Chapter 40 | The Right Guy
"Princess, princess! Come on, princess!" Keith poked me for the thirtieth time in ten seconds.
"Stop it!" I yelled at him frustratedly.
"You can't be made at me for telling on you. You knew those cookies weren't meant for you or anyone of us." He said.
I rolled my eyes at him. "Well I'm sorry that I couldn't walk up to your front door and sing off-key Christmas carols." I shoved my finger at his chest.
"Come on, princess. You would've gotten some after dinner."
"Stop calling me princess and no, I wanted them then." I said.
My phone buzzed and I checked to see it was a message from Brianna saying she and mom be late. I read it out loud so Keith would know too.
Yesterday, I stayed at his house while everyone returned to their homes. Since everyone was so tired they felt it convenient to leave me here since I have to be carried around. Hopefully I'll get an electronic wheelchair which may be more embarrassing but at least I can move around more easily.
"Should I change your bandages?" he asked. "Princess," he drawled.
I would've punched him if I had the energy but I chose to ignore him once again.
"Remember I told you there was a surprise for you. A secret I was keeping," I rolled my eyes as he started this again. Keith was such an attention seeker. "If you talk to me again then I'll tell you what it is."
He got my attention.
"What is it?" I asked as I raised my eyebrow at him. The corners of his lips quirked up as his strategy worked.
"Oh, so now you're interested?" he asked. "Of course, I am." I stated.
"Let's change your bandages first." He said as he reached over for the first aid box.
"No! That's my mom and sisters job." I told him.
My body was in really bad conditions. I saw the bruises and scratches and it horrifed me. I couldn't let anyone else see it. I didn't let Bellamy see it either even though he was curious to know why it took ages to clean and change my bandages. I couldn't make them feel more bad for me or disgusted by how my body looked.
"They're going to be late and what if you get infected?" he argued. I rolled eyes at him.
"Nothings going to happen in a few hours." I said.
"Well nobody changed them last night which means you've had the same damn thing wrapped around you for at least a day now. If you asked me, I think somethings already starting to happen." He said.
That did get me scared because my bandages did feel damp. "Fuck you." I muttered under my bed. He heard me though and grinned. I glared at him as he came closer to me and took out the ointments and other things.
"I don't think you should do this. You already give me weird looks when I helpless and this will make you feel worse." I tried one last time.
"I don't care about how you look, princess. As long as you're alright, that's all that matters." He said as he looked at me in the eyes. He helped me into a sitting position and then started.
His hands traveled to the hem of my shirt and I couldn't feel more nervous. He raised my shirt up and slowly all the damage was being exposed. He stopped till my breast and thats where I held onto my shirt awkwardly as my other hand that was in a cast restricted many movements.
He started off with the tiny cuts and I noticed how his eyebrows creased as he concentrated.
"You can stop if it's too much." I suggested as the stinging started.
"It's not. Just try not to move too much," he said. "I'll try but it stings a lot." I said.
"You're strong, princess." He said. I couldn't help but crack a smile at that.
"Am I ever going to find out why you never say my name? You know Blake is much shorter than Princess." I asked.
"In a while." He murmured as he took the bigger bandage off my ribs. I let out a shaky breath as cool air hit it. Keith threw the spoilt bandage in the garbage and I tried so hard not to vomit.
I was watching every move of his so carefully that I could see his hands shivering. I was ready to scream at the pain but instead of dabbing the wound he put his hand down and looked at me.
"Just close your eyes and I promise it won't hurt too much." He said. Without putting up a fight, I closed my eyes.
All of a sudden I felt his lips on mine but before I could react I felt a pain on the wound. My eyes remained closed as his lips parted mine and I could feel a stinging in my ribs. My good hand clasped onto his shoulder and squeezed it in anger and pain. He hushed a little but didn't say anything.
"We were meant to be together." He said. So that's what this is about?
"You were too late." I said harshly.
"Well you weren't supposed to be with my fucking best friend either." He said, his time he sounded harsh.
"I didn't know that Keith and you can't just kiss your best friends girlfriend either." I snapped.
"Well it must suck that I slept with her first." He said. This time I purposely jabbed my nails into his shoulder. "What was that for? I'm almost done." He said.
I opened my eyes and found him wrapping the wound with a fresh bandage. Ours eyes met and I could see the hint of happiness in them.
"Jerk." I said as I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Your clever jerk." He said. "You're not my-" I stopped when I realized I tried to make an attempt at getting up. He laughed and set me back on the bed.
"Now for the cut on your leg." He said. "Brianna told us everything." He explained when I gave him a confused look.
"So you were just pretending?" I asked. The door opened and Bellamy entered.
"Hey," he said to both of us. He did a bro hand shake thingy with Keith and leaned down to kiss my lips. Now this felt right.
I saw Keith move away as Bellamy handed me a bouquet of white roses and lots of chocolates. I grinned as I took the chocolates while he set the flowers next to me.
"We're you getting your bandages changed?" he gestured to the first aid kit that was in Keith hand.
"Uh, Yea, but-" I was unsure of how to answer that.
"I'll take it from here," he smiled at Keith and took the box from him. Keith gave him a tight smile and glanced at me before leaving the room.
"So, how are you doing?" he asked like he did every morning. "Good," I mumbled.
I untied the waistband of my sweatpants and Bellamy helped slide them off a bit. He got to work immediately and I was amused to see how his face didn't change even when he saw my leg. He gently applied ointment to the bruises and clean the cuts.
"I just hope these marks face away." I said after a while of silence.
"They will but you look beautiful anyway." He lightly kissed my thigh as he finished up and I could feel that area burning a bit.
"How's everything going?" I asked as he slid my sweatpants up. "Has anyone contacted you?"
He went to the bathroom to wash his hands but he was still listening to me. "I don't think you need to worry anymore. They won't come back."
I raised my brow at how certain he sounded. It was too good to be true. "How can you be so sure?"
He sighed as he walked over to me. He stood next to me and bent down to cup my cheek, slowly rubbing my cheekbone with his thumb. I leaned my head towards his hand.
"Believe me Jane, if they know what's best for them, they won't be coming back." He said.
I was confused because I knew how powerful Trace and his gang were. We didn't stand a chance against them. Even if we ran away they would always be in our tail. It made me question why he would say that. "Bellamy, did you do something? I won't be that hurt if Keith lied to me but I would be if you did. So please don't lie." I begged.
He kissed the tip of my nose and smiled at me. Yet his smile didn't stretch across his face like it usually did, neither did his eyes light up.
"Babe, I know better than lying to you. Someone may have anonymously dropped hints to the police and with your mom on the case, the police may just find the real culprit."
"Aren't you a smart-ass?" I said jokingly. A smirk appeared on his face as he brought the wheelchair close.
I was beyond satisfied with his answer and I couldn't appreciate him enough for everything he was doing.
"If we weren't dating when all of this happened, you would've been kept out of it in the first place." I said as he placed me on the wheelchair.
"Not really, I would've helped out anyways. They were after my girl..." He said.
I was grinning like an idiot at that and it stayed when we went downstairs.
"Thanks for joining us. Rosy was just about to attack your gifts." Julie said as we stopped by the tree. A small blush appeared on my face as the adults had a fishy smile on their faces.
"And if she spared them then I'm sure my kid would go after them." Nora laughed with the others.
"Mom!" Keith exclaimed and we laughed harder. I stopped where my presents were stacked and Bellamy rushed over to his. Apparently Keith had stolen one of his gifts and they were fighting like children over it.
"Give it back you flower!" Bellamy said. I laughed at the censored language he used.
"No way doof! Finders keepers." Keith said as he rolled away from Bellamy.
I looked at the adults and they seemed to be least bothered by both of them. Natasha had a smile craved on her face as she watched the fight I'm front of us. Rosy was busy with her presents, one was literally covered in transparent tape and the little girl was almost about to pull her hair out just trying to find where the tape ended.
"They've been doing this since they were kids," Natasha told me.
"You guys spend every Christmas together?" I asked her. A little assumed because I was so used to spending Christmas along with my dad. This was such an overwhelming experience for me.
She nodded her head and for the first time today, made eye contact with me. "Hey, I know you were crying last night and if it's about your dad then I'm sorry. If there's anything any of us could do it make you feel better-"
I cut her off as my mind reminded me of the position we were in. "You've done enough." I said whilst giving her a tight smile. She slightly frowned as she turned her head away.
"I'm serious now. Jane gave it to me, I want my present back now." Bellamy glared at Keith as he clenched onto Keith's collar. I saw about to intervene but Keith rolled his eyes and handed him the small gift box.
Bellamy muttered something which was only understood by Keith since he mocked him I'm response. They both went back to opening their presents.
I opened Natasha's present first and realized she gave my Zayn's merchandise; I gave her the same things, just different types.
Next I opened Rosy's present to me which was a picture of me and her dressed as Ballerinas. It was truly adorable and she ran away from me when I pinched her cheeks. She also gave me different candies which widened my smile.
I was confused to see the present Keith gave me. "Cassettes? Please don't tell me you're channeling your inner Hannah Baker." I said with a dry laugh.
He looked at me as if I were dumb. "It's the surprise." He said. This time I rolled my eyes at him. "What a waste, I actually expected something better." I complained.
"He gives the worst shit ever." Bellamy commented.
"Language!" I heard Nora and Julie say in unison.
"Jeez woman, there's more." I was about to dig in deeper for other things in the box when my sister and mom made an entrance with bright smiles on their face, bringing in a bit of cold air with them.
After greeting them Brianna turned to me. "Oh! We're right on time. Open my gift!" she pointed to a box which was being pushed in my Keith dad.
"Uh, I'm not sure I can do that with one hand, I'm already clawing through the small boxes." I pointed at the scrap around me.
"Just pull the ribbon," Brianna said boredly.
I pushed myself there and pulled on the ribbon. The entire packaging of the large box was undone and an electronic wheelchair was before me.
I deadpanned while everyone laughed hysterically.
"This. Is. Your. Gift." My voice raised as I said each word.
She grinned and nodded her head, clearly unaffected by my tone.
"There's more." She gestured to the small bag in her hand. She walked over to me and gave it to me.
I put it between my legs and teared it off. Again, I was let down.
"You refilled my prescription medicines?" I asked as I observed the contents hoping for something else.
He reaction was still the same and I wondered how much more shameless she could be. "It was very last minute," she chipped in. I threw it towards her and told Bellamy to give me the present I was originally going to give Brianna.
"You deserve coal but for now deal with not getting a present." I said.
She furrowed her brows at me. "But you already got a present and it has my name on it." She defended. I smirked and ripped the name tag off.
Keith, Bellamy and Natasha all made dramatics "ooh" sounds and I enjoyed watching her frown.
"Hey Keith, I got you another present." I said as I tossed him the box.
"Why didn't I get it?" everyone but Keith said. I rolled my eyes because I knew no one would want it and it wasn't appropriate for a six year old girl anyways.
Keith quickly opened the box and I swear he had a genuine smile on his face. "Oh we could use this sometime," he said with a wink.
This time I cringed at what I did. It was definitely a wrong move but I hoped my boyfriend didn't mind me giving his best friend kinky things from Victoria's Secret.
Everyone scrambled around him and Bellamy was the first to notice. He pushed away Rosy by her head and his finger while the girls took their time figuring it out.
"Come on, seriously?" Brianna said while Natasha laughed. I noticed the boys glaring at each other.
"I just wanted mom to find these things on you but I won't give you the satisfaction of using them before or after she finds out." I said.
"Oh my god Blake, that pun though." Natasha said as she doubled over laughing. When I realized what she meant I laughed too.
Brianna tried to take the box from Keith but he swatted her hands away and threatened her. Bellamy raised his brow at me but pointed at the present me gave me. I was saving the best for last because I knew no one could top it off.
"Lets do it together so I don't die of anxiety." I said. He laughed, "Sure."
So at the took of three both of opened the boxes. I had a beautiful golden colored bracelet. I held it in my hand and noticed our names engraved on the inner curve of the bracelet. I looked over at Bellamy and saw a smile on his face as he read our names on the dog tag I gifted him. It wasn't that special but I knew he wanted one for a long time now. I also had a team ready to book tickets for an upcoming game of Bellamy's favorite football team. That was going to be his last Christmas gift though.
"Great, another thing she won't ever take off," Brianna said as means Bellamy kissed each other.
I ignored her and focused on Bellamy. "Thanks, I love it." I told him. He kissed me again and I told feel his smile. "And thanks for the dog tag. It's just what I needed." He said against my lips. I pulled away and looked into his bright brown eyes.
"Unlike some people I go for tags instead of hickies," I joked. He pouted but laughed nevertheless.
"Mommy! It won't open!" Rosy said as she screamed. Bellamy laughed as he watched his sister and I kicked his thigh. "You're so mean!" I exclaimed as I watched the little girl go red in frustration.
Julie gave Bellamy a disappointed look. "Stop being mean to your sister. She's only six." She reminded him.
"And a monster," he sang in a low voice. Julie kept her narrow gaze at him even though she didn't hear what he said, or maybe she did ut didn't want to cause drama with the "big baby." He scowled at me.
"Rose, just open mine." I told her. She smiled and searched for the gift box before holding it up like it was something holy.
"Yay! I bracelet!" she said as she held it in her hands.
"That's a charm bracelet." Natasha explained to Rosy who nodded her head like she was taking orders from the president. "See that?" Natasha said as she pointed at the small ballerina, "that's a charm and you can add more of your choice to it." She said.
Rosy beamed at that and danced around holding it carefully in her hands. "There's a ballerina charm and the letter R charm and rose charm," she sang as she twirled towards me.
Bellamy stopped her verse she could fall on me, that wouldn't have been good for both of us.
"Can you put it on Ballerina?" she asked so sweetly that I couldn't deny her but I had to.
"Sorry, I can't use my other hand right now." I told her.
She looked at the cast on my arm and probably remembered our detailed discussion about it - which was perfectly dumb down to a six year's olds level by Bellamy.
"When I get a boo-boo, mommy kisses it and it feels better." She told me. I carefully nodded my head at her.
"And who kisses it when mommy's nit around?" Bellamy asked. I had to hold back from gawking over the fact that he said mommy which reminded me of the time he said momma. For some reason it sounded so cute when I heard it from him.
"You do." Rosy said to Bellamy. He smiled at looked at me.
"Hmm, so maybe I should kiss your boo-boos." He said as he sent me a wink. I turned my head away from and rolled my eyes.
"Ew! I'm telling mommy!" Rosy said as she ran towards her mom.
The our parents stood from the couch and walked out of the room. Nora said something about their whereabouts but I didn't pay much attention because I was busy admiring the bracelet.
"Let's watch those cassettes," Keith suggested. I snapped out if my thoughts and nodded.
After a while I was sitting next to Bellamy on the couch with my broken leg propped up on the coffee table in front of me. Keith was setting up the things to play the cassette. I was excited to know what thst surprise was.
As the video played, I noticed a small girl with brown running around a familiar place.
"Oh my gosh, that me!" Brianna pointed at the little girl on the screen. Natasha and Keith hushed her and I thought about saving my questions for later because the two siblings really hated noise and commentary between movies or anything or that sort.
Another girl came into frame and I recognized her as me because I had seen my baby picture which were mostly just solo ones.
I realized the setting was that Brianna was trying to play a monster as she made weird "roar" sounds. I was supposed to become sort of princess who was crying for help.
That made sense. I glanced over at Keith and as our eyes met a small smile stretched across his face before he gestured for me to continue watching.
A boy, who was visibly a little older than us appeared and used a hula hoop to destroy the monster. Basically he trapped monster Brianna in the hula hoop and then slowly she died. Actress.
We were ridiculous as kids.
I was trying to recognize the boy but I wasn't so sure until common sense hit me. "Keith, is that you?" I pointed at the boy. Keith nodded without uttering a word or looking me at. Bellamy began to play with my hair as he watched the video.
"You saved the princess! Yippee!" I jumped and clapped my hands in the video. I laughed at myself and so did Bellamy.
"Now you have to kiss me." Little Keith said. In actual I wasn't sure if I should smile or not but in the video I was rather excited and Brianna started to scream "Ew! Cooties!"
"This guy corrupted our minds from the very beginning!" Brianna said in real time. "I agree, why would you say that to a five year old?" I asked him.
He shrugged and I saw a grin forming on his face as his eyes were still on the TV screen. I followed his gaze and I was a little shocked to see what the camera had captured.
"Look here guys," Nora said as little Keith kissed little me on the lips. Woah.
My face was on fire as I realized he was my first kiss. I ain't even known that and if that wasn't enough he was also my first time. I could feel Bellamy burning a hole through the side of my face but it could've been directed at Keith too. Either way I used my hand to cover my face as everyone cooed, except for my boyfriend that is.
"Princess you're missing out on the good part." Keith said. I peaked through my fingers and our kiss was still being filmed. I was five and he was probably eight. Right when we stopped the video ended but I was sure I heard a bit of my dad's voice.
"Hey, where's the rest?" I asked when the screen went blank.
"I couldn't recover the rest." Keith said. "But how did you like it?"
Bellamy pulled me closer to his chest and I rest my head on him as I thought of dad's voice. I hadn't heard it in a while. I kept paying his phone bill so I could hear him when his phone went to voicemail but then I was forced to stop because it was apparently unhealthy.
I ignored Keith's question and asked him another instead. "That sounded like dad. Keith do you have more tapes? Why can't I remember this stuff? Brianna, do we have anything in the attic?" I rambled on.
"Sorry Princess, this was all I could ever find." Keith said and Natasha nodded her head in agreement. My eyes traveled to Brianna in hopes of getting an answer I wanted.
"We don't have shit Blake, Dad's always been a mystery for me." She said.
The atmosphere became gloomy and I couldn't feel more sad. Tears were brimming my eyes but I held them back. Bellamy softly ran his fingers through my hair as I closed my eyes and thought about how different last Christmas was.
"Hey, I'll get the other half of your gift. You're going to love it." I opened my eyes as I heard Keith's voice. He stood up and winked at me before walking away.
Bellamy shifter away from me and when I looked at him he gave me a tight smile, "I'll be right back."
