I'll Be Here - Always

Moon rushed through the halls of Jade Mountain with a glass of water in one talon, trying carefully not to spill it. She apologized when she bumped a few dragons, but she couldn't slow down to talk with them. Even when she spotted Kinkajou, she didn't even hesitate. The RainWing was watching Moon run, and soon she was following the distressed NightWing.

"Where are you going?" she asked Moon curiously. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," Moon said, and this time it was true. She had lied to her friends many times before, saying that she was alright when a pounding headache was overcoming her, but this time she wasn't lying. She was fine.

Winter was not.

He was bedridden with a high fever. Normally Moon wouldn't have been so worried, but him being an IceWing, fevers were more dangerous. On top of that, he was her boyfriend, so she was extremely worried for him. He was hardly responding to anything Moon said or did to him, and that was scaring her a lot.

"Winter is sick," Moon said, reading the series of confused thoughts that she'd set off in Kinkajou's mind. "Really sick." She spun around one corner, entered a cave, and knelt by the prince.

Winter's eyes were closed, and his breathing shallow. He was shivering uncontrollably, and he was tucked into a small ball, which made Moon feel even worse.

"Winter?" the NightWing said. "Winter, I have water for you. Do you think you can sit up and drink it?"

The IceWing coughed once, and Moon glanced back at Kinkajou, who's eyes were wide her body tense. Moon looked back to Winter, who's eyes had opened and he was struggling to sit up.

Moon helped him sit, then gave him the water. He drank it slowly, shivering. Moon felt extremely crushed as he gave her back the water and swayed a little. She put her arms around him and helped him lie back down.

"Please be alright," she whispered. "Please be alright soon. I don't want you to leave me like this."

Winter made a sound that sounded like a scoff, and Moon pulled back. He was watching her carefully, with a tiny smile on his face. "I'm not going to leave you like this. This is just a sickness that I'll easily overcome."

Kinkajou nodded behind Moon. "He won't die like this. I know it's dangerous for IceWings to have fevers, especially ones this high, but he'll be alright. ... Right?"

"Right," Winter said, still looking at Moon. "Don't worry, Moon." He looked like he was about to say something else, but he broke into a series of coughs that made Moon flinch.

"I can't help that," the NightWing said. "I can't help but worry about you. I almost always worry about you."

"Well, stop," Winter coughed. "I'm fine, I will be fine, and ... and I'll be here - always."

At those words, Moon felt comforted. She knew that Winter would be okay. He was a tough IceWing. He would be alright.

And he would be there - always.

And so would she, especially for him.
