Operation: Save June Child, So Far So Good

The menacing gates of Eichen House loomed over Malia and Kira's heads as they entered the premises. For Kira, her legs trembled with every step that brought her closer to the place she almost killed her friends. Even now she could feel the familiar hum of electricity running, sprinting through her veins. For Malia, every instinct she'd gathered over the eight years of being a wild coyote, and the near year she'd been acquainted with Scott and his pack told her to turn and run as fast as she could away from this hell. She'd nearly been killed in this prison, and wasn't keen to go back.

The only thing keeping both of the girls present was June.

An orderly named Travers was listing the instructions that seemed to come second nature to him, for he spoke in a bored voice. "Please remember to follow visitor procedure. Eichen House has a wide range of patients and we cannot guarantee the safety of those who deviate from the rules."

Could they perhaps guarantee their own safety if they knew exactly what was happening several stories below their feet?

Stepping through the threshold, Malia and Kira both waited at the end of the line for the orderly at the check-in to be distracted by the orderly who went to pick up the actual visitors. Once satisfied they weren't being watched, the girls walked briskly and nonchalantly over to a spot next to the doors to the office. For the next several minutes, all they could do was wait and hide.

*****

Parrish was recalling the last time he himself had visited Eichen, and that was to rescue two teenagers from certain death at the hands of a psychopath who thought he was helping patients get out of their heads by dying. And now? Now, it was to save a girl who was in the hands of a psychopath who believed that drilling holes into his patients' heads would answer questions that the universe wasn't ready to divulge.

All in all, Deputy Parrish really hated the place.

He pulled up the transport van to the security checkpoint that resided in the back, and dipped further down to an area close to the morgue. He patiently watched as the security guard on duty checked over his clipboard and stared blankly at Parrish when he didn't like what he read.

"Delivery to the morgue," Parrish was eager to break the uncomfortable and heavy silence that the guard seemed to radiate.

He conferred his clipboard again, shaking his head. "I don't see you on the list."

The deputy couldn't believe that he actually found himself following Stiles' script that he provided earlier. "You heard about the animal attacks, right?" Jordan watched as he nodded fractionally. "The hospital ran out of refrigerated drawers and Eichen's got the only other up-to-code morgue in the county."

The guard waved, "Let's have a look."

"I don't think you want to do that," Parrish warned, well aware just how suspicious he sounded. "The stench back there almost made me pass out while driving."

"Open the back of the van, please." He wasn't buying Jordan's friendly act, and he had seen far too little that evening to pass up the opportunity to see something remotely entertaining. Parrish cut the van's engine, and reluctantly made his way to the back where the guard stood expectantly.

He held up his flashlight as Parrish opened the back doors to reveal stacks of body bags lying somewhat haphazardly on top of one another. Hoping that was proof enough, Jordan looked back to the guard.

"I'll need to log the names off the toe tags," The security guard instructed, and Parrish was starting to feel like his luck was running out.

"There's significant decomp," He argued, "They were found in the county tunnels way past rigor."

"Open them up, please." Something in the back of Parrish's mind told him this guy must really hate having to use the word 'please'. Nevertheless, he abided by the instructions given and grabbed at the zipper of the first body bag he could reach. Unzipping it only halfway let out a ghastly stench that made Parrish's eyes water tremendously. Unzipping it entirely and removing the rubberized fabric revealed the gruesome evidence left behind by a raging killing machine.

Parrish turned back to the man on guard duty and watched as the smell hit him immediately after the sight did. He turned away and gagged while trying to recover from what he had just witnessed. Parrish hesitantly grabbed another zipper and began pulling at it when a sharp and disgusted sound rang through the air.

"No, no. Go, just go." The guard walked away from the van, still sounding like he was having trouble breathing properly. All the while, Parrish smiled as he zipped the body bags shut, happily driving down to the morgue drop-off.

What felt like forever, but had only been ten minutes waiting for both Kira and Malia was excruciating. Malia's guy on the inside seemed to be waiting to make his distraction, and the curious glances the other visitors gave the two girls didn't do much to help out their anxiety.

Then, absolutely in the nick of time, Malia's friend waltzed through the front lobby, earning multiple stares and points in his direction. Peering around the corner, the girls saw him completely naked, a dopey grin on his face, and his steps never wavering in confidence.

"Not again, Nelson." Like music to their ears, they heard the orderly call out the the boy, Nelson, as he strode by the front window. Together, the girls watched as the orderly on watch sprinted by in effort to grab a now running Nelson. Malia waved to Kira, and both girls ran quickly into the back, eyes on the large plaque reading "Electrical Room" on a closed door.

"It's natural," Nelson said from a distance.

"So is fifty-thousand volts," The orderly replied before a groan of pain and crackling could be heard. Malia flinched in pity before ushering Kira inside the electrical room and into position.

"We're in," Kira exclaimed as Malia gently shut the door. "We did it."

Checking her phone, Malia walked over to where Kira was standing. "Don't get too excited. Getting out's the hard part." The clock read 7:46 in the evening. "Sixteen minutes." Recognizing the circuit board cover, she tore it off to reveal a maze of wires running in all different places. She watched as Kira analyzed the different wires in hopes to find the main breakers giving power to the entire institution. "Okay, Kira, you can do this. Fifteen minutes."

*****

Parrish had retreated to the van several minutes after placing all the body bags in the morgue. With no need to guard the dead, all the other orderlies and guards left the bags in the morgue and proceeded to finish up their tasks for the evening. Had anyone stayed moments longer, they might've seen the far body bag begin to move, and fingers begin to tug at the zippers. Slowly but surely, Scott, Liam, and Stiles all gasped for air as they surfaced from inside the bags.

Scott and Liam did so with ease, however, Stiles had to move an entire body off the slab the two shared in order to get out of his bag. Panting, he turned over to Scott and breathed, "Never again." Scott only nodded in agreement before checking the time on his phone.

"Fifteen minutes starting now."

The boys struggled to get out of their bags, and eventually, after much wiggling (and Stiles falling to the floor), they managed to stand up straight and head to the door of the morgue.

Scott placed his ear to the door and listened as the expected orderlies walked by. He waited until their footsteps were gone entirely, and silently opened the door, the three of them making their way down to the closed unit.

*****

Kira scanned the specs she was given and stared at the real life model. Eyeing the circuit board, her eyes landed on large wires placed near the bottom. She pointed at them, "I think it's these. But they're covered in rubber."

Malia stared around the room, until her eyes landed on the desk sitting in the middle of it. Grabbing the scissors that rest in one of the supply cups, she headed back over, and prepared to cut off the rubber. Kira quickly grabbed her arm.

"You wanna electrocute yourself?"

Malia shrugged, "I'll heal." She reached for it again, but Kira's grip tightened.

"Not if you die."

Not seeing any other options, Malia whipped out her claws. Kira's eyes widened as she quickly scraped at the rubber layer and flinched back when sparks began to fly. The room was quickly filled with the stench of burnt skin, and Malia turned her now blackened fingers to Kira.

"I didn't die." Kira gave her a pointed stare, and she pulled out her phone again. Looking at the phone once more, her heart skipped a beat at how much time had so rapidly passed. "Four minutes."

*****

Stiles lead the way down the halls he knew like the back of his hand. About to turn the corner which led to the closed unit, Stiles stopped, throwing his arms back to prevent both Scott and Liam from turning the corner and exposing them to the orderlies that were in the next hallway.

"What are they doing there?" Scott asked frustratedly, the plan was going well so far, why did it have to stop now?

"I don't know, their rounds should've ended five minutes ago," Stiles whispered back. He looked back over his shoulder to watch them as they conversed casually.

"I can take them." Both Scott and Stiles slowly turned to look at Liam in a disbelieving manner.

"No one's taking anyone," Scott practically ordered.

"How much time?" Stiles whispered, feeling his anxiety grow. They were cutting it too close for his liking.

Scott checked his phone, "Three minutes."

"I'll just knock them out, then hide the bodies," Liam mentioned again.

Stiles stared at him blankly, a pained look on his face, "Oh my god, please stop." All three of them were caught off guard by a loud thud, and watched as the patient across from them continued to bang on the glass.

"Did you take the doctor?" He was a scrawny boy, couldn't be much older than Liam, and he looked on the verge on a full-blown meltdown.

"What?" Liam asked quietly.

"Did you take the doctor? I haven't had my medication. I need ten milligrams at 8am, fifteen milligrams at 1pm, and no more than twenty at dinner."

"We'll get the doctor," Scott assured him as Stiles watched the orderlies down the hall. They were too curious for his liking.

"Dr. Fenris. Dr. Fenris. They took Dr. Fenris," He nearly burst into tears before banging on the glass panel once more. Scott shut his eyes, trying to come up with a plan to get them safely through what could happen next.

"I haven't had my medication. I need to see the doctor. They took Dr. Fenris," Every sentence was followed by another loud bang."

They needed to act fast. Stiles saw the curious looks on the orderlies' faces as they faced where the noise was coming from. "Okay, someone shut him up."

"I need to see the doctor."

"Shut him up."

Every bang felt like a nail in the coffin of their plan. Stiles could see it ending very quickly, and felt his heartbeat pick up with every step the orderlies took closer to them. Scott bared his fangs and flashed his eyes at the poor patient, who probably thought it was a side effect of no medication. To Scott's disbelief, the guy backed off, and retreated into the farthest corner of his cell. Stiles watched as the orderlies that were headed for the cell now headed for the door to the stairway.

The plan was still working, the coast was clear.

*****

"I can smell how nervous you are," Malia stated, and Kira refrained from rolling her eyes.

"Not helping," She continued to look at the breakers that were now hers to control. If she could control them.

"Okay," Malia whispered before going to stand next to her. "You can do this. It's just like we practiced."

"You mean like when I caused a major blackout?"

"Not like that, no." Malia went to check her phone as Kira grabbed onto the breakers. "Ten seconds. Nine, eight..."

"Please stop counting," Kira insisted, slightly panicking with every passing second.

"Why isn't it working?" Malia asked her, when indeed nothing happened.

"Because I have no idea what I'm doing."

Malia checked her phone again, and they had wasted three minutes waiting. "Kira, nothing's happening."

"I'm aware of that. I don't want to lose control because I'm scared I'll fry the entire system."

"Then stop worrying about what you might do." Malia stared her right in the eye as she comforted her. "This isn't about you. Or me. This is about June. We're here to save June. We're here to save our friend."

Kira sighed, nodding. She grabbed onto the breakers once more, and began feeling electricity run through her at an intense rate. Malia watched as the lights in the room dimmed, the electrical readings winding down almost entirely.

"Kira, it's working. Keep going."

Malia heard a sudden beep from the computer situated on the desk, and ran over to check. On the screen read a large alert: Key Card System Rebooted.

Eichen House was now experiencing a brownout.

*****

Scott and Stiles and Liam were walking down the hall when a voltage transformer began to hum, and the lights switched overhead. They weren't as prominent, but they were still there.

"She did it, Kira did it," Liam exclaimed, ecstatic.

"Five minutes to get to June," Scott warned Stiles, and Stiles nodded while pulling out the key card that would now work. He placed his hand on the side of the door and went to swipe the key card when he found there was no where to swipe it.

"Where's the card reader?" They all looked around for the card reader that seemed to mysteriously vanish. "It should be here. It has to be here."

"They must've taken it out when the Dread Doctors got through," Scott guessed, at a loss.

"Are you telling me we came all the way down here just to be stopped by an ordinary key? Are you kidding me?"

"We don't need a key," Liam stated, staring at the door. "Not if we can break it down."

Not even hesitating, Scott and Liam grabbed onto the gate, and began pushing against the locked door. After a few moments of no success, Stiles checked over his shoulder.

"Guys, we're running out of time."

Scott and Liam both released their grip on the gate, panting heavily. "It's the mountain ash, it's too much."

Liam balled his hand into a fist, suddenly remembering how much more powerful he felt the night of the super moon. "Hit me." Scott wasn't sure he heard him correctly until he turned to face him and repeated himself. "Hit me. I'll get angry, then I'll get stronger."

Scott looked to Stiles, who waved at Liam, "Hit him. Hit him."

"I tried to take your powers," Liam watched as Scott shook his head. "I tried to kill you. Hit me!"

"He also left you for dead," Stiles reminded him.

Liam nodded, "I wanted you dead." That seemed to be all he needed, for Scott hit Liam square across the cheek.

"Do it again," Liam instructed, and Scott obliged, hitting him once more in the same spot.

"It's gotta be harder than that," Stiles commented.

"Do it!"

Scott felt his heartbeat rise, anger taking over him. He might've overdone it, but he punched Liam several more times before letting him catch his breath.

"You angry?" Scott watched as Liam flashed his eyes and bared his fangs, growling in response.

"Me too." With an almighty push, the door fell out of place as easily as one might push over a domino.

Consumed with their small victory, neither werewolf heard the radio chatter of panicked security guards. Someone was taking down the perimeter guards one by one. Someone else was here for June.

"Stiles, go!" He didn't need much more convincing after that. He leapt over the door that was still clattering to the ground and ran down the hallway. His feet took him down the route he'd memorized and up to the gate to the closed unit. Hoping against all hope, he swiped the card and breathed out in relief when it buzzed in approval. He ran down the hallway and hastily swiped the card once more to open the door to get into June's room. He threw himself inside as soon as the door opened wide enough and suddenly froze in horror at the sight in front of him.

Blood and sweat stained the pillow her head rested upon, and Stiles could see the beads of perspiration covering her face. He heard her shallow breathing, and looked to see her trembling hands were held down by restraints on her bed. The only thing that made Stiles feel somewhat better was that June consciously looked over to Stiles, eyes wide in recognition.

"Stiles?" She let out weakly, and he moved forward to her. Dropping to his knees, his hands shakily reached out to touch her. He pushed the scraggly strands of hair out of her face, and went to inspect where the blood was coming from. Dread, fear, and rage ignited in Stiles when he saw the large, precise hole situated right behind her left ear.

"No, no, no, no, no, no, no, you can't be here," She moaned lowly, and Stiles considered her frightened blue eyes.

"You're going to die if you stay," She croaked as Stiles continued to look at her face, "All of you."

Not wasting another moment, Stiles removed his hands from her face and started unshackling her from the bed. He ignored how his heart skipped a beat whenever she sharply inhaled in pain.

"Stiles, he's coming," She warned, and Stiles shook his head.

"June, there's no way in hell I am leaving you here," He denied, continuing to free her. She leaned towards him as much as she could.

"You have to," June argued, and just as she did, a faint buzzing sound went off in the distance, confirming that Dr. Valack was in fact coming closer.

"Stiles go," She urged and Stiles looked at her face again. She looked so weak, but determination remained in her eyes as she begged Stiles to leave. "Please."

It was with horrible regret that Stiles fastened the cuffs back onto June's wrists. Quickly, he took one last look at her before planting a small kiss on her forehead and leaving the cell. He looked around to see an open doorway and dove around the corner. Just in time, too, for Stiles heard the buzz at the other end of the hallway, signaling Valack's return. Stiles felt like a failure, June was no closer to safety. If anything, she was closer to death.

*****

Kira and Malia had their ears pressed up against the door as they listened to the outside. Previously, their attempts at leaving the office unnoticed were thwarted by the presence of security guards out in the lobby. Now, they could hear the orderly Schrader impatiently talking to someone else.

"Visiting hours are well past over."

A girl approached him as he peered over some paperwork. Had he even bothered to glance up, he might've noticed the scales on her face. Or the fangs in her mouth. Or the yellow eyes. Really, had Schrader glanced up at all, he'd've noticed that the girl looked like a biblical demon from hell walking on the surface of the earth.

"We're not here to visit," Tracy Stewart spoke lowly, finally drawing his attention. As soon as he did, his eyes took in the other person who had seemingly produced himself from the wall. Another boy walked up behind Tracy, eyes glowing a vivid purple, baring sharpened teeth as well.

Finally, in walked Theo, looking completely normal, and stopping right at the check-in desk. "We're here for June Child." Schrader gulped, and slowly tried to back away; however, his plan was thwarted when Theo grabbed his collar and pulled him through the window. Schrader was unceremoniously thrown to the floor, where he met unconsciousness quickly. Theo, Josh, Corey, and Tracy all began their short walk down to the closed unit, unnoticed.

Lydia had been waiting patiently by the jeep, ready to move at a moment's notice when she saw a figure approach the gates of Eichen House. Ginny was walking briskly over to Eichen's doorbell, and began ringing desperately. Lydia hopped out of the car and walked over to Ginny. The closer she got, she heard more of Ginny as she talked into the box.

"Hello! Hello, this is Ginny Child, I'm here to see June." No one answered, so she rang again. "Hello?"

"Ginny?" Ginny spun around at the sound of her name, and came face-to-face with Lydia. "What are you doing here?"

"What are you doing here?"

"I asked you first."

Ginny huffed, and ran a shaking hand through her hair. "That file - that file the sheriff gave me-"

"You mean the file of Dr. Valack's work? That file?"

Ginny's eyes widened, "You know about that?"

"Of course I knew, Deaton showed it to us before we got it to the sheriff."

"Us? Who's us?" Ginny narrowed her eyes at Lydia, who realized her cover might've been blown.

"Ginny, who do you think?"

It didn't take much for her to piece it together, "That's why you're here. You - you and Stiles - and - and-" She turned back to the buzzer and rang again. "Hello! I need to see June Child immediately. Open the damn gate!" She walked over to the gates themselves and exasperatedly tugged on them. The gates having been opened previously remained open, and Ginny found herself stumbling backwards. She turned back to Lydia, whose eyes were wide.

"That's not supposed to be open," She whispered, feeling something in her gut twist uncomfortably. When both girls walked to the other side, they found a security guard lying unconscious next to a stun baton. They shared a look before slowly approaching the front doors.

*****

Stiles' hands were bleeding due to his fingernails digging into the palms of his hands. The hallway he was in had a marvelous echo, and he could hear everything Valack was saying to June. His fingers ached due to the fists he made, but he stayed put, waiting.

"Stay focused, June," Valack ordered, and pressed a rag to June's bleeding head.

"What did you do to me?"

"I've amplified your abilities, something that might just save the lives of your friends."

"Theo and Hayden, they found it. They were looking for Noah, but they found a symbol. A circle inside another circle, carved into a wall. The symbol of Scott's pack." Stiles lurched forward when he heard June whimper in pain after answering.

"It was more than a symbol, wasn't it," Valack ignored June. "It was a promise to reunite them."

"Yes."

"But has Scott done it yet? Will he be coming for you?"

June gasped, "Someone's coming. But it's not Scott."

Just down the hallway, a buzz could be heard, sounding the opening of the gate into the closed unit. Stiles dared a peek around the corner, and saw Theo and his pack walking down the hallway, unperturbed by the mountain ash. He then saw Valack walk out of the room and face them.

"You don't want to do this, Theo," He stated calmly. "She's safe in here. The Dread Doctors don't know that she knows everything yet." Theo looked over to Tracy, who grabbed a hold of Valack and pinned him by the neck. Theo strode into June's room and looked over her state, shaking his head.

"She doesn't look good," Josh commented.

Corey looked at him in disbelief, "She has a hole in her head. It's not a good look for anyone."

"Can't believe this is actually considered a medical establishment," He remarked, turning back to Corey and Josh. "Pick her up. We're getting her out of here."

"Now what would a pack of chimeras want with a witch?" A sudden whimper from June interrupted their standoff, and following her moan of pain came an almost deafening clap of thunder overhead.

"I don't want a witch. I'm looking for a hellhound." A loud roar on incredible cue rang out through the hallway. Stiles' eyes widened as Parrish grabbed on to the gate in the opposite end of the hallway.

"You wanted a hellhound?" Valack asked rhetorically. "I think you've found one."

Stiles watched in silent awe as Parrish melted the gate off its hinges, effectively setting off any alarm that had been rebooted. Suddenly all the doors slammed shut, and gates fell down over windows. This kept Lydia and Ginny from entering the building, kept Malia and Kira trapped in the morgue that they had escaped to, and sent four armed guards after Liam and Scott.

Eichen was now experiencing a lockdown, and June Child was slipping further and further away from any control over her magic.
