THE HEARTBREAK CHRONICLES III

Taehyung will never forget the first time his heart broke since Sori had left him for Jungkook. He remembers that night so vividly that he would have endless nightmares of it.

He remembers Jaeun's roommate, Hoseok, who was a mutual friend of theirs, calling him in the middle of the night. His voice was trembling and it sounded like he was crying.

"Jaeun, she's locked up in her bathroom. I tried knocking on her door but she wasn't answering. All I heard was the bathtub tap running and I know that the nervous feeling I have right now is not unsettling, what if—God I hope she's not planning on doing it—Taehyung you need to get here quick."

He remembers swooping sleepy Yoojung into his arms as the two of them head towards his car. He fumbles with the keys, stumbling on his steps before finally making it to the car. Roaring the engine to life, he slams on the acceleration to get to Hoseok's place.

"God—Taehyung, I swear she was completely fine, she looked fine! But when she started looking tired, and when she started falling into a deep trance, I started to worry. When she started skipping meals, I started to worry even more."

"I'll be there as soon as I can, just—keep an eye on her, alright? Yell for her to come out."

He remembers hopping out of the car, barging into Hoseok's flat with Yoojung in his arms. He gently places her down onto the couch and he runs up the stairs to Jaeun's room. He enters to the sight of Hoseok banging on the door, tears streaming down his face. He pushes him aside and successfully kicks the door open. What he sees next breaks his heart; shatters it into pieces.

His eyes fall upon a body submerged underneath the water, and almost instantly, he rushes towards her and pulls her out of the water. He watches her as she starts to shiver, his eyes trailing from her broken expression to her naked, shivering body.

He started to wonder how she could put on a fake facade in front of her kindergarten class, act as if she was okay, make it seem like she's not dying on the inside, and also make the kids think that she's terrified of the day that she won't be the one in front of the class teaching them anymore.

He started to wonder who had made her this way, and why she was much more broken than he was. His brokenness was nothing compared to hers.

And he was bound to find out who killed Jaeun's happiness.

Even if he finds out that he was the one who killed it himself.
