Alpine The Matchmaker Pt.4
A/N: WARNING: Brief mention of suicide(don't worry, it's not Bucky).
Sitting in Dr. Lucas' office, Bucky tells his therapist all about what happened between him and Sam.
"So how did Sam kissing you make you feel?" Quinn asked.
"Excited....happy...but also terrified." Bucky answered wrapping his arms around himself.
"And why were you terrified?" Quinn questioned.
"Because it felt good...and if it felt good that means that I'm not straight. And growing up I was always told that being that way was a bad thing. H*ll if you weren't straight, you were either arrested, beaten, or killed. And...for a man like Sam, it would've been so much worse; he would've seen the barrel of a gun before he would've seen the inside of a jail cell. I just don't want anything bad to happen to us...also, it's hard not to feel ashamed at myself for being bisexual. I mean, I know it's more accepted now to love who you want to love, but I still can't help but feel like I'm doing something wrong." Bucky explained tearing up.
Quinn hands Bucky a packet of tissues so he could wipe his face.
"Look, James, I understand what it's like to struggle to come to terms with your sexuality. I've had issues with it myself before coming out as asexual; I also struggled with my gender identity before realizing I was non-binary. While today's times are better for people like us, we still face adversity from time to time, some more than others." Quinn told Bucky.
"Have you faced any bigotry?" Bucky asked Quinn.
"Well, if I had a nickel for every time I was misgendered, I wouldn't need this job." Quinn replied.
"So...how do you...overcome that?" Bucky asked.
"You just gotta remember that there's nothing wrong with being who you are. And that it's the bigoted one who should be ashamed of themselves for having hate in their heart for something they could easily understand if they just took the time to understand it." Quinn answered.
"Now, what else are you afraid of about beginning a romantic relationship with Sam?" they asked.
Bucky hesitates a little, chewing on his bottom lip.
"I guess I feel like I don't deserve to be loved...because of the horrible things I've done while under HYDRA's control." Bucky said.
"Everyone deserves to be loved, James. I suggest you further discuss your feelings about Sam with Sam. Trust me, you'll feel relieved once you've properly communicated your feelings." Quinn said as they typed the session's notes into their laptop.
Then their phone starts to ring. They excuse themself before answering the phone.
"Hello?" Quinn said to the person on the other end of the line.
"....w-what? Are...are you serious? A-are you sure this isn't some sort of mistake?...it's not? Oh, god, this is terrible...just awful. Let the family know they have my condolences." they said obviously having a distressing conversation on the phone.
The therapist hangs up their phone, then groans, burying their face on their hands.
"Is...something wrong, Dr. Lucas?" Bucky asked concerned.
"....Another one of my patients, a nineteen-year-old girl, she...took her own life last night." Quinn replied, face still buried in their hands.
"D*mn." Bucky sighed sadly.
Taking a deep breath, Quinn lifts their head then runs a hand through their hair.
"I'd hate to do this, James, but I'm gonna have to cut this session short today." Quinn told him.
"Of course, I completely understand." Bucky assured his therapist.
Bucky thanks Quinn for the session then heads towards the door.
"James?" Quinn said, causing Bucky to pause in the doorway.
"Hm?" Bucky replied turning toward Quinn.
"Please, take care of yourself...please." Quinn requested.
"I will, Dr. Lucas." Bucky promised.
While walking home, Bucky's mind was rampant with thoughts of that poor girl and her family. Then, suddenly, Bucky's phone begins to ring and he answers it without looking at the caller ID.
"Hello?" Bucky said to whoever called him.
"Hey, Buck, I know it's been a bit since we talked, and I know this probably shouldn't be the first thing I ask of you after not talking for a while, but I'm going on a mission and I could use your help." Sam said.
"Okay, I'll just have to get ready and find someone to look after Alpine, and I'll be on my way." Bucky replied.
After gathering all this gear, Bucky has his neighbor cat-sit for him while he's on the mission with Sam. Maybe it will be a good opportunity to talk things out with Sam, hopefully he's not still upset that Bucky pushed him away after kissing him. When Bucky arrives at the location Sam gave him, he's given the rundown of the mission.
"So there's this guy called Scorpio and he's the leader of a gang called the Zodiac? And our mission is to stop them from obtaining something called the Zodiac Key? Is that correct?" Bucky asked, sitting across from Sam on the plane.
"Yep, that's the jist of it." Sam nodded.
"So, what does this Zodiac Key thing do?" Bucky asked his friend.
"I'm not exactly sure, not much is known about it. But, so far, what we do know is that it can be used as a pretty hefty power source. So, in the wrong hands it can be very dangerous." Sam explained.
"Do we know the identity of this Scorpio guy?" Bucky asked.
"Nope. Not a clue." Sam answered.
The rest of the trip was pretty silent, Bucky didn't think it was the best time to bring up the whole "Sam kissing him and then him pushing Sam away" thing. At least not until after the mission was over with. Meanwhile, back at Bucky's neighbor's apartment, Alpine sits and thinks of other plans to get Bucky and Sam together. All while the neighbor's six-year-old son tries to get the kitty to play with him. Clearly, Alpine was not interested and ignored the child.
