Chapter 20: Only Time Can Tell

{Phineas}

It was 2:00 p.m. and Isabella still wasn't here. I was trying not to be worried. I didn't want to be one of those over protective-always-having-to-know type of boyfriends.

"Phineas?"

Candace entered my room and I smiled.

"Hey, Candace! What's up? I thought you were going on a date with Jeremy?" I asked.

Her face scrunched up and I saw little puddles form in her eyes.

"Candace? What's-"

She scooped me in her arms. Tight. "Oh, Phineas! You just came back!"
I hugged her back and then tried to get her off me as I was choking. "C-Candace, I can't b-breathe..." She let go and stared at me. "You better come back soon!"
"What are you talking about?" I asked.
"Stay safe, ok!" She said and then left the room with tears.
"What the..." I shook my head.

Candace had been weird for a long time. Now was not a time to question it.

I called Isabella but her voicemail answered. I frowned. I went downstairs and found Mom, Dad, Jeremy, Candace, and Ferb with Amanda in his lap, sitting with the Captain.

"Captain! What are you doing here?" I smiled.
He smiled softly. "Hey, Phineas. It's time."
"Time for what?" I asked.

I looked at my parents. Mom had gotten up and fixed herself another cup of tea while Dad focused on spreading his butter on the bread. Candace was pouting while she tried to focus on her phone and Jeremy was just staring at her. Ferb was quietly playing with Amanda.

"Ferb!" Vanessa ran into the kitchen, disrupting the silence.

Ferb put Amanda into Dad's lap and pulled Vanessa into a hug.

"You can't go. It's only been three months..." She cried into his shoulder.
"What...what's happening?" I asked.
"Your mission. It's over." Captain answered.
"What? Mission?" I thought back to the spaceship and remembered Ferb getting excited about a wish.

"Wait, wait. Was it about that wish? Who's wish was it? I don't remember granting a wish?" I asked.
"Isabella's." Ferb said as he comforted Vanessa.
"What? I-Isabella?" I asked.
"She was the one who had the pure One True Wish. You granted it yesterday. Now it's time to go." Captain said.
I gulped. "Wait, you mean when I asked her out? That was her wish?"

Captain nodded.

"Wait, but I-"
"There was another person, too." Captain added.
I sat down and rubbed my head. "Explain."

"This Isabella girl wished to have you back. She wished to have you. She also wished for you to help her. And you did. Because of you, she doesn't have to worry about her college tuition or her Mom's hospital bills. Because of you, she doesn't have to worry about that Johnny boy and his rich cousin, Adyson. Because of you, she's not afraid anymore."

I stared at him. "And? That's not a bad thing, is it?"
"No, no it's not. You did your job and now it's over. But...while you guys were here, someone found out about the One True Wishes and used it to try and get what they wanted. They failed but it means that you have to stay longer."
"Stay...longer? Where?" I asked.
"Space, of course. Did you forget you have a job?" He asked.
My eyes went wide and I stood up. "What?!"
"Did you really forget?" He asked.
"Well, n-no, but..."
"But what?"
"How long do we have to stay?"
"Ten years."

Suddenly, Mom, Vanessa, and Candace bursted into tears. Amanda started crying when she saw Candace crying.

"Ten years?! That's too long!"I exclaimed.
"I'm sorry, but we need to keep you two safe." Captain said, regretfully.
"From what?! I can protect myself and I know Ferb can, too!" I shouted.

I didn't like to shout at anyone, especially someone like the Captain who had been like my second Dad, but now I had to leave my family for ten years just for something that wasn't their fault.

"I know you can, Phineas, I know. But you two were given the job for a reason. You have a gift and we need to protect it before someone tries to use it. And if someone tries to get the information about the One True Wishes from you, it'll be a mob." He said.
"We can protect ourselves!" I yelled.
Captain stood up. "But what about your loved ones?! Can you be there to protect them?!"

I gripped my teeth and then sat down. "What's wrong with wishes?"
"What?" He asked.
"I took this job because I could do something I loved which was make people happy. What's so wrong if everyone knows about One True Wishes?"
"Phineas, the world is more than fun and wishes. There's war and death going on. The only thing people have left is hope. Hope for a better world. That's why there are wishes. You know that. You also know that you can't help every wish. If people find out about the power of the One True Wish, they'll use it to, for example, cheat death. It's a powerful thing, those wishes."

I frowned. "When...when do we leave?"
"Now." He said.
I cocked an eyebrow and then spotted my suitcase in the corner. "Why so soon?"
"You still have a job to do, Phineas." He replied. "I'll be waiting in the car.
"Wait! I was gonna go on a date with my girlfriend!" I said.
"Tell her you're rescheduling it in ten years." Then he left.

I pounded my fist on the table.

Mom came over to me with a hug. "Oh, Phineas!"
"Why don't you quit?" Jeremy asked.
"We have a contract." I whispered.
"How long?" Jeremy asked.
"We have to work for at least five years but if there's an emergency...."
"It's extended." Candace finished.
"Wait, wait. So after ten years, you still have three more to complete?" He asked.

I nodded, catching my Mom as she fainted.

Dad took her from me and I tried calling Isabella. Again, it went to voicemail.

Where was she?

"Ferb, I need you to buy me some time." I said.
He looked at me with a questioning look.
"One hour." I answered and then I ran.

I ran to his car and I raced out through the backyard, crashing the fence, in order to avoid Captain's cars.

Fifteen minutes later, I was at the field. Instead of parking, I kept driving. I was getting Ferb's car scratched up but I promised myself to get him a new paint job.

Few minutes into the forest and I found a temple looking building.

I stopped and jumped out of the car.

"Isabella! Are you there?! Do you hear me?!" I ran to the building and groaned as I found the doors to be locked.

I remembered Ferb kept his toolbox in his car and ran to get it.

I grabbed his crowbar and started prying at the door. Finally, it moved and I fell back as the door swung open.

I discarded the crowbar and ran inside.

"Isabella! It's Phineas!" I screamed.

I stared at the walls that seemed to surround me at every corner. I sighed. She didn't seem to be here.

"Phineas?"

I turned around with a smile but sighed when I saw it was Adyson.

She frowned. "Nice to see you, too."
"Sorry, Adyson, it's just...I need to see Isabella." I said and stood up.
"Oh, about Isabella..." She said.
"What? What happened to her?" I asked.
"I saw her and Django come here and...and they were talking and then...Isabella threw herself at Django and they just started making out. I...I'm sorry, Phineas. I think Isabella chose Django." She explained.

My stomach dropped and I frowned. "N-No....Izzy wouldn't do that..."
"I'm sorry, Phineas." She said and hugged me.

I didn't hug back. I just stared at the floor.

"Phineas!" I looked up and saw Captain and Ferb.
Ferb stared at me apologetically.
"Come on, son. It's time to go. Say bye to your girlfriend." He said.
Adyson pulled away from me and blushed, giggling. "Oh, no, I'm not his girlfriend."
I looked down at Adyson and kissed her cheek.

"That was for Isabella since I'm not going to see her for thirteen years. Tell her I love her." I whispered and then left.

Yikes sorry this hasn't been updated in a while I finally figured out how I wanted to end it so just maybe 2 or three more chapters until this ends so byeeeeee
