Orphans Lost pt. 3

~+Drive to the Police Station+~

The three kids sat in the back of the police car with their eyes looking forward. Lucille has taken to looking at the man, Tord, driving the car. His looks similar to the teenager who talked to her during Tika's dance. Yet she didn't comment about it.

As for Lawrence, he was looking at Tom from his seat. He sometimes glanced at the rear view mirror to check on them and sometimes hummed to the radio.

"I like your humming," Tika compliments to evade the longing silence to the station. "It reminds me of someone doing the same when I was younger."

Tom looks back with a soft smile of his face. "Thank you. By any chance do you know the person who used to do that for you? We could try to contact them for you." He hoped he could find them to give these three a home.

Tika shook her head with a downcast look. "No... I don't remember their name or face. I can only remember hearing them when I was half asleep."

She could only recall the similar humming while she slept. Her dreams were just dark but with the light of music to accompany her loneliness.

Tord pulls up to the station's parking lot and turned the car off when parked. All of them exit the car to head inside where Tika and her twin siblings look around in awe. They've never really been in a police station before.

"Mama!" The Twins looks to the call coming from a little boy who runs over to hug an older woman similar to him. "I missed you!"

The woman smiles as she hugs the boy. "I'm glad you're safe."

The two officers who were standing behind the boy smile with happiness. "Don't stray off now sonny. You don't want to lose your mom anymore."

Tika notices their expressions of sadness and a little pinch of envy. She could tell they wished for family as well, to be able to have loving parents if they were lucky to have both of them. They were not far off from her since she wished for the same as well.

They all wanted a place to call home after all.

Tom and Tord brought them to a larger adjacent room after going down a few halls. Desks were arranged neatly into sections while two larger desks  were stationed farther back across from one another.

"Okay, I am going to need to see you first." Tom said offering a hand to Tika.

Tika looks at him hesitantly before looking at her siblings. "What about my siblings?"

"They will be fine, Tord will watch them while I talk to you." Tom brings his hand back to his side when Tika doesn't take it. "We'll be in view of them so you won't have to worry."

Tika nods and follows Tom over to the back of the room where the two larger desks are. They sit on the left desk, Tom on the chair behind the desk while Tika sat in the on in front.

Tom pulls out a pen and a notepad, "Alright, I'm going to ask you some questions and you have the right to keep what you want private. This will also be done with your siblings, is that alright?"

After some thought Tika allows him with another nod of her head.

"Okay, then can I know your name if you have one?" Tom starts off.

"My name is Tika."

"How did you get this name?"

Tika thought about it some, a faint voice saying her name in the back of her head, as if she could remember who had told her name to her. "I... I recall slightly that someone told me. I have no memory of this person just a whisper of their voice lingers."

Tom rests his arms on the desk looking at Tika thoughtfully. "Is this person the same one who hums to you?"

Tika shakes her head, "They're different..."

"How about your younger siblings, do they recall anything before you ended up on the streets?"

"Lawrence and Lucille are young but they sometimes tell me they hear someone lulling them to sleep in their dreams. I want to believe it's a memory but I cannot say for sure." Tika remembers the twins telling her about someone they cannot see singing for them like someone hums for her in the dark. Unlike the humming, they actually have lyrics to their melody.

"So I am right to assume you three have no memory of your past." Tom states resting his pen down after writing a couple things down on his notepad.

"Yes sir."

"Then that will be the end of my questions Tika. Thank you for complying to answer them." Tom said in thanks to the girl.

However, before Tom could switch Tika for one of her siblings, she stops him to asks a question. "If I may ask a question."

Tom raises a brow a bit surprise but allows it. "Yes?"

"Do you by any chance have a child of your own? That looks similar to you?" Tika wanted to know if the teen she had acted with earlier was related to this man. Likely they are related if they look so similar, their eyes say so.

An expression of realization makes it way to the officer's face. "You must be talking about Tomi." He pulls open one of his cabinets and takes out his folder to pull out a photo of him. He sets it on the desk to show to Tika. "He's not related to me. A lot of people assume so at first glance until we answer their questions. He's a resident troublemaker in our area and often comes here for vandalizing private and public property."

Tika picks up the photo to hold next to Tom and does see the similarity as well as the little difference. Tom held a little more masculinity than the boy finally named to her. Tomi may wear a hoodie but it still gives some assumption on his figure and slightly feminine looks.

"Does he have a family?"

Tom gives her a sad smile, "No, he's an orphan like you and your siblings. Living on the streets but he manages to get by."

"Oh." It was all she could say as she gives the photo back to Tom. At the same time realizing that Tomi had only one bag and not another at the time he gave her the bag of fruits.

Instead of eating them all for himself, he gave the food to them.

Now Tika can't help but feel a bit bad for accepting the bag as she comes to realize the other teen now has nothing to eat.

"Tika?"

Brought out of her mind, Tika looks at Tom with understanding eyes. "What Tomi does is always for the best of others... even if he is a trouble maker." He felt the need to tell her that before she got sent off to the front where her siblings wait for her.

In exchange, Lucille went to Tom next with the help of a friendly female officer that guided her to Tom.

Tika sat next to her brother and comforts him with a pat on the head. He leans his head into her hand with a relaxed smile which she couldn't help smiling back to.

She then took the time to survey her surroundings. The people in this room were all very relaxed from what she could tell. Overhearing a friendly conversation being spoken just to her right by the windows. Some of the officers laughing while others decided to type away at their computer.

She looks to Tom's police partner who stood to the left of Lawrence's chair. He kept a straight face as he also seemed to keep a tracking eye on the people in the room of what's going on.

It took another couple of minutes after Lucille was done talking to Tom for Lawrence to finish his conversation with him as well.

After some consulting between Tord and Tom they came back to where the three children were seated. Tom went on one knee to be at eye level with them while Tord remained standing behind him.

"Everything turns out as each of you have said. If possible, I would like to check something on Lucille and you Tika. Your brother Lawrence here showed me a mark he has." Tom told them with some held back strain in his tone. It's like he didn't want to believe something.

Lawrence looks at his big sister, "I told him about the mark."

Tika sighs and leans over to Lucille. She holds her hand out to the young girl who knowingly puts her right hand in hers. "Lucille has her mark here." Tika turns Lucille's arm up to show her wrist.

Her twin has a similar mark on his left wrist, but with a difference.

Tika noticed the way Tom seem to bit at his bottom lip. As for Tord, this officer eyes seem to widen some in shock or surprise.

"Where is yours?" Tord speaks for the first time since they got to the station.

Tika moves her ponytail aside to reveal her own mark clear as day behind her neck.

|||||1KSR0N|||||

Tom clenches his hand into a fist. "Tika, why didn't you come to the police for help earlier. The three of you could have found a nice home with help."

Tika lets her ponytail fall back into place with a small smile. "No one would want to adopt the three of us. We've been placed in a orphanage before... but no one wants us all together. Lucille and Lawrence could be together but they would not go anywhere without me like I cannot go without them." She opens and closes her hands on her lap. "As I grew older, now one wants a big kid. So I made the decision for us to leave even if we knew what we were getting into."

Tom got up as he kept a calm look to his face. "You three please wait here until I get everything handled. I'll be back with Tord in a moment."

The two officers return to their desk but don't take a seat. Tom really seemed to be thinking hard over the matter while those silver eyes from his partner watched him carefully.

"What do you intend to do going on from here? I can tell you don't want to send them to the orphanage." Tord for all that is good recognized their marks. He hadn't even seen them for ten years but if he looked back on his old files from his actual work then their would be no mistaking their identity. They were just older now than from way back then.

Tom places a hand on his hip after giving it a good long thought. "I'm going to be the one who takes them in."

Tord's eyes widen, "What?! Witness the responsibility of taking them in-!" He says in exclamation but careful not to let those in the room hear their conversation.

The man was going to contact his soldiers to retrieve them after checking them throughly from the old files he had back at his apartment. If they truly are his lost experiments he needs to bring them back to base for reexamination.

Unlike his first two experiments he lost, these three are full human.

"I can take care of them Commie. I have a stable job with regular paycheck coming in for me to take care of them. And there is no way I am splitting them up." Tom lets out a frustrated sigh as Tord is giving him his stern look when they don't agree.

While they continued to talk about the subject at hand at their desks, the kids were approached by some of the other officers who noticed the very concerning talk between their their captain and co-captain.

"Hey kids, do you want us to get you anything to eat? Mom and Dad over there seem like they're going to go at it for awhile." A blond officer said to them with an amused expression on his face.

"Mom and Dad?" Lawrence repeats in question looking the two officers confused.

The one with black hair nods, "In this Department we refer to our captain and co-captain with parent title because they tend to act like them a lot. But we usually call them Blue or Red when they're not being parents."

Tika looks between the two officers after the small explanation. "Um... sure. But can we know your names?"

"The name's Reggie Hart at your service young lady." The green eyed blond introduces himself with a friendly smile.

The other one with black hair and blue eyes shoes a smaller smile unlike his friend's grin. "Zack Milford. We're Blue's, or rather, Officer Thompson's friends."

"It's nice to meet you," Tika says with a smile shown in return. "I'm Tika, and these two are my twin siblings, Lawrence and Lucille."

"Law and Luci for short if you don't want the mouthful." Lawrence says to allow them to call him and his sibling by the shorter form. Not a lot of people like calling them by the long form of their name.

Reggie waves his hand at them," Thanks kid. If we're done here Zack and I are going to go get you guys some grub to eat! I'm sure you guys want a nice hot meal since it's getting late. We'll be back in a bit."

The kids watch Reggie usher his police partner through the department door with one last wave before they leave them be.

Not long after, surprisingly, they heard someone trying to get their attention.

"Psst- Hey."

Tika and the twins look to the doorway again to see an all too familiar face of the younger version of Officer Thompson standing in the doorway. He teen who had given them the bag of fruits.

"Tomi?" Tika said as she gets up from her seat slowly.

Tomi raises a brow in confusion. "Did I tell you my name last time we met?" He was sure he didn't say his name to them. He just offered them the bag of fruit and left them be.

Tika kinda shrugs her shoulda giving a shy smile. "I kinda asked Officer Thompson about you."

"Pfft," He waves his hand in a knowing gesture. "Of course Mom would inform you about me." The three younger kids didn't know it but Tomi had rolled his eyes while saying so.

Tomi glances at the spot where said Officer is still in a heated and distracting conversation with another one he didn't see all too clearly with the taller man standing in front of him. He looks back at three he needed tending to.

"What are you guys doing here anyways?"

"Officer Thompson and his partner, Officer Lawson, came to us because they wanted to ask us a few questions." It was her turn to raise a brow to give questioning look at him. "What about you? What are you here for? Did you get in trouble?"

Tomi shakes his head, "No, I just happened to see you three get in the car with Mom when I was passing by. I thought I could help you guys out, but I guess I shouldn't have worried too much."

Tomi was going to check if they were being locked in for something. Then he would have gone to Torm for help if the other could agree in doing so.

"Ah! That's right!" Tika says as she remembers something from her conversation with Tom earlier. "You gave us the bag of fruits, but this was the only bag. Officer Thompson helped me realize your an orphan as well living on the streets."

Tomi held his gaze with her mismatched ones in return.

"Why did you give us this bag when you're obviously hungry too?"

"I make do, it's not like I haven't gone without eating before just like yourself." He had noted she was far too skinny for anyone's liking. Tomi could tell she's been feeding the younger ones since they seemed more cared for than the girl younger than him. "What's more important is taking care of those younger than myself. No one should suffer from another's selfishness."

And like that, Tika had taken his words to heart.

She found herself looking up to him slowly as a big brother. Not fully but it's a start. She can't just trust him fully since he's still a stranger she had only met and learned little about today.

"I'm curious, how did you even get food from the market? It's not like you stole them."

"A friend of mine..." Tomi looks off to the side with a small distant gaze. "He provides me with some money to get food. I always try to take little as possible when he offers because he's also an orphan like us."

"Oh," Left her mouth quietly.

"Tomi? Did you get in trouble again?"

The group of children turn to the familiar voice of the kind officer looking at Tomi with surprise. Behind him is his police partner Tord who did not seem happy meaning he must have lost whatever conversation he was having with Tom.

Tomi shook his head, "I didn't Mom, I just happened to see you with these three getting into the police car. They're not in trouble are they?" He just wanted to reconfirm his question from before.

Tom sighs as he rests his hands on his hips. "No Tomi, they're not in trouble. But they are getting adopted together so they don't live on the streets anymore. It's dangerous for them, especially the twins."

The older teen places his hand over his chest with a relief. Tord watching the teen who had called his exflatmate 'Mom' with a calculating look. 'So this is the one Tom's been keeping track of.' Tord thought to himself. Again the lingering familiarity pecking at the back of his head again. He'll have to check if this is possibly another one of his lost experiments.

Tika looks at Tom a bit uncertain, "Who accepted adopting all three of us? It a bit unreal to me."

Tord spoke up, "After some very serious decisions, Thomas here has taken it upon himself to adopt the three of you." He got sided eyed looks from the group of kids. "With the agreement that I take half of the responsibility of helping him support he three of you as well. Thomas is a very busy person since he is the captain of this police department."

The were some wolf whistles around the room.

"It finally happened!"

"Mom and Dad are together!"

"Adopting three together is proof! Janice, pay up!"

There was some laughter more when Tom turns around to face them with a rosy blush coloring his cheeks. "Children!"

Some gave him some playful smiles while others continued having fun like popping some blown up paper bags.

While Tom tries to regain control of his officers Tord is left merely shaking his head with his hand over his face.

Tord pulls his hand off his face and looks at the kids again. "I'll explain some rules to the three of you when we bring you over to our apartment building." He glances at Tom as he regains control of the room. "Until then stay put."

"Instead of staying put," Tom said hearing what Tord told them, "You three can hang around with Tomi if you want. Tord and I work until later in the evening so I don't want you guys hold up in here bored. You three should have some fun." He looks to Tomi with a unsure smile. "That's if you're okay with spending time with them?"

"I don't mind Mom." His expression softened as he finds himself unable to say no to the man. A unknowing soft spot he made for the man as they came to know more about each other over the years. He looks at Tika, Lawrence, and Lucille. "Come on, I'll introduce you three to my friend."

Tom waves them off while Tord gives a little huff after placing his hands in his front pants pockets.

"I didn't think you'd want to take care of kids Tord." Tom said once the four were out of sight, having left through the open doorway of their department. He glances at Tord, "What made you decided to take half the responsibility?"

The norwegian man rolls his eyes. "Who knows what you'd do without my help."

"I can take care of myself just fine, Commie. The children included."

"Say that to me again a few weeks Witness." Tord said as he turns around to head back to their desks. "I'm pretty sure you'll be thanking me by the end of the week."

It was then Tom's turn to roll his eyes, same old Tord. The red officer always thinks he's so helpless, that he could not win a fight against him.

Tom would proudly go against him fight and win with everything he's got.

~+Outside Police Station+~

Tika and her siblings followed Tomi out through the doors of the building. Surprisingly, there is a another teen, older than all of them standing just across the road with his hands stuffed in his pockets similar to Officer Lawson.

He wore a red hoodie jacket with a ring checker design around both sleeves. Pants black similar to his shoes. Covering the bottom half of his face is a red mask as if to hide his identity. What really caught the siblings' attention was the mask over his eyes.

Red digital eyes a lit to show the expression of his real eyes underneath.

Tomi noticed him right away and brought the three over to him to introduce the new acquaintances.

"Tomi..."

"I know, but I didn't get in trouble. I went to check on them is all." Tomi said with a knowing tone. He leaves the siblings side to take his place next to Torm's.

He can't help but relax in his presence after everything that happen so far. He had never really entered the police station so willingly without getting in trouble before. His nerves a bit shaken up but seeing Tom had calmed him.

Torm then gives his attention to the siblings of three. "You three-"

Only two words out of his mouth yet the younger girl, the female twin goes to him. Her shy trait still evident even if she's pinching the end of his jacket sleeve.

"Lucille!" Lawrence exclaims reaching for his sister.

The young girl looks up to Torm with recognition in her expression. Her eyes slightly peeking out from behind her bangs.

Torm lets the corner of his lips curve slightly at the sight of her small bravery. "Yes little one, I remember you from earlier."

Tika's eyes widen, when had her sister met this teen. By the looks of her brother even Lawrence didn't know about this.

"H-How?"

Torm looks at her, digital eyes reflecting his calm mood. He stands straight again and addresses them to follow him. "Not here, let's talk somewhere else away from the station."

Tomi followed after Torm with the siblings in tow. They walk for about a couple of blocks away until they come to an ice cream parlor.

"Tomi, why don't you take the twins and see what ice cream they want." Torm pulls out a couple of bills from his messenger bag to hand to Tomi.

The second oldest doesn't question him and accepts the money. "You two, come along."

The twins look at each other for a moment unsure so they look at their big sister. Tika gives them a nods and pats them softly on the back.

"Go ahead, I'll be close by waiting."

Lawrence takes his twin sister by the hand. Lucille follows his pull as they both follow Tomi to the counter to pick some ice cream.

While they do so, Torm leads Tika over to an open table with a red and white umbrella to shield them from the sun's light. The take a seat from across each other.

"I didn't mean to catch you sister's eye at first." Torm said sitting down on the chair. He looks up to meet Tika's curious sliver and black, "She noticed me behind her when I was coming to take a closer look to see you dancing."

"But that doesn't explain a few thing about you." Tika said sternly while remaining calm with her expression. There was something telling her this person knew then he let on. She could feel it in her gut based on all her instincts she had honed living on the streets for years. "You look familiar... Do I know you?"

Seeing Torm at first gave the female teen a slight ache to her head. A dark hazy memory trying to resurface but kept getting swept away.

Torm pulls down his hood and mask. His lips pulled in a small smile. "Do I look a little more familiar to you yet?"

"You... You look like Officer Lawson." Just like how Tomi very much resembled Officer Thompson.

Torm's digital eyes form a hooded look, eyes half open as he looks to the table. To Tika, he looks as if he's thinking, no- recalling about something.

"Officer Lawson... What a joke." The last part so quiet that Tika would have missed it if she wasn't listening so closely. His right hand comes up to push his mask up to take off completely.

It was then Tika saw the full similarity between Officer Lawson and Torm. It's just, those silver eyes of Officer Lawson has are different from Torm. The older teen's eyes were glazed over, the color of his silver eyes lighter.

"You're... blind."

Torm places his mask on the table while he keeps his small smile. Hands held together on top of the black mask.

"I've been blind a few years after I ran away from home you could say. I got this mask to aid my blindness from the person who... cared for me so to speak." He explains honestly by the way stress on the word supported his claim. "I'll be honest when I say I know my past. It was indeed sad, scary even."

Tika stayed quiet and listens.

"I was an experiment from a lab, a monster made by DNA and added genetics." He looks up from tapping at his mask. "You are an experiment as well along with your siblings. Your marks prove it."

"So then you know who we are?" Tika questions as she had reflexively moves her hand up to cover her mark. She wishes for answers on herself and her siblings. However, those answer may be good or bad, she still wants to know. "If we're experiments then does that mean we're all monsters?"

"Tomi and I are monsters... You and your wards are completely human."

Tika pauses for a moment to take in what he said. She raises a brow inquiry. "Does Tomi know about all this? Our past? About Us?"

Torm shakes his head slowly from side to side. "Tomi is just as clueless to our past than you and the twins. You have faint memories like the twins, correct? Music in form of words or humming."

"How did you-"

"Our second dna donor." Torm says to stop her question since he knows. He knows all of it even from a young age he can understand and comprehend. "Someone you could call a mother. They lived in the room next to the one we were kept in. The walls on his side were thin so we could hear him humming and playing music. Your containment unit was the closest to his room so you often heard him humming or say a word or two."

"Then the twins? They heard words... were they near me during the time?"

"No. The words sung to them were not from our mother but from our creator, in title: father." Torm seemed to lose his smile after saying that word. It didn't look like he teen was fond of their creator. "Your siblings were stationed on the other side of the room where we were kept in. I used to watch our creator sing quietly sometimes while our unknowing donor played music in the room next to ours."

Tika's hands squeeze at top of her right hand. "You don't seem very happy with our creator..."

Torm merely closes his eyes. "He did many things Tika. Our creator, he's a very deceiving human." He had witness everything since he woke up from being made to completion. From Tomi to the youngest experiments he watched the horrors of their creators plans for them being made. "I cannot forgive him after what had happened to Tomi and I after further experimentation."

Tika turns her head to see Tomi handing two cones with different color ice creams on top for the twins. The teen in blue smiling at them, a real one and childish. Innocent, the only word to describe him.

"Although, I feel bad for escaping without any of you. But I needed to plan ahead and figure out a way for all of us to be free." Torm adds as he reopens his eyes. He had wanted to take Tomi and the three human experiments with him yet there were complications at the time. He and the others were still young and new. Unsure of how to handle the unknown world they would be thrown into.

"I had planned to come back to rescue all of you but I found that room stripped of everything hiding us. I assumed you all had been moved." The devilish teen picks his mask back up and wraps it back around his eyes. Red digital eyes settling on her form once again. "A few years later I met Tomi and now here were are."

Tika takes a breath and moment to recollect all this new information. "Who would have thought."

"Indeed."

"Then how do you feel about our other donor?" Tika asks awhile after some silence.

"I cannot judge them for anything, they've done nothing wrong. If anything, he's only provided comfort for all of us when we were in that room."

The humming and soft spoken words of singing coming through the walls slightly muffled were what Torm looked forward to in the dim room. Tomi back then also loved to hear the tunes from their so called mother. The young teen sometimes humming along to lift the darkness he and Torm had to endure.

While the oldest ones were awake, Tika, Lucille, and Lawrence were always kept unconscious in their containment pods. The light blue glow from their pods added dimly to the room's light every now and then with quiet beepers from their monitors.

"I've seen glimpses of him when Tomi's with him getting released from the police station. I only trust him to look after his well being if he got into too much trouble." He noted Tomi and the twins getting closer. A tug at the corner of his lips forms a smirk. "He's a troublemaker after all."

"Tormy!" Tomi says with a huff hearing his recent comment. A cute pout settling on his face while the twins on either side of him lick their ice cream.

"It's not like what I said is untrue." He plucks Tomi's ice cream out of his hand and gives it a lick up. "Vanilla, my favorite."

"I thought you liked Strawberry more?"

"And you like Blueberries and Grapes but you got an agreeing flavor for the both of us." Torm remarks as he offers the ice cream back to Tomi. The teen in blue takes it back to eat some of it with a resigned look. "Anyways," He said putting his attention back on Tika. "If you want to talk to either of us, just look for Tomi. He's always walking about where people can see him in the morning. I'm a bit harder to find since I tend to avoid crowds."

Tika nods in understanding before she looks at the two older teens with gratitude after learning a few things from them. "Thank you."

Torm smiles at her before pulling his lower mask back up again.

"Of course, Tika."
