Dads In Love Pt.1

A/N: Single dads AU. Includes Romanogers.

Last year, Bucky's wife, now ex-wife, left him and their daughter, Stevie. Even though it hurt like h*ll, he kinda saw it coming. His ex wasn't exactly wife or mother of the year. She never spent any time with her husband or daughter, and she was very negligent, sometimes leaving Stevie home alone for hours. Bucky had to change around his work schedule so that he could be home when Stevie wasn't in school. A month after the divorce, Bucky found out that his ex had also been cheating on him.

"I say good riddance to the b**ch." Natasha said unpacking a box.

Bucky and Stevie recently moved closer to where Bucky's best friend, Steve, lived so that he could be around family members who actually cared about him and his daughter. Natasha was Bucky's other friend and Steve's wife.

"Honey, language, the kids are in the next room." Steve scolded.

"Oh, come on, James is twelve years old, he's probably heard worse at school." Natasha replied.

James is Steve and Natasha's son. He was currently helping Stevie, who is eight, set up her new bedroom. When the unpacking was done the five of them had dinner together.

"So, Stevie, are you excited to go to your new school on Monday?" Steve asked her.

"I'm not sure...what if I don't make any friends?" Stevie mumbled timidly.

"You'll make friends, I know it, you're a kind and sweet little girl." Bucky told her.

"I heard the people who moved in across the street has a little girl your age, so maybe you can try being friends with her since she'll also be the new kid like you." Natasha said.

"Can we meet them tomorrow, Daddy?" Stevie asked.

"Sure, sweetie." Bucky agreed.

After dinner, Steve and his family leaves then Bucky gets Stevie ready for bed and tucks her in.

"Daddy, sing me a lullaby." Stevie said hugging a raccoon stuffed animal.

"Which one?" Bucky asked, even though he pretty much already knew the answer.

"You know which one." Stevie giggled.

Bucky chuckles then sits on the edge of his daughter's bed and pets her head.

"Why are there so many
Songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions
But only illusions
And rainbows have nothing to hide
So we've been told and some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong, wait and see.

Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers, and me.

Have you been half asleep
And have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name
Is this the sweet sound
That calls the young sailors?
The voice might be one in the same
I've heard it to many times to ignore it
It's something that I'm supposed to be

Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers, and me
Da-da-da-dee-da-da dum
Da-da-da-da-dee-da-da-doo" Bucky sang until his daughter fell asleep.

He bends down a kisses the top of her head. Next, he goes into the living room and watches some TV with the volume low, so he doesn't wake up Stevie. Lately, Natasha has been trying to set Bucky up on dates, but he keeps turning down her offers. He wasn't sure if he could trust someone with his heart again, also he felt like being Stevie's father was more important than being someone's boyfriend.

"Besides...I'm pretty sure no one would want me, anyway." Bucky mumbled to himself.

Bucky always had bad self-esteem issues, and they became worse after his ex left him. He puts on a brave face in front of his daughter, because he doesn't want her to worry. But when Stevie's not around...he just can't seem to find a reason to smile. The next day around lunchtime, Stevie helps her dad make some cookies to bring over to the new neighbors...who were new to the neighborhood like them.

"I hope they're nice." Stevie said, holding her father's hand as they walked across the street.

"Me too." Bucky replied.

Earlier that morning...

The alarm rings loudly, waking Sam up. He sleepily slaps his hand on the alarm, silencing the loud noise. It was the second morning in his new home with his eight-year-old daughter, Riley. They moved from Louisiana because of Sam's job. At first, Riley was not so happy about moving away from her Aunt Sarah and cousins...well, she still wasn't exactly thrilled. Though, Sam assures her that she'll make some new friends and will love living here.

"Come on, Ri, up and at 'em." Sam said coming into his daughter's room and flipping on the light.

"*YAWN* Okay, Papa." Riley said waking up and rubbing her eyes.

They go through their Saturday morning routine, eating pancakes and watching Scooby-Doo. Then they get dressed and finish up the last of the unpacking. It was lunchtime when they finished with the last box.

"What do you want for lunch?" Sam asked Riley.

"Hmmm....pizza!" Riley replied.

"Okay, on it." Sam said grabbing his phone.

He was searching up local pizza places when his doorbell rang. Sam stands up from the couch and walks over to the front door. And on the other side was...the single most beautiful man he has ever seen! Beautiful eyes, beautiful hair, beautiful body...this man was the entire package and just Sam's type.
