Trapped
A/N: Detective AU.
Sam's POV
Bucky and I have been on an undercover assignment for a couple days now and we finally got the guy we were after. Well, we haven't exactly caught him yet, but we've identified him.
"Stop!" Bucky called out as we chased the guy.
Our guy had bolted the second we confronted him. Bucky takes a detour to get ahead of our suspect, while I remained on his tail. We were able to corner him in the lowest level of a parking garage.
"Just make this easier on yourself and surrender." I told him.
"Go f**k yourselves!" the guy yelled.
"Nah, we prefer to do that with each other." Bucky replied.
I give my boyfriend a glare as our suspect stares at us confused.
"Wait...are you two...together?" the guy asked us.
"That's none of your..." I began to say.
"Yep." Bucky interrupted.
"Bucky!" I growled.
"Well...I'd hate to end this lovely conversation, but I gotta get going." the guy said reaching into his pocket.
We take out our guns and point it at him.
"Take your hand out of your pocket, NOW!" Bucky told him.
When he takes his hand out his pocket, he was holding a small device.
"Drop the device!" I commanded.
I look up and see small explosive devices on one of the support beams.
"Buck, I think this is a trap." I whispered to Bucky.
Bucky looks to where I'm looking and noticed the same thing I did.
"Push that button and you'll be eating lead!" Bucky said cocking his gun.
"Hehe...if I'm gonna go down...I'm taking you with me." the man chuckled.
The moment he pushes the button, Bucky pulls the trigger and shoots the guy in between the eyes. As he falls to the ground, the bombs go off taking out the support beam. The ceiling cracks and breaks, then the next thing I know, Bucky throws himself over me as the ceiling collapses on us. When I come to, Bucky and I are trapped under a pile of rubble and a car.
"B-Buck? You okay?" I asked my boyfriend.
I was on my back with Bucky on top of me. His face was pressed against the crook of my neck...and I could feel the blood drip from his hairline. The chunks of concrete pressing against Bucky's back had us both pinned down. Also one of Bucky's arms was being crushed, while the other was under my back, his palm against the back of my head. Luckily, I was able to move my arms, so I poked at Bucky's sides to assess his injuries. He had a fractured shoulder, several broken ribs...I hope to god his spine isn't damaged...and he had a gash on his head that was bleeding way too much. Bucky barely responded when I poked at him, I need to do something fast. I press one of my hands to the gash on Bucky's head to attempt to slow down the bleeding, and with the other I dig my phone out of my pocket.
"Oh, good, it's not broken." I sighed relieved.
I dial 911 and tell the dispatcher everything that happened and who Bucky and I were.
"M-my partner and I are trapped under a collapsed section of a parking garage...a-and my partner's injured...severely. We need help." I told the dispatcher.
"Alright, Detective Wilson, we've tracked your location and are now sending a medical team your way. Just hang on and try to stay on the line with me." the dispatcher replied.
After an agonizing twenty minutes, help arrives and frees us from the rubble. Then we were immediately taken to the hospital. I ended up having minor injuries like scrapes and bruises...but Bucky was in emergency surgery.
"Please be okay, baby." I wept putting my head in my hands.
"Sam!" Steve said entering my hospital room.
He hugs me then pulls away and sits into the chair next to my bed.
"I heard what happened, are you and Bucky okay?" Steve asked.
"I just have some scrapes and bruises, but the doctors are keeping me in this room to monitor my lungs...to make sure I didn't breathe in any debris." I answered.
"But...what about Bucky?" Steve asked worriedly.
"I-I...I'm not quite sure...he was hurt pretty bad. He threw himself on top of me and took the brunt of it. He saved me, Steve, and now he might be....oh god I don't even wanna think about it." I explained crying at the end.
Steve hugs me again and bury my face into his chest.
"It's gonna be okay, Sam. Bucky's a tough ol b*stard, he's too stubborn to die." Steve said gently patting my back.
"But it's my fault...I should've seen that it was a trap. He got hurt protecting me!" I sobbed.
I cried for several minutes, then some nurses come in and run some tests on my lungs and check my vitals.
"Good news, your lungs are fine. But you've been through a lot, so you should get some rest. We'll tell you when your partner's in stable condition." a nurse told me.
"Okay, thank you." I replied.
When the nurses leave, I lay back and pull my blanket up to my shoulders.
"Hey, Steve, if Bucky's doctor comes in here while I'm still asleep, can you wake me up?" I asked.
"Sure, Sam." Steve nodded.
I slept for about an hour before Steve woke me up. The doctor that was taking care of Bucky come into my room.
"How is he, is he okay?" I frantically ask.
"He's stable, don't worry. I set his ribs, stopped the internal bleeding, and stitched the gash on his head. But...there was nothing I could do for the arm that was crushed...I had to amputate it." the doctor explained.
"W-what?! Oh god!" I gasped.
This is all my fault! Bucky only has one arm because of me. I quickly make my way to Bucky's hospital room and cry again when I see nothing but a shoulder on his left side. I sit next to his bed and hold the only hand he has now.
"I'm so sorry, baby. I'm so so sorry." I cried holding his hand to my face.
It's late at night when Bucky finally woke up. I tried my best to keep him from freaking out when he saw that his left arm was gone.
"This my fault, I'm so sorry." I said hugging Bucky.
"Sammy, none of this is your fault, accidents happen. And I'll be fine, I'll adjust...and you'll be there by my side the whole time." Bucky replied.
"Yes! Yes, of course I'll be by your side. I'll be by your side forever, I love you." I cried into Bucky's shoulder.
"I love you too, Sammy." Bucky said kissing my cheek.
When Bucky was discharged from the hospital, I have him stay with me in my apartment while he was on medical leave from work. During that time I helped him adjust to life with one arm. Soon this became a permanent situation and he moved in with me. This wasn't exactly the way I wanted us to come to the decision of us living together, but I'm glad he's here and that we can be there for each other.
