I was doing some late night research for my Hetalia fanfic, like normal people do, and I realize that, while the Kingdom of Bohemia eventually turns into Czechoslovakia... The history is not fully the same for Czechia and Slovakia

Basically, my versions of Czechia and Slovakia start with the Great Moravia Empire. This empire is succeeded by the Duchy of Bohemia, which joined the Holy Roman Empire. He's raised to a kingdom, becomes part (and leader) of the Crown Lands of Bohemia, and when the Holy Roman Empire dissolves (rip), the Kingdom of Bohemia eventually merges with the Kingdom of Austria, which then merges into the Austria-Hungary Empire. When that falls, Czechoslovakia emerges, and after another world war and Soviet oppression, they split into their respective nations.

However, Slovakia's history is different and it excites me.

So, Slovakia still starts with the Great Moravia Empire, BUT instead of Slovakia's land being apart of the Duchy of Bohemia, it becomes part of the Principality of Hungary. This is eventually the Kingdom of Hungary, and then the Kingdom of Hungary merges with Austria.

Even though this is a change of plans to what I originally planned I'm so in love with it

I have two Hetalia fanfics planned. The one I'm currently working on is from the points of view of Czechia, China, and Canada. Every 5 chapters you get a glimpse Czechia's past

The next book is from the points of view of Slovakia, Russia, and America. But because I originally had Slovakia's history as the same as Czechia, I didn't know what to do for the history lesson every 5 chapter. Now I have different material to work with

Plus, it'll be so cool that when Austria and Hungary merge, they both bring along siblings that got split up cause of war and stuff :3

This also works in favor with Czechia's backstory. Czechia is transgender but this personal decision was set in motion by Holy Rome mistaking young Czechia as a little boy and taking her to train as a soldier. From then on Czechia thinks of himself as male and it feels right (that's kinda of what separates him being transgender from Hungary's gender-confusion; Hungary thought she was a boy but realized she wasn't and now accepts she's female- when Czechia realized he was physically female he decided he wasn't meant to be a girl and stuck with male pronouns).
Austria will be know Czechia as male and when Slovakia sees her "sister" again centuries later, he'll be male and since it was so long ago Slovakia will be like, "I thought I had a twin sister... eh but you look like Czechia my b" and everyone will think he's biologically male until after WWII
