Chapter 25

First off, Happy New Year guys! We made it to 2017! And I feel a little nervous as my graduation date draws closer and closer. Also, I know a lot of people are going to be confused with this chapter, I'm sorry. It's just an idea that I came up with to finish the series off. Yes, we are DANGEROUSLY close to being done with this entire series. There will NOT be a fourth book. I'm sorry, this will be the last book. But hey, we've had some pretty good times throughout this whole series.

Enjoy!

The birds sang their song as Alexa skips ahead of Vinny and I. I sigh, glancing up at the darkening sky, feeling a little sense of dread creeping up my spine. Not too long ago was it sunny and nice, but now as we walked towards a small clearing where Vinny says there was some rose bushes, the weather slowly was starting to turn bad.

"Vinny," I sigh again. Vinny glances at me before looking back at Alexa who was singing her small heart out while skipping ahead of us still. "How much further do we have to go... I feel very nervous with the sky-"

"Relax Jack," She says, rolling her eyes. "If it rains, so be it. Let it rain. Let it pour for all it's worth, but trust me. This is worth seeing."

"What's worth seeing?" I ask. But Vinny falls silent again, keeping her eyes fixed upon Alexa who was oblivious to the small talk we had.

"Vinny, Vinny!" She cries happily, running back towards us. "I think we are almost there!" I frown as the beautiful scenery slowly starts to fade away towards black, chard up ground and trees. Neither Alexa nor Vinny seemed bothered by it.

What the hell is going on? I thought to myself as my feet scraped against the burnt leaves scattered amongst the ground.

It wasn't until we stood in front of a burnt bush that Alexa says something.

"Vinny!" She cries, freezing in her spot. "It's- it's gone!"

"Alexa," Vinny says softly, bending down and picking her up. "It's okay sweetheart, don't cry. I didn't think that the fire would've reached that far quickly." She says reassuring Alexa.

"What?" I ask, stepping closer, examining the skeleton remains of what use to be the rose bush. Alexa's disappointed whimpers reach me. I sigh, bending down and touching the small burnt stem gently.

Why did you have to be in the way of the flames? I sigh, standing back up again. I glance at Vinny who was holding a crying Alexa.

"Well?" I ask, feeling the wind pick up even more. Above us the sky turns even darker than I imagined it could ever. Vinny sighs.

"Okay," she says, setting Alexa down, who just clings to her leg. The wind whips Vinny's long blue hair everywhere as her dark purple eyes widen. "Jack, what the living hell did you do?!" I frown.

"What're you talking about?"

"I thought you said that you guys don't have powers in this world!" She points to something behind me. I roll my eyes.

"Vinny," I exclaim, turning around. "I was serious I don't have..." I trailed off as my eyes take in exactly what had happened. The exact place where I touched the rose bush's stem held a singular dark  green rose with specks of blue on it. Alexa gasps as she runs forward examining it. Vinny on the other hand, stared in awe.

"Jack, what's going on with one of your eyes?"

"What's wrong with my eyes?"

"Your right eye... the iris... it's bright green!"
