- few days later (7:15am)

"Answer the phone." Kyla hit Mekai in his sleep

He pulled her closer, ignoring what she said.

"Kai, your phone." She said into his chest

"Answer it" He mumbled

"You gotta let me go." She chuckled

All she got in response to that were some snores. Kyla tried to slide out of his embrace, but by the time she got out of his arms, the phone stopped ringing.

She smacked her lips, seeing a voicemail pop up. She figured since she did all that to get up, she might as well listen to something.

She played the voicemail, putting the phone to her ear.

"Mekai this is Dr. Davidson, I just called to let you know the test results came in. You can call back or just walk in and ask for them at the front desk." And that was all he said before ending it

Kyla sighed, locking the phone and sitting it back down. After hearing the voicemail, she didn't know how to feel. She knew she had to get herself ready for whatever though.

After not being able to go back to sleep, Kyla got up and took her shower since she had a class at 9:30 anyway. During her shower, all she thought about were the test results. She didn't want the baby to be his, but at the same time there was a huge possibility it could be.

"Why you get up so early?" Mekai asked, walking in the kitchen with his boxers on

"Your phone woke me up." She put the eggs back in the refrigerator

"My bad baby." He pecked her lips

"It's cool. Your DNA results came in today."

"I'll go get 'em after my classes" he stood behind her, resting his chin on her shoulder

"Ok. I got an interview after my first class today."

"For the job you wanted?"

"Yeah, the professor put in a good word." She looked back at him with a smirk

"Crazy" he shook his head, chuckling "Good luck, Sunshine."

"Good luck to you too. You need it more than me" she shook her head

Mekai headed over to the doctor's office right after all his classes like he said he would. Soon as he walked in, he saw Bridgett coming from the back, crying. She walked pass him, stared for a few seconds, then ran out.

Inside, he was smiling because that had to mean he wasn't the father.

"I'm here to pick up some test results" he said to the receptionist

"Name?"

"Mekai Andrews."

After he got the folder, he walked out. He wanted to wait to get home and open them. Hopefully so he could share the good news with his fiancé.

When he got home, all the lights were off.

"Baby! Where you at?"

"The kitchen."

When Mekai walked into the kitchen, he saw a candle lit dinner for two.

"What's this for?"

"They hired me for the job right away." Kyla smiled "I thought we'd celebrate"

But there was more to what she had to tell him.

"Congratulations baby girl." He hugged her tightly, kissing her

"Thank you." Kyla said after they pulled apart "I see you got the results..."

"Yeah. I got a good feeling about this, baby. Bridgett was crying."

"Crying?"

"Yup, you ready for me to open 'em?"

"Yeah." Kyla took a deep breath, exhaling softly

Of course he had to be extra. He started reading the results like Maury.

"Ok, in the case of Bridgett's unborn child...I, Mekai Andrews-" Mekai stopped, not wanting to continue

"What does it say baby?"

"I'm the uh...it's my baby." He sighed, sitting the results down

He scratched his head because he couldn't figure out why Bridgett was crying earlier.

"Oh." Kyla's entire mood changed

"Sunshine I-"

"We're celebrating two things tonight, my new job and a new addition." She took a sip of her sparkling cider

"Kyla."

"Yeah?"

"I'm sorry." He knew he had messed up

"There's nothing to apologize about, Kai. Stop being a Debbie downer and let's enjoy tonight." She poured him a glass of wine

"You not mad?"

"Like I said before, I rather you take care of the child than be a deadbeat." She smiled "Now come on, I made your favorite." She took his hand, leading him over to the table

~4:56am

Mekai woke up, feeling the empty space next to him. He got up, seeing Kyla wasn't in the room.

"Baby" he laid, waiting for a response "Ky!" He called again

After he didn't get a response back, he got up. "Kyla" he opened the bathroom door

She wasn't in there, so he headed to the closet. Still no sign of her

What the hell

She's probably in the living room or the kitchen.

After Mekai checked the entire apartment, he raced back to the bedroom, grabbing his phone. While he called Kyla's number, he started searching the drawers.

The phone didn't ring at all, it just went straight to voicemail.

"Baby, where you at? It's 2 something in the morning and-" he stopped talking, finding a note in one of her empty drawers

His phone dropped as he read it

I love you, goodbye.

~10am

"Did you see the test results?" Bridgett asked, sitting across from Mekai

"You mean the test results you messed with? Yeah I saw those fake shits."

"I didn't mess with anything and they aren't fake Mekai." She rolled her eyes "Just accept the fact that you're the father."

"I want another test."

"There's no need for all that. I'm getting an abortion" she shrugged, explaining why she was crying earlier
