Chapter 5: Golden Serpent

It had been a few days since Luz and King stayed with Eda the Owl Lady, but she loved her new home.

She didn't need to keep one eye open as she slept. She didn't need to use her own cloak as a blanket. She didn't need to worry about her sort of demon son getting cold.

And? She actually had different clothes. Night clothes and PJ's as well.

"I wanna stay here." Luz said as she cuddled up in the blankets again, in a gray tank top and purple shorts as her PJ's. "I mean...look at us, King! Eda is super nice and clever, and we're actually able to have food and good night's sleep."

"The chores stink, but yeah! This is the perfect home for a tyrant!!!" King declared.

"Maybe I'll even find love here." Luz laughed.

King stuck his tongue out. "Yuck!!! Don't fall to the dark side, Luz!!!"

"The dark side? I thought you were the ruler of darkness, my cutie pie?" Luz asked, watching King cuddle in her arms.

"The DARKER side." King said in a grave voice. "Besides, you don't need anyone else to love you."

"Awwww! King!" Luz squealed, kissing his forehead. "I love you too!"

King chuckled, loving the forehead kisses AND Luz's affection.

Luz then yawned and rested her head on the pillow. "Goodnight, King."

"Goodnight, Luz." King said as he closed his eyes.

The next morning, Luz practically bounced out of bed, but then blinked when she saw Eda about to slam pots and pans together again. She just shrugged it off and waved. "Morning, Eda!"

Eda had a bit of a disappointed look on her face. "I liked being the alarm clock..."

"Oh, uhh, sorry." Luz laughed. "I'll meet you downstairs!"

"Cya down there, kid." Eda said as she walked down the stairs.

Luz then changed into a purple and white hoodie and black pants, with the hoodie having cat ears on the end. She then put the hoodie over her head and looked into the mirror.

"Meow meow!" Luz said with a laugh before putting the hoodie down and walking over to King. "Morning!"

King slowly woke up. "5 more minutes..."

"Alright, King. You get to sleep in." Luz said as she kissed his forehead again and then walked downstairs...to see Eda carrying a giant sack over her shoulders. "Uhh...what's that?"

"Nothing stolen." Eda said a little too quickly as she walked into the basement.

"Wait, what?" Luz asked, eyes widening.

"YOU HAVE HEARD NOTHING!!!" Eda screamed from the basement.

Luz blinked again before shrugging it off. It was probably nothing. She then sat down on the table and started to eat a bowl of cereal. Life couldn't get better than this.

Meanwhile...

Golden Guard let his cape blow in the wind, cackling as he faced something glowing. "Soon...The Witch will meet her demise."

He then sighed. "No, no, no. That doesn't work. Maybe 'SOON SHE WILL MEET HER DEMISE!'?" Golden Guard asked himself. "Yes! That's it! Put more emotion into it!" He then clapped. "Man, I love my job!"

And then? The glowing light enlarged and there was a giant slithering sound. Golden Guard grinned widely before getting onto his staff and flying high into the air.

And then? A GIANT and completely black and purple snake slithered out. The snake raised its mighty head, showing its large fangs and purple horns.

Golden Guard fell from the sky and landed on the snake's head. "Gildersnake! The Emperor has personally requested that I'M your new boss. So? Let's get to work."

The Gildersnake roared before slithering across the forest and into the city.

Meanwhile...

Luz sighed as she flipped through the channels. "Your human channels are so-"

"Oh, stop complaining. It's the morning. Not everything good is on in the morning." Eda said, feeding Owlbert and Hooty. "Besides, you can do better things than watch TV. Like go outside or something. Read a book maybe!"

"I will!" Luz said. "...eventually."

Eda sighed, and even King facepalmed. But then? The channels stopped switching as there were giant red letters, and the sound of a loud beep.

"Breaking news!!!" A voice cried, as the TV turned into a man sitting at a desk. "This is an immediate evacuation call! I find it hard to believe, but it seems that some form of snake has been seen attacking the city! But not just any kind...it's colossal! The military will arrive, but until then? Leave the city, make sure no one is left behind!"

Then, footage showed The Gildersnake slithering across a nearly destroyed city. It roared.

Luz gasped before seeing...The Golden Guard on its head. She quickly stood and rushed outside.

"Kid!!! What are you doing!?!?" Eda cried, rushing after her. "We gotta go!"

"That's a Gildersnake!" Luz said as she raised her hand and her staff came flying into her palm. She then slammed or down, and changed into her witch attire. She then pulled her cloak over her nose and mouth, so no one would recognize her...humans were dumb.

"A what?!"

"It's a deadly monster from my world! Not to mention, Golden Guard is controlling it! He's bad news. I'll explain it later! But I have to save those people!"

"No! It's dangerous!" Eda cried. "It could kill you! And remember what I said about those bad people that could discover you?!"

"I'll make sure none of them see me! Watch over King!" Luz said before she got on her staff and flew off into battle before Eda could say anything else.

At the city, the snake roared and roared, using its tail to whip around buildings.

Golden Guard just cackled. "Ah! Endless destruction! I wish I had a drink to give this a toast!" He then waved his staff around, summoning a cup of tea. He lifted his mask slightly and sipped on it.

Then? He saw a familiar figure fly towards them. Golden Guard grinned even more and crushed the cup, and lowered his mask. "Right on time. Gildersnake!!!"

The Gildersnake perked its head before seeing Luz and roaring.

The Witch AKA Luz flew in, drawing a spell circle and blasting a beam of pure light at the creature.

The Gildersnake roared in pain, waving its head around. Golden Guard growled and quickly flew into the air, so he wouldn't fly off the head.

Luz smirked before dodging the fangs of The Gildersnake. She then jumped off her staff and onto the ledge of a building. She then spun around her staff and blasted an even bigger beam of light at The Gildersnake.

The Gildersnake roared in pain again before slamming its head towards Luz, smashing the building, but missing Luz since she created an ice pillar nearby and flew onto it.

Luz chuckled before she then spun around a purple spell circle, and two slimy and clay like creatures came from it and roared, hopping onto the Gildersnake.

They punched and kicked at the creature, hurting it even more. The Gildersnake roared before shaking off the creatures.

"Abominations. Not the best, but helpful!" Luz said before sending out a vortex of vines, forcing the Gildersnake's jaws shut.

The Gildersnake roared and roared before breaking the vines, freeing its jaws. Its tail then rattled, showing it was about to attack.

Luz chuckled. "Do not underestimate me, Gildersnake! For I am The Wild Witch! Warrior of peace!" Luz declared, her cape blowing in the wind before her eyes glowed gold and she pointed her staff at The Gildersnake. "NOW EAT THIS, SUCKA!!!!"

Then? A giant vortex of flames covered The Gildersnake. It roared in agony before it turned into ash and fell across the city.

Luz chuckled before she then looked up and saw Golden Guard.

Golden Guard clapped. "Impressive...you survived the portal AND The Gildersnake."

Luz clenched her fist. "Your boss can throw all he wants at me, and so can you."

Golden Guard just grinned. "This isn't even close to all we have. This is only the first, Witch." He then laughed. "Are you protecting this world now?"

"Yes. Because it's filled with innocent-"

"It was rhetorical, I don't really care." Golden Guard said.

Luz narrowed her eyes. "You're a...well...uhhh...jerk!"

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I'm also Lord Hava."

"Hava? Who's Hava?" Luz asked before her eyes widened. "Oh, no."

"HAVA NICE DAY!!!" Golden Guard cackled evilly as he teleported away.

Luz clenched her fists and growled as she flew away. "He ruins puns!!!"

The Witch then flew back home, transforming back into her normal attire. "I'm back!"

"LUZ!" King cried as he ran over and hugged her tightly. "YOU'RE BACK!"

Luz laughed and hugged back. "Of course! And! I beat the snake!"

"We saw it all from the distance." Eda said before joining the hug. "I'm proud of ya, kid."

Luz smiled and hugged back.

"They didn't see you, did they?"

"Whaaat? No! Of course not! Besides, it's not like you have spying spells or anything. Humans can't do magic."

"But we have cameras and phones."

"...What are those?"
