Behind the Scenes

This special chapter includes fun facts about this story and a little bit behind each promo photo.

The covers.

1. The original.

I liked this cover, and I still do. But, I got a new photo editor not too long ago that I thought was pretty epic, and I made the cover for Wings with that one. And, I wanted each cover in this series, however many books it ends up being, to follow a good theme.

2. Cover for a day.

Most of you have never seen this cover before. While I was trying to remake the cover for Wish to go with the cover for Wings, this was the first one I came up with. Soon after I changed the cover to this story, I started to not like it so much. I had to do a lot of color effects to get her hair color to look close to dark enough to be the dark brown color of Nicole's. (This girl's hair is dirty blonde.) And, I still didn't like the way it turned out. Also, I wasn't very fond of where here hands are in this photo. It's unnatural. And, the background isn't distorted enough to contrast with the Wings cover.

3. The edited one.

This cover finally looked like part of the series. This photo actually did have a background, in a field I think, but once I added all the effects I wanted, it just went away. But, that's not a bad thing. Then I added the text, along with the comment at the bottom that this book is now a series.

4. Current cover.

After changing my username, I wanted to make a new cover. But I wanted a change. Something that showed a little more of what the book is about. I have Nicole's brown and blue eyes at the top to make it a little mystical, and the amulet at the bottom to show that it is an important part of the story. There are feathers behind the title to represent angels, as well as fill up the empty space. I made it easier to read than the #3 cover. And, I think this one looks a bit more professional.

What's the hardest thing about making covers and promo photos?
By far, finding people on Google that are 1, good enough picture quality to turn out good in the end, and 2, actually match the description of your character closely enough to pass as them. The more covers and promo photos you make, finding matches are increasingly difficult. That's why I only showed the face of one girl. I kinda wish I'd chosen a celebrity to be Nicole instead so I would have an easier time finding photos, but oh well. And I like this girl too much anyway.

The promo photos:

1. A walk down the street.

Simple, but it was my first promo photo. And I still like it.

2. Simple but meaningful.

When I wrote this story, I didn't know how it would end. Heck, I didn't even know any more of the plot than the fact that Nicole would somehow make it from one world to the next. It was originally a pencil that caused anything drawn with it to become real, with Daredevil at the center of this book instead of Supernatural, but I couldn't come up with an explanation as to why it possessed this power, or how exactly Nicole would travel from one world to the next. Nicole made an actual wish in this version, but I wanted a realistic reason behind it. So, a friend mentioned something about using Dean's amulet, and that's when the ideas came to me like a waterfall, from chasing after Patrick to turning into an angel. Since Supernatural has so much, from demons to angels to alternate universes, it was the perfect choice. Thanks mmarr128. :)

3. Nicole's facial features.

When I was searching the Internet for more pictures to match Nicole's description, I found this one. At this point I hadn't established her eye color, and the photo I found had one blue eye and one brown eye. Finding this photo fueled the idea of Nicole's Angelic Turning having an effect on her appearance. And, also, adding the swirls to her face took some time to get it to look at least a bit realistic. And, once I'd shown Nicole's face, that meant that, unless I could find another photo of the same girl, promo photos with her face showing were no longer an option. But I thought this photo was awesome, definitely taking a step up from a back view of a girl standing there with a translucent overlay of a pair of wings, or a girl walking down the street with some circles floating around her.

4. Underwater.

One of my favorites, along with number 3. Ever since I decided to give Nicole swirly marks on her face, I decided to incorporate swirls in many of the promo photos to show not only an inhuman power but also a sense of beauty and grace. And underwater photos are epic.

5. The fandoms.

When I made this promo photo, I was thinking of movie posters and their writing at the bottom. I wanted to show a person who hadn't read the story yet what "a fanfiction like no other" and "all of your favorite fandoms combined" really meant. Though a couple of the fandoms I listed at the bottom didn't really have as big of a part in this story as I expected they would, it's still, I think, an accurate enough representation of how much this story consists of. And I thought the feathers were cool.

6. Angel wings.

This photo don't turn out as well as I'd liked. The wings that I used for this photo were at an odd angle, so it was difficult to put them on Nicole in a way that looked natural. I spent a couple of hours searching for a Nicole-like girl standing in a good enough position for these wings, and I ended up showing a bit more of her face than I'd liked, because she doesn't really look that much like Nicole. And the way that the field is, it looks like she has no legs. The longer you look at it, the weirder it looks. But, since I spent so much time on it, I posted the photo anyway.

7. Complex and detailed.

This photo has a lot in it. You've got the swirls that I mentioned earlier. Sam and Dean's faces show that they have an important role in this story (I would have put Cas somewhere, too, but I couldn't find a good picture). There's the Mark of Cain in the sun to show its importance. The first reason why I included it was because it was in my camera roll and I wanted to add something else to the photo, which inspired the idea of Nicole having an important role in removing it. If you look closely at the bottom left corner, you can see Sam and Dean's initials from where they carved them into the Impala (or maybe not, since Wattpad reduces the quality). That was another thing, like the Mark, that I decided to add just because. But I guess it could represent Nicole's Impala ride. :)

8. The eye.

BOOM. I was scrolling through Google, and you have no idea how excited I was to find another picture of the same girl I had used before. Though, this time, both of her eyes were blue. I decided to make the focus of this promo photo the eye that really did turn blue, so I turned the rest of the photo black and white with a couple of cool effects. And yes, I had to add some swirls. :)

9. Gaining wings.

I used this photo again since I had a super cool idea. Since I had to pay money to use the effect that changes eye color, I decided to stick with the two blue eyes. Then, that gave me the idea to cause her other eye to turn to blue once her Angelic Turning had finished. And, I decided that blue, instead of white, was a good color to represent Turned Angels. And I like the color blue.

10. Silhouette swirl.

I thought a silhouette photo would be pretty cool, though when I stare at this one, my head hurts as I try to decide which direction she's facing. Either way, her posture isn't so great. Also, I thought it was a bit dull, so I decided to add some swirls, and then I got a little carried away...

So, now you know that much of my inspiration for this story came from making the promo photos.
What's your favorite promo photo?

Nicole

So, where did the inspiration of Nicole's character come from? Since I want to be in her shoes, with meeting all of my favorite characters and stuff, I based part of her character off of me. Only a smidge. (Another reason why I did that was because I suck at character development, so this was a bit easier.) As I continued to write the story, her character got farther and farther from being my own overtime, such as being more brave, being adopted, and having a bit less of a filter on saying what she thinks. But, at least the words she says are better than mine because I'm just a weirdo. I've just done a good bit of adjusting on her character to better fit the plot of the story.

Choosing fandoms

How did I decide on the different places that Nicole visited when the amulet was throwing her from one universe to the next, as well as when she was crossing bridges with Castiel? Most of them are either my favorites, or I thought the characters would be fun to write about. Though, a few of them were solely based on the fact that I'd watched that movie or TV show the previous day, so it was fresh on my mind. I started throwing so many different fandoms in that I began to wonder if it was too many, especially for the readers who haven't been introduced to some of them before. Who knows if it really is?  :)

Nicole's parentage

At first, I had never considered the idea of Dean being Nicole's father. It was just one of those ideas that hit me one day like a brick wall--a very exciting brick wall. I didn't care that having a fictional character as the main character's father was cliché; it sounded like a great plot twist that opened the door to several more ideas. And, some of Nicole's comments sounded a lot like Dean, so I wanted a good reason why.
