Proving the Mandela Effect
Okay, who here has heard of the Mandela Effect?
If you haven't, let me do a quick explanation.
The Mandela Effect is basically a conspiracy theory that states that at some point in history, we crossed and switched with a parallel universe/dimension.
It's named the Mandela Effect because many remember Nelson Mandela, an activist from South Africa, who fought the apartheid and eventually became president of said country, dying at a much earlier date than when he actually did, and when he DID pass away, many people were shocked to learn he had been alive all that time.
Many people believe that it's because the Nelson Mandela in OUR universe did die at an earlier date, but when we crossed with the parallel universe, THEIR Nelson Mandela was still alive and therefore he lived into this century.
Now, I know that sounds like a bit of a stretch, similar to how many people claim to remember 9/11 happening on September 10th (you either have horrible memory or are just stupid), but there are a lot of smaller incidences that make this theory seem a little more plausible.
I think the one that bothered me and my sisters the most was the Berenstein Bears.
If you had a childhood, you know that this family of bears taught very valuable lessons about life to children all over.
And everyone I have spoken to about this remembers it as the Berenstein Bears.
Well, in reality, it's the Berenstain Bears.
And there are several other cases like this.
For example, everyone's heard references to the show Sex in the City.
It's actually Sex AND the City, but everyone calls it the prior because that's what they remember.
Anyone know the famous saying, "Mirror, mirror on the wall," from the Disney movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarves?
Wrong.
The correct quote is, "Magic mirror on the wall," But NO ONE remembers it that way.
That sh*t has been quoted OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND NO ONE IS SAYING WHAT IT ACTUALLY SAYS
So, going back to the theory, many people believe that we remember this way because it used to be what it was (Bearstein, Sex in the City, and "Mirror, mirror"), but when we crossed with the other universe, it became Bearstain, Sex and the City, and "Magic mirror", because those were the small variations that made the two worlds different.
Now, here is the one that me and my sisters felt the need to prove.
In Star Wars, everyone, whether you're a fan of the movies or not, knows the famous quote, "No, Luke, I am your father." That sh*t is put on t-shirts and everything. EVERYONE REMEMBERS IT THAT WAY. My dad, who is the BIGGEST Star Wars nerd, often uses that quote on us.
Just kidding.
The actual quote is, "No, I am your father."
He does not say Luke, despite the fact that everyone remembers it that way.
I was in denial, and here was my reason why.
Everyone who has seen the Toy Story movies knows that in the second movie, during the elevator fight, Zurg reveals to the new Buzz Lightyear that he is his father.
And I swore to my sisters up and down that Zurg said, "No, Buzz, I am your father." Trying to be a direct parody to the Star Wars movies.
We put it to the test. Michelle recorded everything on SnapChat, and we went back and watched that scene in Toy Story 2 to see if I was right.
AND. I. WAS.
Disney's Pixar incorrectly quoted Star Wars, and I promise that they didn't do it on purpose.
Now, as weird as this theory is, I'm not quite sold on it, but I do think it's very interesting to think about. It actually legitimately freaks out my sister and her boyfriend. Like, they lose sleep over it. I just thought I'd share this stuff with you because I think it's pretty cool.
