Tonight my boss is having a big dinner party at his house. Most people have already told me how he normally throws dinner parties when he's giving out promotions. I don't want to get my hopes up, but if a promotion was to take place tonight, I wouldn't decline it.

"Sorry for having you watch them on such short notice." I said as Liyah helped me put on my necklace

"I didn't have nothing else to do tonight. Besides, they're more exciting than sitting in my living room eating ice cream."

"Thanks anyway. You like it?" I turned around, letting her see my whole outfit

"It screams promotion quietly." She smiled

"Crazy" I shook my head, chuckling

"It's almost 9, you better get going."

"Alright. They've already had their baths and everything." I said "Kason wakes up around 11, that's normally when he has to be changed, Kacey will probably wake up right after."

"Ok, thanks. See you later."

"I shouldn't be gone too long." I grabbed my handbag

"Take your time, don't forget to sweet talk." She chuckled, walking me to the door

Mekai walked the halls of the apartment building, looking for 42A.

"39, 40, 41..." he walked slowly "42A" he stopped and knocked

He was confused after he saw someone else open the door.

"May I help you?" Liyah asked

"I'm here to see Kyla Parker, this must be the wrong address." He said, making a mental note to get his money back from the investigator

"No, you have the right address. Who are you to her?"

"Oh good." He smiled "I'm her brother, I came here to surprise her, is she here?" He lied

"No, she's out at a dinner party right now..."

"Well I can just call her tomorrow and-"

"No, we wouldn't wanna' ruin the surprise. Come on in." She opened the door wider, letting Mekai in, completely unaware of who he really was

"I didn't know Kyla had a brother." Liyah looked him over, liking what she saw

"We don't spend much time together since she moved to LA."

"That's sweet that you showed up here to surprise her." She smiled, batting her eyelashes

"Yeah. You her roommate?"

"No, I'm her assistant."

"Oh ok." Mekai walked deeper into the living room, observing everything with "So what, you housesitting or something for her?"

"No, I'm actually-" Kason cried out "I'm babysitting. Could you have a seat while I go change his diaper?"

"Sure." He kept a smile

Liyah walked off and Mekai sat down with his thoughts going wild.

She had a baby on me

I can't believe this bitch.

He sat there waiting on Liyah to get back, making a whole new plan in his head while he waited. He had to go about things completely different from what he planned because a kid was involved now.

Shortly after sitting, Mekai heard another cry along with the first one.

He walked down the hall to get a look at the kid that was crying.

"Need any help?" he asked, leaning against the door

"Yes please" Liyah chuckled "Can you just snap Kason's onesie together for me and give him his pacifier?" She changed Kacey's diaper

Mekai walked around to the little boy's crib, getting a good look at the child. He couldn't determine if they were his or not just yet, but they sure looked like a perfect mixture of him and Kyla.

After snapping together his onesie, he placed the pacifier in Kason's mouth. Kason spit it out and started crying. Without hesitation, he picked him up.

"Aye, cut that out." He rocked him for a few minutes "You don't need no pacifier anyway."

Kason's cries turned into soft cooes as him and Mekai stared at one another.

"Wow, he must really like you." Liyah watched

Mekai chuckled "Yeah, they love Uncle Kai" he shrugged.

Kason laid his head on Mekai's chest, closing his eyes.

He felt awkward at first, but placed his hand on the baby's back and rocked him to sleep.

Mekai convinced Liyah to go home and that he'd watch the kids until Kyla came back. She didn't hesitate since from what she knew so far, he was family and could be trusted.

"Liyah, I got the promotion." Kyla came in the house, sitting her keys down

She didn't get a response, so she walked down the hall.

"Liyah, you in here sleep?" She made her way into the twin's room, not seeing any sign of Liyah.

Kyla immediately checked the twin's cribs, seeing them sound asleep.

"Liyah" she called out again

She made sure the baby monitor was on, then walked down the hall to her room. Once she completely stepped in, the door closed behind her.

"Wha-" her words got caught in her throat as Mekai stood in front of her with a gun pressed against her forehead

"Miss me, Sunshine?" a smirk danced on his lips

"Kai, I can explain-"

"I don't wanna' hear shit you gotta' say. Go sit the fuck down."

Kyla went and sat on the bed, afraid what would happen if she didn't listen.

There was a long silence in the room. Mekai stared at her and Kyla diverted her eyes anywhere but at him.

"A whole year...I was searching for yo ass for a whole year!"

"Mekai, I-"

"Didn't I say I don't wanna hear shit you gotta' say?!"

Tears came to Kyla's eyes, she wanted a chance to explain herself. She knew he probably hated her, but she needed to let him know why she did what she did.

"You didn't wanna' be found. You even had yo' fuckin' mama lying to me! You really think you deserve the right to talk?" he pointed the gun back at her

She stayed quiet, knowing the question was rhetorical.

"I can't believe you'd pull some triflin' shit like that..." he trailed off, shaking his head "And that's not even the fucked up part, the fucked up part is you didn't care about how I'd feel about any of this, just after we agreed to fixing and working on us." His jaw clenched and tears rolled down his cheeks

As Mekai stood in front of her, he battled back and forth with himself.

No, that's even more fucked up than what she did. You'd be taking the children's mother

"Who's kids?" He asked

She look at him for approval before she said anything, he nodded letting her know it was ok to answer.

"Ours."

"And how the hell am I supposed to believe that?"

"You wouldn't have asked if you didn't think they were yours. They both have half of your damn face."

She does have a point

"Kai, please just give me a few minutes to explain before you do something your regret."

"Like you regret what you did now?"

"...Yes" she cried "I wish I never left you, especially since we have children together. But I didn't know I was pregnant when I left, you have to believe me. I was just so angry-"

"Angry? The fuck were you mad about?"

"We'd been trying to conceive and kept losing them, then out of nowhere Bridgett pops up pregnant. Do you know how hard that is to deal with?...I couldn't take it, so I left"

"You left instead of coming to talk to me about it. You made me miss time out of my children's lives because you got mad. Oh wow."

"I didn't know I was pregnant Kai." She repeated "Everything was normal with me until I had been out here about five months. By then I figured it'd be too late to come back into your life so I-"

"You know if you would've came back, I would've been more than happy." He side eyed her, wiping his face

"I let my anger and my hurt get the best of me, and I'm sorry. Please Kai..."

"I lost myself again because of you...I went into a place I promised to never go to again." He took the safety off

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. Please" she begged

"Don't start begging."

"I love you Kai, please don't do this." She stared at him with tear filled eyes

He shook his head, staring back at her.

"I love you too" he placed his finger on the trigger

She closed her eyes, preparing to have her life taken.

Kyla opened her watery eyes, looking up at Mekai. He was standing there with the gun in his hand.

"You not worth it" he sighed "I'll do what I have to do for my kids, but me and you are done." He put the safety back on and put it back in his waistband

He walked out of the room, leaving Kyla on the bed with tears pouring down her face. She took big gasps of air as she cried, feeling so many emotions all at once.
