Question of the day: why does your journey matter to you personally?

So, Czechia journey is fighting with countries he doesn't like in order to save countries he also doesn't like. Why would he do that?

Initially Czechia tells his sister that he's not participating in the war, BUT when he hears about the hardships the people living in those countries are experiencing, he changes his mind. Fighting in this war matters to him personally because when he thinks about the millions of people suffering at the hand of the enemy, he thinks about all the hardships that his people have gone through throughout history, and well as himself personally and his sister. That's why he swallows his hatred for the countries he's working with; the people being affected are innocent. That's what he's fighting for.
