Kyla

"I made you breakfast." I said to Mekai as he came into the kitchen.

"I'm good." He picked up Kacey, Kason was asleep in his swing.

"Come on Kai, I'm trying. I said I was sorry, I-"

"Kyla, we not finna do this." he sighed

"Fine."

"Bout time." he picked up Kacey's bottle off the counter and began feeding her

"You know what? I was hurt too! I put up with a lot of shit too Kai! That's no excuse, but nobody's fuckin' perfect. You should be the one to fuckin' know."

"What you say?" he stopped

"You cheated on me, Kai. Not once but twice. Then not only to rub salt in the wound, she gets pregnant with your fuckin' child after I lost four of them! You don't think that shit hurts?"

"We were supposed to be working on that, you ain't give it a fuckin' chance!"

"Fuck you Mekai!" I slapped him

"Kyla watch yo' fuckin' self"

"Nigga fuck you" I pushed pass him

But before I could fully get pass, he grabbed my throat and slung me against the wall.

"Stop fuckin' playin' with me!" He hollered, waking Kason up "I did yo ass a favor by letting you live, I suggest you stop tryna' test the waters."

After he said that, he went to the swings, picked up the crying twins and went into the living room.

I got myself together then proceeded to clean the kitchen. After I was done, I went down the hall and finished getting ready for work. I have to do interviews for a new assistant today since I fired Liyah for the stunt she pulled last week.

"Mama's gonna see y'all after work." I bent down and kissed the twins forehead.

"I got somewhere to go after you get off work, so no staying late." Mekai said to me

I ignored him and walked out of the room.

"Kyla" my boss smiled, walking in the office

"Yes, Mr. Williams?"

"Enjoying your new office?" He asked, sitting in the chair on the other side of my desk

"Yes, thanks for the promo-"

"Have dinner with me tomorrow night."

"Sir-"

"Please, call me Sean."

"No sir and I'm fine."

"Come on, you been turning me down for months. I'm just trying to get to know you a little better."

"Mr. Williams, I'm fine. I don't have anyone to watch my kids anyway." I halfway lied

If Mekai wasn't there, which Mr. Willams knew nothing about, I wouldn't have anyone to watch them.

"What happened to Liyah?"

"She let my- a stranger in my house." I played it off like my words got jumbled

"That's crazy." He shook his head "It'll be no problem helping you get another one."

"No, you don't have to do that."

"I insist. The company helped you get Liyah with no problem, we can find a better babysitter."

"That's what I'm saying, the company has already done so much for me. You all got me the apartment, the car, a sitter, and now this promotion. But I don't want to become dependent."

"You wouldn't be."

"Maybe another time Mr. Williams." I said as politely as possible

"I'll back off." He raised his hands in surrender "I'm gonna' hold you to that 'another time'." He reminded

"Alright." I gave a forced chuckle as he closed the door

After he left, I dropped my fake smile and rolled my eyes. I hate how he keeps trying to basically bribe me into dating him. I appreciated the gestures because I needed them and I'm very grateful, but now he's over doing it.

"What?" I answered Mekai's phone call

"Lose the damn attitude."

"What do you want Mekai?"

Shortly after she heard Kacey's cries.

"Where's her pacifier?"

"How long has she been crying?"

"Look, where's the damn pacifier?"

"I don't give it to them unless they really need it." Which is true, pacifiers mess up children's teeth if they become too dependent on it

"That's dumb as hell. Where is it?"

"What is she crying for?"

"Kyla!"

"Stop yelling, you making it worse. It's in her top drawer. Where's Kason?"

"Sleeping."

"Ok, you found it yet?"

"Yeah." I saw he was about to hang up

"Don't hang up until my child is calm." I said

"Girl get the fuck off my phone. I got this." He said before hanging up

I called him back, but was sent straight to voicemail. There was no point in calling again because he wouldn't answer, so I sat my phone down and got back to work.

I wasn't doubting his parenting skills, it's just hard adjusting to having him around again.

"You late." Mekai said as I came in the house

"I got caught in traffic." I sat my bag down

"Yeah, whatever." He got up from the couch

"Mekai I am a grown ass, single ass woman. You are not about to sit here and clock me. Where are my damn kids?"

"They sleeping. I told you I had somewhere to go, what the fuck took you so long?"

"Mekai you really overdoing it. Leave me alone" I walked to the back to check on the twins

He followed "Nah. You overdoing it."

I ignored him, checking in their room then leaving out and closing the door.

"You can't hear now?"

"I hear you." I walked down the hall to my room

"So yo' ass don't have nothing to say?"

"I told you I got caught in traffic. Please get out my room." That was the truth, I don't know what more he was trying to get out of it

"Lying ass."

"You the liar. Talking 'bout you had somewhere to be, yet you wasting more time talking to me." I took my heels off "Now get out"

He mumbled something before leaving out.

I don't now how I'm going to make this parenting thing work with him now, but I'm going to do the best I can for the kids.
