Moriah—
I stepped into Nicole's room, planning on staying there for the day. I handed Brittany a plastic bowl of macaroni and cheese.
It had been weeks now. Joel and Luke were currently in Kentucky doing a couple of shows. I had stopped touring for awhile, wanting all my attention on the two girls.
Nicole was still in a coma, but Brittany was healing. She was out of the cast, and now only had a brace. Her shoulder was still the sling though.
"How are you today?" I asked, sitting down.
Brittany shrugged, "Okay, I guess."
"Is that the truth?" I questioned, knowing full and well that Brittany would tell a little fib so we didn't worry about her. However, I saw past it all the time.
She sighed, "I'm losing hope, Moriah. I don't think that Nicole will ever wake up." She took a shaky breath and wiped at her eyes. "I'm scared to lose her. That was always my biggest fear; losing her and my parents."
I smiled slightly, "You won't lose her. I bet, right now that Nicole is fighting for her life so she can get back to you. Your relationship with her is something special, and needs to be cherished."
Brittany nodded slightly, sighing to herself. I watched as she popped open the lid on the bowl, and then picked up a white plastic fork. She remained quiet as she ate the lunch I gave her. Sometimes, it hurt me to see her in this much pain.
You could see it in her eyes, that light in her blue eyes were slowly dimming. It made me wonder if she had full faith in God.
"Why did you and Joel want us?" Brittany asked, looking to me.
"Honestly, we weren't given a choice, but I'm happy that I'm your foster parent. I know that I can't replace your family. Joel and I only want you to know that we're here, and we'll support you." I stated, "I know something like this hard, and I can't even imagine how hard it is for you. I'd go crazy if I lost my family."
Brittany sighed, "I'm almost there."
~*~*~
I followed Brittany into her room, her room being purple and white; her walls full of posters. A guitar stood in the corner of her room, next to a book bag.
"Sorry that my room's a mess. I was struggling to pack before we went to Disney." Britt muttered.
I picked up one of the frames on her desk, it being a picture of her family. I easily recognized her and Nicole; but being younger. Her parents were in the picture as well, then a young boy.
"Who's the little boy?" I asked, showing Britt the picture.
She smiled sadly, "My little brother, Jeremiah. He was six when he passed. He had cystic fibrosis, and he drowned when he was sleeping."
"I'm sorry," I murmured.
"Nicole was closest to him, and it her the hardest." She shrugged.
Quietly, she sat something down then left her room. I followed behind her, watching as she traveled down the hallway. She sniffled, opening another door.
This room was blue, with car stickers and toys still scattered over the room.
"Was this his room?" I questioned softly.
Brittany swallowed and nodded, "Yeah. I still remember that day. Mom and dad were supposed to be waking me up for school, I was in the sixth grade. Instead I woke up to mom screaming and crying. My parents were so heartbroken, that his death almost ended their marriage."
"Come here," I whispered, allowing her to hug me. Brittany cried into my shoulder as I held her against me.
"It's all so hard," she whimpered.
"I know, love. I know." I mumbled, giving her a gentle squeeze. "Just pray, He carries us through it all."
Brittany nodded, sniffling even more as she choked back sobs. I sighed, continuing to hug her and gently rub her back.
I really do hope that she sees that God has a plan and that everything is in control. I pray that God gives her the strength to get through this.

"Hey, honey."
I looked up at my husband as he entered the room, laying his large hand on my shoulder. He smiled softly, kissing my forehead.
"Hey, babe." I smiled.
"How is she?" Joel asked, motioning to Brittany.
"I wish I could say that she's doing better, but she's not." I sighed, "I'm worried, Joel. If she loses Nicole, it'll kill her. She had a little brother that she lost a couple years ago."
"God is watching over her, all we can do is pray. Pray that God gives her the strength and continues to show her love." He stated, "She won't lose Nicole. I have faith in the girl."
I nodded, "Of course."
Joel came around, and took a seat next to me. I sighed, laying my head against his shoulder. He smiled slightly, pressing another kiss to my forehead.
"So, she really had a little brother?" Joel asked.
"Yeah, he was six when he passed. He looked so happy in that picture." I sighed, "Britt said that drowned in his sleep. Cystic fibrosis."
"Man," he muttered, "That's rough. Only time heals those wounds."
"My heart breaks for her." I mumbled.
"We have our fans praying for them. Luke and I asked them to keep the girls in their prayers."
