I'm back
I guess spoilers for the movie but it's been out for 17 years so is it really that big of a deal?
I watched the movie.
It wasn't scary... It was creepy.
Like, during the scenes were you could hear 'footsteps' (those weren't freaking footsteps that witch was smacking stones together or something it sounded like gunshots and it was echoing), never have I ever wanted human contact so badly. Just, someone to hold onto. Never have I ever wanted that since I can remember.
And there was a lot of cussing. I mean, that's probably the only reason it's rated R and not PG-13. Because there really is only one scene where you can see blood. And it wasn't that bad.
I think the scariest part was when you could hear Josh shouting in the distance and you knew the witch was like clawing at him or something it was just absolutely horrible.
And then the last night where you could hear Josh calling to them, but part of you believes Josh is dead, so you're convinced it the witch who's calling and just copying Josh's voice.
And he's screaming in the house and they're running through it searching for him and you can see the bloody hand prints of all the children...
I was crying, but not necessarily because I was scared. It was more like the movie was literally driving me insane. I kept waiting for something to happen, waiting for something to pop out, waiting for someone to die, and it just didn't.
And everything was unnerving. The rock pile graves, the wooden figures hanging in the trees, the fact that they walked south all day and ended up in the same spot as the night before, where they were attacked.
My sister and her boyfriend thought it was stupid (granted, they've seen stuff like Sinister and Insidious and Oculus), but I had tears on my face it was just unsettling.
It was not scary at all, but it was disturbing in all the right ways so that it was just enough to eff with you.
