Part 3 Chapter 24

[Part 3: The End Is A New Beginning]

Jack's P.O.V.

It's been nearly a week since Anti was killed. It sucks, it really does because he was one of the closest friends I had ever had. I sigh, twirling the necklace Anti gave me in my hand, feeling tears well up in my eyes.

Now's not the time to be upset Jack. I criticize myself quietly, putting the necklace back around my neck. The world as we knew it was gone.

In the small span of a couple of days, half of the world has been destroyed. Nearly everything we loved and known was either reduced to ashes or gone completely. It was only a matter of time before the very cabin we were staying at, would be destroyed. Most likely with us in it because we are tired of running.

A small hand touched the top of my head causing me to jump. "Whoa whoa, it's just me Jack," Mark's voice says quietly. I glance up at him. His face was still pale from the separation incident. I was still getting use to seeing his brown eyes instead of the red glowing ones of Dark's.

"What do you want Mark?" I ask, sitting back in the small bench swing on the porch. Mark sat down beside me, not speaking for a couple of minutes, staring out at the peaceful surrounding before sighing.

"Jack, I know you're grieving, honestly, I know. Dark is equally upset. I haven't heard anything from him ever since." I sigh.

"That's supposed to make me feel better how?"

"It's..." He sighs. "Look, I'm terrible at these things, but just know-" a violent cough interrupts him, causing me to look away from the swaying trees.

"Mark, are you..?" He smiles weakly.

"I'm fine Jack, don't worry about me." He wipes his sleeve over his mouth, sighing. "I know this may not be a good time to tell you this while you're upset, but Cry and Vinny predicted that we may only have a couple of days before we are dead as well. Do you really want to spend those days grieving?"

The sound of a door opening, followed by happy shouts interrupted what I was going to say to Mark. We both look towards the door and saw Vinny holding Alexa's hand while she was happily bouncing around with a small bucket.

"So we are going to go pick flowers?!" Alexa says excitedly, making me smile a little. Vinny laughs, running a hand through her blue hair. Her smile fades a little as her purple eyes fall on us.

"Did we interrupt something?" She asks, gripping Alexa's hand a little bit as the sun slowly peeks out from behind the clouds, shining against her tan skin. I shake my head.

"No, you didn't interrupt much in all honesty Vinny." I stood up. "What are you two going to do?"

"We're going to collect roses!" Alexa shouts happily, causing Mark to laugh.

"Seriously, Vinny? The world is ending and you guys are going to collect roses?" I said, smiling a little. But as soon as I said that, Vinny's smiles falls a little.

"Well, it's better than sitting around moping all day about how we are going to die." She leans in towards me and says in a soft tone only I could hear. "Besides, Cry and I are starting to suspect that Alexa isn't from this world." My heart stops.

"What do you mean?" I ask, but she doesn't answer my question. Instead she gives me a hard look and says.

"You should come pick roses with us Jack, it'll be fun." But by the look in Vinny's eyes, I knew that my question would be answered if I went with them.
