It was the Worst of Times, it was the WORST of Times...

Sydney

I finished the day without speaking once. Turns out that Kenzie was absent today. Which made the day all the more fun for me.

The bell startled me out of my thoughts, signaling the end of the school day. I rushed out of the class to avoid the crowded locker halls as much as possible, only to fight my way through, like a salmon heading upstream. After being bumped countless times, I was able to get my homework from my locker and reach the bus.

I clambered on, and I might have tripped over the stairs. I plopped myself into a seat, and waited in what I swear must have been 1,000 degrees of heat and stink.

Finally, the bus pulled out of the school, and we were on our way. I reached for my cell phone, then remembered that Kenzie's little brat--I mean brother-- had thrown it into a river last week. Did I mention that I didn't like him much?

When I got home, I saw my parents sitting solemnly at the table, next to my backpack. I stiffened, because usually my parents wouldn't be caught dead without a smile on their faces. I rushed upstairs to put my stuff away, and took out my contacts. Mom and dad knew, so I felt okay. I turned on the water to wash my hands before I took them out. Leaving the water on for after, I reached up to delicately remove my contacts. But when I went to put them in their case, I accidentally dropped them down the sink drain. I watched them spiral down, unblocked by anything but the pipes. I sat in a shocked silence for a moment, and then rushed downstairs to my parents. They watched me enter.

"Mom, dad, I just dropped my contacts down the sink again. Since tomorrow is the start of Spring break, could we go get me new ones?" I pleaded.

"Sydney," My dad began, "You're mother and I have thought long and hard about this, and we've decided to stop buying you colored contacts. You should like your eyes just the way they are!" He went to say more, but I cut him off.

"But dad! You know what they did to me in first grade, can't you cut me some slack?"

Mom shook her head, and stared at me.

I ran upstairs, desperate to find an extra pair of contacts, but I couldn't find any. I shut myself in my room, and locked the door. I think it goes without saying that I stayed there for the rest of the day.

Okay, I feel super bad for not updating sooner, and I promise that I'll get better!
