"We're here to watch after the demon children!" I yelled as I ran through the front door of my house with Nathan behind me. We were supposed to be back about fifteen minutes ago, but traffic actually exists. It was rather annoying sitting in traffic, but in the long run I didn't mind it. I didn't particularly want to watch these delinquents, but Adalyn was buying me McDonald's, so that was really the only reason I was doing it.
"It's about damn time," my mom muttered as she ran down the stairs.
I raised a brow when I saw the way she was dressed. She wore a tight dress with a white skirt and a black piece that ruffled, and her black heels were high as they normally were. Her long, blonde hair was curled to perfection, leaving loose waves cascading down her back. Her makeup was done up as well, more so than usual. She looked like a fucking twenty year old, and it pissed me off. How could she be getting so old, but getting prettier. It didn't make sense to me. Aside from that, I knew the reason she wore loose clothing. Her baby bump was very noticeable in this dress, but it was cute. It was still so weird to think that my little brother or sister was swimming around in there.
"Can it, Muffy. We got stuck in traffic," I said to her, throwing my shoes to the floor. Traffic was not the only thing that gave me problems tonight.
My mom just gave me a look.
"Are you pregnant?" Nate randomly asked. He seemed a bit bewildered.
My mom snorted back her laughter. "Yeah. I thought Miss Big Mouth over here would have told you by now!"
"I had more important things to talk to him about, thank you."
"Oh, how did that go?" she asked as she grabbed her coat and purse.
I chuckled. "He's still here, isn't he?"
"Touché. Adalyn, hurry up! Carly is waiting on us!" she yelled up the stairs.
"Where are you guys going anyway?" I asked.
"Somewhere you're not old enough to go," she smirked.
Ah, fuck you, mother.
Before I had the chance to respond Adalyn came running down the stairs. She was wearing a white cocktail dress with lace detailing at the neckline. She wore burgundy colored pumps with them, and her chocolate brown hair was pin straight, reaching just below her breast. She looked just as beautiful as my mom did. She was just a few years younger than her, but it still angered me all the same.
"Why are you two so pretty?" I whined.
"The Lennoxes and the Hughes have wonderful genes," Adalyn smirked. "Why do you think you're so cute?"
I gave her a look and she laughed.
"Okay, we're leaving now. Please be nice to Emma and Noah. They're in the living room watching TV at the moment. If you have any problems please do not call me. There's money in the kitchen for food if any of you get hungry," my mom chimed before running out the front door.
I turned to Adalyn who just shrugged. "Good luck."
She kissed me on the cheek before running after my mom, nearly tripping over her heels in the process. I just laughed and shut the door before heading into the living room with Nate. Just as my mom had told me, Noah and Emma were laying on the couch watching some stupid kid show on Disney Channel.
"Listen here, delinquents," I started. They both looked up at me. "Nathan and I are in charge of you little scrap heaps tonight, so you will do as we say or I will not hesitate to use force!"
"At least now I understand why you use terms such as 'slagger' and 'scrap heap'," Nate mumbled. I shushed him and turned back to the twins.
"So, I'm going to attempt to be nice for one night, but that's only because you two are actually being quiet for once. What would you two want to do tonight? And don't say go out, because we're not," I said to them.
"Can you just watch movies with us?" Emma asked me.
"Sure. What movies do you want to watch?"
"Anything Disney. I know aunt Azalea has a whole bunch of them," she giggled. I rolled my eyes. Curse my mother for being an absolute Disney freak.
"Sure. Let me go get changed. Please watch them," I said to Nate before running out of the living room and up the stairs.
I quickly picked out a pair of black leggings and one of my dad's t-shirts before changing. I threw my hair up into a messy bun and took off all of my makeup before heading downstairs. Even with the smallest amount of it on my face I still couldn't stand the way it suffocated my skin.
By the time I returned back to the living room, Pocahontas was already starting. I could only assume Nate had put it in for the thirteen year old girl. I switched the light off and suddenly the room was filled with darkness. I sat down on the couch beside Nate and Noah, and Nate pulled me to him. I smiled and wrapped my arm around the front of his torso. Shockingly, Noah leaned his head against me. Normally I would have pushed him off of me, but I was feeling too content at the moment, and oddly enough my little cousin added on to that.
The night passed rather slowly, but I didn't mind it at all. I was pretty comfortable being here with Nate, and I even liked spending time with Emma and Noah when they weren't being obnoxious little devils. The four of us ended up watching about three of Emma's beloved Disney movies--Pocahontas, Tinker Bell, and Frozen. That girl was one for the classics. Sometime during the night Nate ordered two pizzas for us. I devoured an entire pizza while Nate split a single one with the twins. You'd think I would be full from my dinner at Olive Garden, but no.
Frozen had just ended so I got up off of the couch and headed over to the little movie thing below the TV. I opened it up and began searching for another movie to watch. It was about midnight, and I probably should have put them to bed, but I decided against it. Anyways, Emma was already fast asleep against Nate; Noah, Nate, and I were the only ones awake.
"What do you want to watch, Noah?" I asked as I turned to him.
"Jurassic World," he answered quickly.
I made a face. "What is with you two and these old movies?"
I turned to retrieve the movie for him, but stopped when I caught a movement out of the corner of my eye. Without another thought I turned my head towards the window and was just in time to see a tall, dark shadow step out of view. Almost immediately watching the movie seemed irrelevant. I was now scared. Someone was outside my house and I hadn't a clue who it was.
"Take them upstairs now," I instructed Nathan. He seemed a bit confused, but didn't have the time to reply before Noah did.
"I don't wanna go to bed, Kay. I wanna watch Jurassic World," he whined.
"No. Please trust me. Take them upstairs now," I said again. A loud bang sounded on the front door and I jumped, as did Nathan and Noah.
"What the hell was that?" Nate asked, clutching a sleeping Emma tightly.
"Somebody is outside and I don't know who it is. It's not anyone I know because I don't hear a car nearby and whoever was outside the window looked rather built," I told him.
Another bang sounded.
"Go upstairs now!" I said through clenched teeth.
Nate wasted no time in picking up Emma and running towards the stairs. Noah followed closely behind him, but I just stayed downstairs. I turned the TV off so that it was completely dark in the room, but luckily I could still see.
Another loud bang sounded and I became even more frightened. I know my mom was just kidding when she said not to call her if I had any problems, and I would call her if that didn't require me speaking out loud. I decided to contact my dad. He may have been working, but I didn't care. I was scared and he was the only one who knew how to calm me down and he could possibly help me figure out what I needed to do.
"Pick up, pick up, pick up," I mumbled.
After a few seconds my father's loud, gruff voice sounded and I was relieved. If only he was here in person right now.
"Kaelyn?"
"Dad, I'm scared. There's somebody fucking trying to get in the house and I don't know what to do," I said through the link. God bless this mental link.
"What? Where is your mother and Adalyn?" he asked. There was now a bit of fear in his voice.
"Partying somewhere. I don't know. It's just me, Nate, and the twins, but I sent them all upstairs," I informed him.
"How long has it been since you've been training?"
"Since before I broke my wrist, and mom has the key to the gun shed so I'm screwed. That's the only reason I'm even remotely scared," I told him.
"Go into the kitchen right now and get a knife or something. I swear this is the last mission I'll ever go on while you two are alive. Somehow you and your mother always seem to get yourselves into trouble when I'm absent," he grumbled.
I shook my head at him but got up and ran into the kitchen. Another loud bang could be heard as I retrieved a chef's knife from its holster and I nearly screamed at the sound of it.
"What was that?" my dad asked as I inched my way back out into the living room.
"I told you someone was trying to get into the fucking house," I retorted.
"If I were home this kind of stuff wouldn't happen," he said as I hid behind the couch.
"Mom and I didn't tell you to go on this mission, dummy."
The next thing I knew the front door was bursting open. I had to refrain form squealing, so instead I clutched the knife tightly in my hand.
"They're now in the fucking house, I'm freaking out."
"Oh Primus. Turns out that my half Cybertronian daughter shares nothing in common with me after all," he baited.
"Fuck you!"
I peeked out from behind the couch to see the figure looking around. Just as I was about to stand up and attack, the lights flickered on and the figure was literally being tackled to the ground. I gasped in shock and stood up. What the fuck was Nathan doing?!
"Nate!" I yelled as I ran over to him.
"Dude, get off of me," a familiar voice sounded.
I dropped the knife almost immediately and gently pushed Nate to the floor. I grabbed the figure by the collar and pulled him up, ripping his mask off of his face. I could have smacked him right then and there.
"Ethan Witwicky! What the fuck are you doing?" I yelled.
"What's going on, Kay?" my dad spoke. Oops. I forgot about him.
"Ethan was the one trying to get in the house," I said out loud.
"Who's she talking to?" Ethan asked Nate.
I glared at him. "My dad, you nimrod!"
"Kaelyn?"
"Listen, I have to go. I have a Witwicky to beat up," I growled before disconnecting the link.
Ethan looked rather startled, but he should be. The fucker scared me for no reason. He could have just knocked on the fucking door instead of doing all of this extra break-in shit.
"Now, Kaelyn, I can explain," he said, backing away from me.
I just growled and punched him in his arm as hard as I possibly could. I held back only enough so I wouldn't break his arm. There would be a bruise visible later though.
"Ow!"
"You stupid motherfucker! You scared me to death!" I exclaimed angrily. I was moving closer to him, and I was just about ready to punch my best friend again until Nate pulled me backwards.
"Whoa there, hotshot," he whispered in my ear. I calmed down almost immediately.
"What are you doing here, E?" I inquired.
"I came to ask you and loverboy if you two would maybe want to go to the mall with Jessica and I tomorrow. I wanted to do it with style," he laughed.
"Pretending to break in to someone's house is style?" Nate snorted.
"In my dictionary it is. So, are you two down for it?"
I looked up at Nate for an answer and he smiled down at me. That was all that I needed to be able to answer Ethan.
"Sure. What time?"
"Three and then we're going out to eat. I'll pick you two up. For now I gotta go. Jessica is waiting for me. Bye!" he chimed before running back out the front door. I just shook my head at him. There was no way I was ever going to be able to understand what goes on in that boy's head.
