for another day" Levi awkwardly answered, patting her head as he wasn't going to explain this one either. 

"Can I be a part of the look out crew tonight during your job?" Mikasa asked hopeful, she knew they kept telling her she wasn't allowed to help with the real work of their jobs but after such an awful day she hoped to at least be on look out in the safe area.

"Sure, you'll be on look out with Yan. You like Yan, he's got an iffy leg but you still play with him, don't you. He likes playing chess with you, rather pleased when you improved in the games thanks to him, he's becoming a proud uncle over you. Plus, you like chatting with him and sometimes he get's creeped on being on look out alone, you'll help him keep calm while covering our backs .. right?" Levi answered without missing a beat, happy to skip the other conversation and speak over a new one. Even if he just agreed over Mikasa helping them on a job for once instead of just letting her pass on any money or food to the helpers the next day. He knew with Yan, she'll be safe and kept out of the way from any real danger at least. 

"LEVI!" Furlan yelled out like an angry wife since they both agreed to never let Mikasa hands get dirty in the underground and why look out was normal rather safe and clean, it could become dangerous at any moment. 

"Do you want to tell her about morning woods or want her to be on look out tonight and just watch her secretly be excited over helping for once. Your move" Levi called back without any regret over his choose. 

"Just make sure to put a vest on under your shirt tonight, it's a chilly night and we won't want you catching a cold" Furlan replied without a second thought as he looked to Mikasa who gave a serious nod. 

"But keep out of trouble, don't start anything or come running towards us until we collect you. Understood" Levi sternly spoke as he turned his head to look at Mikasa who went completely serious before nodding in understand. 

Later that Night at Eleven at night...

"You lied to Levi?" Yan asked in horror as he glanced to Mikasa who sat beside him on the stone wall, both keeping any eye out for anyone passing by who wouldn't normally or shouldn't be heading in the direction where Levi and Furlan was working.

"Yep, it was rather easy. Rose told me that any embarrassed or awkward position man would agree to anything if you hold the right blackmail. Apparently, being an innocent women is one of them" Mikasa answered with slight pride over cheating her way into helping tonight.

"So, Rose never told you anything that bad or scary" Yan asked with a raised eyebrow, wondering if he should fear Mikasa more than Levi from now on.

"No, she did. She really is angry and scary still but I wasn't as frightened as I acted. I remembered how Furlan and Levi reacted when I asked over babies and well, making a male uncomfortable enough to make him agree to any request just for you to stop was the perfect plan. I mean, It got me on look out with you, soon I'll be using odm gear with them and helping with real jobs" Mikasa explained, swinging her legs and a true hidden smile on her lips as she looked to the sky, more live caved ceiling. 

"Geez's, I feel bad for Levi and Furlan if they've got to handle you from now on. Just take care, mikasa. Wouldn't want to end up like Icarus" Yan warned with a caring smile, patting Mikasa head a little.

"Who's Icarus?" Mikasa asked confused, tilting her head a little.

"He was trapped on an island, to escape he was given a pair of wings made by Wax. He was warned not to fly too close to the sun or they'll melt but he didn't listen. He was free and the feeling took over him, he flew closer and closer to the sun and his wings melted" Yan explained calmly, a smile on his lips as he use to like learning all type of meanings when he was Mikasa age.

"I've already had my wings melted once, I won't ever let that happen again. Not when I have Levi and Furlan now, I won't ever get close to the sun" Mikasa stubbornly answered making Yan give a sad smile before nodding in understanding. 

"Don't worry, I won't tell Levi or Furlan over you tricking them. As long as you carry on playing our weekly game of chess. You might be winning against me in a couple years" Yan grinned, playfully nudging Mikasa as she nodded. 

"So, think I could ever use that uncomfortable trick on someone to give me a free beer?" Yan whispered hopeful as he leaned closer to Mikasa ready to learn her ways.

"If I could trick Levi, you can trick anyone" Mikasa promised like an wise old man.
