Chapter 2 - Learning to Trust

Chapter 2 –

"So what you're saying is, you're a vampire." Bucky says making me cock an eyebrow at him in surprise. "What? Don't be so surprised. I read. Plus, I've met some vampires before. Although they weren't as pretty or as nice as you."

"Your flattery is unwanted." I say quickly causing him to nod slightly. "You're right about one thing though, most are not as nice."

"You don't like me, do you?" He asks as he lifts a spoonful of goulash into his mouth.

"It's not that I don't like you," I pause as I drum my fingers back and forth on the table.

"You just don't want to get close to me, you know, just in case I die somehow." He states making me stare at him.

"I don't want you to get the wrong idea here." I start as I lean forward onto the table. "I'm not a normal vampire, if you've noticed, while others of my kind slaughter your kind, I tend to protect them." I motion to him and he nods.

"So you have a soft spot for humans, there's nothing wrong with that." He says reassuringly making me smile softly.

"It is if you're a vampire." I state making him nod.

"Well it's their loss." He says a playful smile filling his lips.

"Why are you trying so hard?"

"Trying so hard to do what?"

"To make friends with me, be nice to me; I'm not exactly friendly."

"Well, not at first, but I think I'm getting under your skin."

"That's not a good thing." I say folding my arms over my chest.

"Whatever you say Doll."

"Don't do that."

"What?"

"Don't call me Doll, I gave you a name to call me, I'd like it if you'd use it." I say making him hold his hands up in surrender.

"Yes ma'am."

"Thank you."

"I have some questions,"

"I don't have answers."

"Then tell me something. Anything." He says and I let out a heavy sigh.

"About what?" I ask leaning back in my chair my fingers drumming the tabletop again.

"Explain vampires and lycans to me. I'm not one hundred percent caught up on legends and myths, that was more Steve's thing."

"I know you won't stop asking, no matter how many times I tell you it's dangerous. So, I'll keep it simple. Pay attention." I sat there for what seemed like forever explaining the Vampire/Lycan war, how it all started, why there was such deep-rooted hate between them. I even explained the different types of vampires. There are the purebloods, the Dhampir, and the made; although making a vampire is not as easy as it sounds, only purebloods were allowed to make new vampires. That's not to say the made wouldn't try to make more, they'd just be punished for such, that was if they were caught.

"Which category do you fall under?" He asks and I freeze.

"I don't fall under any of them. I'm... different." I reply my brow furrowing.

"But that's a good thing, right?" He says and I cock an eyebrow at him. "I mean, if you were like any of the other vampires you would have let me die, but you didn't; and that in my book makes you better than them."

"No one's ever said anything like that to me before." I say honestly feeling my face heat up slightly.

"Well they should, because you being a good person is true." He replies and I smile softly. Before either of us has a chance to say anything more a loud knock is heard on the door and I spring to my feet placing myself between him and the door. The mysterious person knocks again and I clench my fist as I turn to Bucky and say, "Hide somewhere."

"But?" He starts only to throw his hand up in surrender upon my glare. "Hiding now." I wait for him to hide, somewhat, behind something as I make my way over to the door.

"Who is it?" I ask as I slowly reach into my coat pocket for something sharp.

"Tá sé dom." The deep voice says and I cock an eyebrow in surprise. I slide the weapon back into my coat and quickly open the door to reveal an old friend of mine.

"Angel, what are you doing here?" I ask as I move out of his way letting him in.

"I followed you from town," He answers tossing his hood back. "And I couldn't help following the smell." I nod knowing he meant Bucky's blood. "What are you doing? You can't stay here."

"I know what I'm doing Angel." I say as I run a hand through my hair.

"They're tracking you," He states and I let out a heavy sigh.

"Which ones?" I ask walking over to sit at the table.

"Victor," He answers and I scratch the back of my neck.

"Well that's just lovely," I say looking around the room.

"You can't stay here, and neither can he." Angel says pointing to where Bucky was now standing revealing himself to Angel. "What happened to him?"

"He fell from a train, lost his arm in the fall."

"How'd he survive? Any normal human would have died."

"I was experimented on by some wacko scientist, maybe that's why I survived the fall." Bucky says moving closer to us only to be stopped by Angel holding his hand up.

"It's best if you don't get too close right now." Angel says his breathing starting to become ragged.

"He's a made, Bucky; it's relatively hard for him to ignore the smell of blood; and you're," I point to his arm and he nods.

"I get the message." Bucky says as he sits as far away from us as possible.

"You have to move," Angel says his eyes finding mine.

"I can't move him." I say running my hand down my face.

"I can't keep throwing them off your trail, Night, you have to keep moving." Angel says and I sigh.

"I will. I just," I pause and sneaking a glance at Bucky start to feel very frustrated.

"Can I speak to you outside for a moment, alone please." Angel asks and I nod. Standing I feel someone grab my shoulder and I turn to see Bucky staring at me with a worried look on his face.

"I'll be right back." I say pulling my arm free from his grasp. I grab my coat and opening the door hear Bucky say, "How do you know you can trust him?"

"I trust him more than I trust you." I say making a look of hurt appear on his face. Shaking my head, I walk outside Angel following closely behind me. Once we are outside and far enough away from the cabin Angel turns to me and asks, "You gave him your blood, didn't you?"

"He would have died without it." I reply my eyes meeting his chocolate ones.

"That was a stupid thing to do (Name)," Angel says and I glare at him. "You don't know what your blood is capable of."

"I couldn't just let him die." I cry out making him narrow his eyes.

"(Name), I know there's something," he pauses glancing back at the cabin before he turns back to me. "Special about him, but you can't just go around giving your blood to people, it could get them killed."

"Are you talking about Victor and his lackeys?" I ask meeting his gaze again. "I'm not afraid of him."

"It's not him you should be afraid of, it's Selene." Angel says and I grit my teeth. "You know how loyal she is to him."

"I know." I reply glancing at the area around us. "How long do I have."

"Couple days at most."

"I'll have to find someone to take care of him." I say and he nods. "Which giving our location is practically impossible."

"We'll figure something out." Angel adds making me cock an eyebrow in surprise.

"We? Last time I checked this was my problem."

"I owe you one (Name)," Angel says his brows furrowing at a memory.

"You don't owe me anything Angel, you needed a friend and I gave you one, and honestly you did the same for me."

"I didn't have many people to turn toward after the curse."

"Yeah, you really weren't in the process of making friends after you were made. More like you were really, really, really hungry." I say trying to lighten the mood.

"I was an asshole."

"I never said you weren't." I add making him smirk.

"What do you want to do?" Angel asks and I sigh. I glance back at the house to see Bucky looking through one of the windows at us.

"We make a plan." I say suddenly feeling very hungry. "He's not gonna like this."

"At least he won't be dead." Angel replies following my eyes.

"He'll never stop looking for me, you know that, the last one didn't." I say looking down at the ground the painful memory filling my mind.

"This is what happens when you give humans your blood."

"Thank you for stating the obvious."

"We'll figure this out." He says as he places a hand on my shoulder. I reach up grasping his hand in mine grip it tightly.

"I know," I say letting out a sigh. "Let's go back in before he starts worry."

"And you care?" Angel asks curiosity filling his voice.

"Surprisingly, yes."
