Chapter 15: Prom Night

"Thanks for the hug." Luz said as she got into something more comfy.

Eda smiled softly and nodded, giving her one more hug. "We're here when you need us, kiddo."

Luz smiled back and nodded. "I'm glad you're all my family."

"Awww!" Eda snickered before letting go. "Alright, remember, kid! Your special little Prom is tomorrow. Don't do anything stupid! And don't do anything I wouldn't do!"

"Aren't those the same thing?" Luz laughed.

"Exactly." Eda smirked before leaving.

Luz then got into, well, a onesie of some kind. Specifically, an otter onesie. She then cuddled up on her bed, pulling the blankets over her body.

King then stepped in and cuddled up with his mother. "You look silly."

"Being silly helps cheer me up." Luz smirked before she closed her eyes and fell asleep.

Since Prom was at night, Luz had quite a lot of hours to kill. She did chores, magic, watched TV, and various other things. She needed the little cry session, hug, and nap.

Of course...that wasn't to say the memory of what happened all those years ago had been forgotten, especially since Grom reminded her of it.

But? What Luz needed was something to get her mind off it...and a magical therapist.

"Hmmm, 7:30. I got about 30 more minutes." Luz said before shrugging. "I might as well get ready!"

She then got dressed in a black and purple suit, smiling as she twirled around in front of a mirror. "I look good!~"

She then looked at her pointy ears and hummed. "Looks like I'll need a very long illusion spell to last the whole night."

She then smiled before hearing a knock and then going downstairs to answer the door? And then saw Willow and Gus.

Willow was wearing a green dress with yellow highlights, and Gus was wearing a black and blue suit.

"Wow!!! You guys look great!!!" Luz smiled.

"You don't look too bad yourself!" Gus smiled. "Couldn't decide between a suit or dress?"

"Wanted a mixture of the two, but didn't know how to make it not look weird." Luz laughed, spinning around her finger and making her ears look normal.

"Well, you look very nice! Ready to go?" Willow asked.

"Don't we still have 30 minutes left?"

"Well, yeah, but it's nice to be there early! Since it's a bit of a drive."

"Speaking of, how DID you even get here?" Luz asked, looking around in the sky for any flying thing.

"Uhhh, my dad drove us." Willow snorted.

"Oh. Right." Luz laughed before looking back in the house. "I'll cya later, Eda! Bye, King!"

"King?" Gus asked as Luz closed the door and they started heading to Willow's dad's car. "Who's King?"

"The cutest little pup ever ever!!! My adopted son."

Willow and Gus froze. "WHAT!?"

"Okay, okay! Calm down! He's more of a sentient demon dog who happens to have the intelligence of a person!"

"Okay, that makes more sense." Gus said.

After a long drive, they were dropped off by Willow's father.

"Remember! I'll be here to pick you guys up. Don't party too hard." Willow's father laughed.

"We won't, Dad!" Willow smiled as she waved, her father driving off.

Luz smiled before they all entered the school, and to put it simply, it was covered in pretty lights and the gymnasium was even prettier, even with a disco ball and a table of snacks and such.

Even someone wearing a backwards cap was playing music.

And needless to say, there were a lot of people there. Some of them were talking, and some were dancing.

"Wow! You're right! People do get here early." Luz smiled as she and the others walked inside.

"I'll be at the snack table! Cya soon!" Gus said as he walked over.

Luz smiled before she and Willow just began to walk around.

"So, thinking of dancing with anyone?" Willow asked.

"Hmmm! Maybe!" Luz said with a shrug before she caught a glance of someone, but then looked away...before immediately snapping her head back around.

There were three people she was looking at. Two of them a boy and a girl slightly older than the third, and they seemed to be twins. The boy was wearing a gray and yellow suit, while the girl was wearing a yellow dress.

But finally? Amity was there. Her hair was down, and she wore a black and pinkish purple drown, even with a pink diamond necklace to go with it. She looked a little nervous...and beautiful.

The two she was talking too must've been her siblings.

Luz's face turned bright red. "W-Whoa...Amity l-looks so..."

Willow smirked. "Pretty?"

"Uh-huh." Luz said with a slow nod as Gus walked back over with a cookie in his hand.

"What's with Luz?" Gus asked.

Willow giggled. "She's got the hots for Miss Blight."

"Oh! No way! Ask her to dance, Luz!" Gus smiled.

"What?! I-I can't do that! I'll embarrass myself!"

"But look at her!" Gus exclaimed, making Luz face Amity again. "She's beautiful! This is going to be your one chance!"

"I-I-I...she d-does look...stunning." Luz said.

"Alright! Then off ya go!" Gus said, lightly pushing Luz towards The Blights.

"Gus!" Willow cried.

"I'm saving her love life." Gus said with a smug face.

Luz stumbled around a bit, almost falling near The Blight's feet, but Amity quickly caught her.

"Oh, t-thanks!" Luz laughed, standing up.

Amity smiled. "No problem!" She then looked at Luz and her cheeks turned red. "W-Wow...you look really nice."

Luz blushed a little more. "T-Thanks again."

Then, the older girl cleared her throat. "Aren't ya gonna introduce us to your girlfriend, Mittens?"

Amity's face turned red. "Emira!!!"

Emira laughed. "Well, I'm Amity's older sister, Emira. And this is my twin brother, Edric."

Edric waved. "Sup."

Luz smiled and rubbed the back of her neck. "Well, I'm Luz!"

"Nice to meet ya, Luz! Treat our sister well, ok?" Edric joked.

"You cannot survive without jokes, can you?" Amity asked, unamused.

"You can't survive without your Azura books." Emira told her.

Amity coughed, blushing a little more. "Alright, j-just go prank someone or something."

"Already on it!" Emira smirked as she and her brother left.

Luz blushed a little more before the music in the background was replaced with slow and classical music. This was her chance.

She slowly lifted her hand out. "Umm...may I have this dance?"

Amity was a little surprised, but she smiled and nodded, taking Luz's hand and slowly wrapping her arms around her neck. "Y-You may."

Luz slowly wrapped her arms around Amity's waist, and the two started to sway their hips around slowly, gently twirling around the dance floor.

The two danced for a long while, their red faces slowly, but surely, disappearing. At least, a little.

Luz then spoke up. "Y-You look really beautiful, Amity."

Amity blushed even more, but giggled. "Thanks. Spent a lot of time picking out a dress. I didn't think I would be dancing with anyone."

"Really? I could imagine a ton of girls or guys would wanna ask you to dance." Luz then chuckled. "Y'know...if you're into girls."

"Oh, umm, I-I-I am." Amity said with a slight blush.

"No judge here. I like girls too." Luz said, feeling a little awkward after saying that.

Amity snorted. "That was stupid. No offense."

"Sometimes stupid is a good thing." Luz laughed before she became curious as they danced, slowly twirling Amity around before they got back to dancing. "So...you read Azura?"

"Umm, yeah. D-Do you?"

"I've only read the first four. Still need to find Book 5 and 6." Luz smiled.

"Oh, you're gonna love them." Amity laughed. "There's a bit of a plot twist."

"No spoilers, please!" Luz smiled.

Amity nodded. "Of course...any favorite parts? I, uhh, don't have anyone to talk too about them."

"Oh! Ummm...I liked her origin story. It was really neat, and her learning magic seemed like a montage in my head."

Amity laughed. "Glad I wasn't the only one who thought that! Book 4 is where it gets interesting."

"They finally introduce the villain! At first, I thought it was just wacky adventures."

"Well, a patient reader is often rewarded."

Luz nodded before she gently dipped Amity and then pulled her back up. "I'm actually happy you came up here."

Amity smiled again. "I like to come here, even if it's just hanging out with my siblings or...siblings."

"What about your friends?" Luz asked.

"Oh, don't really have those. Boscha and her gang were just friends my parents chose..."

"Well...I could be your friend." Luz smiled.

Amity blushed before her smile faltered. "I'm not sure my parents would-"

"Amity. I don't really know your parents, but they can't control you forever. You are your own woman. They don't control your life."

Amity smiled. "I'll...think about that. My dad was always more fair, so? I think he'd approve. He's also a bit of a weirdo."

"Who ya calling weird?" Luz laughed.

"That was a compliment." Amity smirked.

"I know." Luz smiled. "So, friends?"

"Friends." Amity smiled. "Wow...I think we just friendzoned each other."

"Looks that way to me!" Luz laughed.

Gus and Willow just watched with wide smiles on their faces.

"Take a picture, take a picture." Gus whispered.

Willow grabbed her phone and did just that. "Already did- What the?"

She then saw black goop on her phone, which she wiped off. "That was...weird."

"Hey...does that goop look...familiar-" Gus then gasped when he looked up.

He could see a black figure crawling.

Willow gulped. "That's not good."
